Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 119
Nora's
POV
I paced up and down the house, anxiously waiting for Maddison to return home after he angrily left earlier in the day. It was already midnight, and I grew increasingly worried as he hadn't come back yet. "It's 1:18 am," I mumbled as I checked the time, my pacing becoming more frantic. What was keeping him out so late at night?
I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It rang for a few seconds, but he didn't answer. "Why won't you pick up my call, Maddison?" I blurted out, frustration building up inside me. "Maybe I should try a mind link?" I closed my eyes and attempted to connect with him, but he blocked me. I tried again and again, but he continued to block me, making it impossible to reach him, no matter how hard I tried.
"You shouldn't have said those words to him. They were too harsh." Lolita mumbled calmly to me, sensing my tense mood and probably wanting to avoid worsening it.
I ran my fingers through my hair and sat on the bed. "I was... I was just surprised. I was shocked that he could keep such a big secret from me when he calls me his wife. I... I... I never meant to be so harsh," I replied, hanging my head. "I didn't mean anything I said. I just hope he will come back soon, so we can sort things out... This is not what I want at all," I added, taking a deep breath with my head still lowered.
Lost in self-pity, the door opened, and Maddison walked in. "Maddison!" I called out, instantly standing up from the bed and rushing over to him. "Where have you been? I couldn't sleep waiting for you. You could have called me to let me know you would come home late. How are you?" I bombarded him with questions, trying to make him talk to me, as I opened my arms, wanting to hug him. However, he pushed me aside and walked past me.
"Maddi..." I was about to call his name again when my sensitive nose caught the smell of alcohol emanating from him. "He's drunk?" I mumbled to myself, as if confirming what I already knew. "Why are you being so harsh, Maddison? Don't you think you're taking this too far?" I asked, hoping he would reply, but to no avail.
I moved closer to him and stood in front of him again. "We need to talk, Maddison. You have to talk to me. We can't continue like this without resolving this issue," I pleaded, but he only stared at me without uttering a word. "Are you drunk? Did you go drinking after you left me today? Did you get yourself drunk because you didn't want to face me?" I asked, my voice sounding gentle even though I was battling many emotions, trying to make him realize I was sorry.
"Maddison..." I called again, realizing he wasn't going to respond. I was about to approach him when he stretched his hand forward, signaling for me to stop, and took a step back.
"Can you just stop? I'm not in the right frame of mind to discuss anything with you right now, can't you see that? Can you give me some space, please?" he muttered, looking straight into my eyes with a hidden pain. "I don't want to do anything that I'll regret when I sober up in the morning. So, can you just let me be for now?" he added, and I sighed, doing my best not to cry.
With that, he pushed me aside and walked past me again. I watched him climb the stairs without looking back, and my knees grew weak, causing me to slump to the ground.
"Maddison.!" I called gently as I watched him disappear completely from my sight, tears streaming down my cheeks. I wiped the tears away, but more kept flowing, and before I knew it, I held my chest and started sobbing uncontrollably, disregarding everything else. The pain coursing through me was too much to bear, and crying felt like the only way to release some of it and be able to breathe again. After a few minutes, had passed, I stood up and wiped my face. "I shouldn't be crying like this," I said to myself and followed him.
I reached our room and searched around, but he was nowhere to be found. "Where is he? Where did he go again?" I asked myself as I continued searching. I left our room and started looking for him, but still couldn't replace him. "Where is he?" I asked once more, and that's when I heard a sound coming from the guest room.
I rushed toward the guest room and tried to open the door, but it was locked. "Did I hear wrong? Is he not here?" I asked myself, but Lolita replied, "He's in there."
"Maddison? Can you open the door and let's talk, please? We can sort out this whole thing. Why are you doing this?" I asked, my voice filled with pain, but all I received was total silence... Maddison wasn't replying to me.
I sighed and leaned on the door. "What do I do?" I asked my wolf. "You might need to leave him for tonight and postpone everything else until tomorrow. I don't think tonight is the right time for any discussion," Lolita advised me, and my head dropped. "You can talk to him tomorrow. I'm sure he will be more understanding then. Can you do that?" Lolita asked, and I sighed. "Okay, I will do that then," I reluctantly replied, standing up and leaving the door, but not without glancing at it with each step I took away. I entered the room and forced myself to sleep. The night felt longer than usual as my mind raced. I couldn't wait for morning to come so I could talk to him and resolve all this misunderstanding.
Very early the next morning, I woke up, quickly took a bath, put on a simple long gown, and rushed out of the room. I arrived at the guest room with a smile on my face and knocked, but there was no response. I frowned and opened the door, only to replace that no one was there. "Where is he?" I asked myself as I left the guest room and walked down the stairs.
Fortunately, I saw one of the maids cleaning the seats and approached her. "Don't worry about greetings," I said as soon as I saw her attempting to bow. "Do you know where Lord Maddison is?" I asked the maid, and she nodded.
"Yes, he's in his office. He left very early, Ma'am," the maid replied, and I nodded before rushing toward the office, hoping desperately to replace him there.
Upon reaching the office, I knocked on the door, but there was no response. "We're getting used to this no-response attitude lately," I said sadly. "Maddison, are you in there? Can I come in?" I asked, but still, there was no response, and I let out a deep breath. "I'm coming in then," I announced, opening the door and entering.
Entering the room, I saw Madison in his seat, his eyes fixed on the files he was holding. He concentrated so hard that he paid me no attention, even after I opened the door and entered. He didn't even raise his head to look at me, sparing me no glance as if I meant nothing to him.
My heart sank, but I shook my head and moved closer to him. "Dear, good morning," I greeted, but there was no response. "I tried speaking with you yesterday, but you shunned me and locked yourself in. Do you know how worried I was? You could have at least said something nice so I could sleep well," I tried joking with him, hoping he would laugh, but it was futile once again.
Seeing him act mute when I was doing my best to settle the issue between us was already getting on my nerves, but I remained calm. "Regarding what I said yesterday, I understand why you're so angry, but can you at least give me a chance to explain myself? I didn't mean what I said yesterday, and as for Leo, I stopped loving him the moment I..." I was interrupted by his sudden groan as he looked at me.
"I don't want to hear it! I'm tired, Nora! I'm tired of all this," he yelled at me, and my heart sank.
"Tired? Do you mean what you said about divorce yesterday?" I asked, my heart beating fast against my chest, desperately hoping he would say no. But he looked straight into my eyes, and without hesitation, he replied, "Yes, I'm letting you go, Nora."
