I did deceive her, but my intentions were good, and I tried to explain that. If she's still holding a grudge, there's nothing more I can do.

So, I left it at that.

If she's reasonable, she'll come to understand. Even though Susie had become distant, I still called Mack after leaving.

It's not that I'm meddling; it's just that she matters to Ernest, and, well, you know what they say about loving everything that comes with the person you love.

Besides, Susie isn't malicious; she's just upset because she feels betrayed.

"Hey, sis," Mack didn't answer the phone; instead, his voice came from behind me.

I put away my phone and looked at him. I didn't need to ask why he was here.

He came to see Susie.

If Susie was mad at me, she'd be even more upset with Mack.

"Are you here for Susie, or for the heart beating inside her?" I asked bluntly, almost cruelly.

Mack didn't respond, and I laughed mockingly, "Seems like you don't have an answer."

"Sis, I'm really struggling," Mack confessed, clearly distressed, suggesting he hadn't been doing well these past few days.

The struggle was his to bear; I couldn't help with that, but I still offered him some advice, "If you want to get out of this turmoil, you need to figure out what you truly want."

I knew it was easier said than done. If he could have figured it out, he wouldn't be in this predicament, "Mack, remember what we talked about? You leaving her? Now that things have escalated, take this chance to step back and allow yourself time to replace your answer." "I know, but I'm scared," Mack showed a vulnerability that's rare in men.

"Scared of what?"

Mack bit his lip, "Did she tell you? She's thinking about getting a heart transplant."

Now I understood Mack's fear. He was literally on edge because of it.

The guy was sincere, taking Susie's words, likely said in anger, to heart.

But it also showed how much he

zet

cared about the heart within her. At that moment, I felt like he had kis answer, "She didn't say that. She's just trying to scare you."

Mack still looked worried, so I added, "Getting a new heart isn't that easy, you know that."

He lowered his head, "But she could harm the heart, like..."

"Mack," I interrupted him, "you don't love Susie; you're just obsessed with the heart inside her."

My tone was harsh, and Mack froze, looking at me with a bewildered Sion, like someone who had

his way.

"You need to stop bothering Susie, even if she agrees, I won't allow it," I warned him.

Sometimes, an outsider sees things more clearly. Since he was lost, I felt it was my duty to guide him.

"Leave now, and don't come back

here, not here and not at the

university. If I replace out you've

bothered her again, I won't forgive you left him with those words and walked away.

At the hospital.

Just as Ernest had predicted, Dustin showed up. He didn't say a word; he just stared at Ernest.

Ernest was equally calm, allowing him to look, initiating a silent standoff between them.

"You're not Phipps; you're Ernest," Dustin finally broke the silence.

"Does it really matter to Mr. Wagner who I am?" Ernest replied coolly.
