When Ernest called me, I had just arrived at the hospital.

"Where are you?" he asked.

I glanced at the time; it had been just three hours since we parted. "Missing me already?"

This kind of open and cheesy talk came naturally with Ernest, because he adored me and loved hearing it. But back when I was with Conrad, I never spoke so openly. Conrad's aloof demeanor always put a distance between us. There's a saying that without comparison, you can't feel the difference, and it was this comparison that showed me what true love really looked like.

"Yeah, missing you," Ernest didn't hold back his feelings.

"Ten minutes," I chuckled, "Mr. Collins will see me in ten minutes."

"You're at the hospital?" he guessed correctly.

Just as I was about to confirm, he added, "Dustin swung by earlier. He figured out who I am and knows I've gathered evidence. Now, he's pressuring me to hand it over."

I instantly understood what Ernest meant; it was a warning. "He's definitely thought of looking for me since I'm hiding you."

"Yes, so be careful," Ernest's voice was gravely serious.

My nerves tightened, "Got it."

The evidence Ernest had collected must be against Dustin and whoever was behind him. This showdown was bound to be their final confrontation.

"Be careful yourself," Ernest paused, "I hate that you got dragged into this."

He had initially kept me at arm's length to avoid involving me, but here we were.

"But they might not be able to drag me down, trust me, Ernest," I reassured him. When Ernest had faked his death, I had resolved to avenge him. I was no longer just a girl basking in adoration. "Yeah, come back soon," Ernest instructed me.

After hanging up, I sat in my car, zoning out for a moment before stepping out. As I was about to take the elevator, I ran straight into

Dustin or more accurately he was

waiting for me.

I had kept up appearances with him before, but ever since he tried to force himself on me, I dropped all pretense.

"Felicia, can we talk?" Dustin approached me.

I kept my tone distant, "Talk about what?"

"Phipps... No, I guess it's Ernest now. His car accident wasn't my doing."

If not him, then who else?

"Someone used me to test him," Dustin hinted.

But who would use him?

It struck me instantly - Allen.

I couldn't help but laugh mockingly, "So, it's a dog-eat-dog world."

My metaphor was unkind, and Dustin's expression turned sour, "Felicia, I was wrong last time, I..."

I didn't let him explain further, cutting him off, "I don't want to revisit that."

He paused, then after a few seconds of silence, "Ernest is in a dangerous spot now. During his time 'dead, he

collected some stuff. He needs to ollected

come forward with it to save

himself."

It was just as Ernest had predicted. I feigned ignorance, "So, you want me to persuade him to hand it over?"

He looked at me intently, "Felicia, I

know you understand what I'm

saying If he's keeping the stuff

you, for his safety, it's best if you

it to me."

"Kept with me? Did Ernest tell you that?" I continued to play along.
