Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 125
Nora's POV
I yawned softly as I searched the bed with my hand, trying to replace Maddison, who would always be in front of me, but he was nowhere to be found. I searched and searched, but I still could not replace him. I frowned a little and opened my eyes, only to see empty space in front of me, leaving me confused. Where is Maddison?
Thinking about it, I realized that I had left our shared bedroom and was now in Maxwell's house. It saddened me, and a single tear trickled down my face, but I quickly wiped it away and stood up. "Being weak is a fast way to failure," I remembered the saying, and I sighed. I wouldn't be weak; I would stay strong.
I got up from my bed, took a bath, and put on simple gown before making my way down the stairs, where I saw Maxwell setting food on the dining table. "You're awake," he said the moment he saw me walking down the steps, and I nodded. "I'm done cooking. You should come and eat something," he added. I walked over to him and stood in front of him. "Did Maddison call you to ask about me?" I asked him, and he smiled. "He called. He asked if you were here, and I said yes," he replied, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Knowing that he inquired about me was a good thing, and I was glad. "And? Did he mention coming to pick me up?" I asked expectantly, but the expression on Maxwell's face gave me a heartbreaking reply, causing me to sigh. "He asked about you and if you were fine. He didn't mention coming to pick you up, but he might be planning to do so," he tried to comfort me, but it wasn't working. I felt extremely bad. Being away from him made me realize how unfair I had been to him, and I wanted to make amends, but I was confused about how to proceed.
I walked to one of the dining seats and sat down. "What should I do?" I asked Maxwell, who was staring at me with a pained expression, and I lowered my head again. I pondered deeply for a while before standing up and turning to leave. "I will be back," I said without waiting or turning to see Maxwell. Maxwell rushed after me and stood in front of me. "Where are you going, Nora?" he asked me, and I paused. "I'm going to meet Maddison," I simply replied, and Maxwell's eyes widened. He shook his head. "You shouldn't act rashly, Nora. He might be planning to come pick you up later in the day. Why don't we wait for him first?" he asked me, genuine worry etched on his face. It seemed he thought I was planning something that would get me into trouble, which, for some reason, amused
me.
I shook my head and smiled a little. "I'm not going to act rashly, but I want to bring my husband back to me. This time, I'm going to win Maddison back. He's always been the one trying to win my heart, but now, I'm going to be the one to win his heart. I will try my best to make him forgive me and love me again," I said to Maxwell while also making an inward promise to do whatever it takes to win him over again.
Maxwell nodded and sighed. "If that's what you want, I wish you luck then," he said, and I smiled before leaving the house. I hailed a cab, and in no time, I arrived in front of Maddison's mansion. I stared at the mansion for a few minutes before making up my mind and entering. "Madam! Welcome, ma'am," many greetings and joyous welcoming sounds resounded in my ears as soon as I entered the building, warming my heart. The sincere love of the workers filled me with warmth and made me realize that my stay in the house hadn't been in vain, increasing my confidence once again. I waved at all of them and smiled back. "Where is My husband?" I asked.
"He's in his study, ma'am," one of the guards said to me, and I nodded. I turned around and went to the study to replace him. I hesitated for a moment before opening the study. Different thoughts ran through my mind, wondering how he would react to seeing me after I left home without letting him know. Would he be angry with me, or would he miss me? I was curious to know. I pressed my hand against my racing heart and closed my eyes, steadying my breathing before entering. I had missed him so much that it felt like years since I last saw him, even though it had only been a day.
"Who's there?" he asked while I was still preparing myself to enter, and my heart started racing again, but I knew I had to enter. I opened the door and stepped inside. "Maddison," I called with a small smile on my face, expecting him to be surprised to see me, but he only glanced at me and lowered his face, continuing to read the files he was holding. I closed my eyes as my heart sank. I felt bad.
"Won't you at least acknowledge my presence? You haven't seen me since yesterday, have you?" I asked, my voice filled with emotions, but he refused to raise his head or say anything, continuing to focus on his work. I sighed and moved closer to him. "Maddison?" I called, and for the second time since I entered the study, he raised his head and looked at me. "What? Are you here to sign the divorce papers you didn't sign yesterday? You forgot to sign them, right?" he asked, coldly.
Heck! If there was another word to describe how shocked I was, I would have used it. I was so shocked that I couldn't replace my words for a while, and I could only stare at him like a fool. How could he... How could he be so cold to me, even in a situation like this? I never expected him to be this harsh toward me. I never thought a day like this would come between us, and it saddened me. "I... I will sign the divorce papers, but before I do that, can I ask you a question? If you can honestly reply, then I will sign them and leave your life forever. I will go far away from you and never return, but only if you can answer me sincerely," I said, noticing his hand shake for a second, but he did not look up or say anything. "I just want to ask if you still love me. If you no longer love me, please let me know, and I will leave your side. Do you still love me?" I asked, hoping for a response, but to my surprise, he continued working without stopping. "Do you love me or not?" I asked again, but he remained silent, and I smiled. "Seeing that you can't reply, I believe that you still love me, and I'm going to do everything to win your heart again. This time, I'll be the one to chase after you, Maddison," I said before leaving his office.
I walked into our room and entered. I had a lot on my mind. I kept saying I would win him back, but the truth was that I had no idea how. It was easy to see him chasing after me then, but chasing after him was hard, and I had no idea where to start from. I paced aimlessly in my room, thinking of ways to win him over, and a few moments later, something came to mind. "Yes!" I cheered before leaving the room and walking down the stairs. I called on one of the maids, "Has Your lord eaten anything?" I asked the maid, who shook her head. "No, ma'am. My lord hasn't eaten anything today. We asked what he was going to eat, but he said he had no appetite and entered his study." The maid explained, and I nodded.
I walked over to the kitchen where I made his food myself and carried it to his study. "For you," I said with a big smile on my face. Cooking was tedious, but it was fun to cook for my man, and it made me excited.
I placed the food on the table inside his study. "I heard you haven't eaten anything, so I prepared this myself. I hope you will at least consider the effort I went through and eat it. I know you're angry with me, but please don't be angry with my food." I said, but he just continued opening the files without sparing me a glance. I sighed and walked toward the door. "I will come back to collect the empty plates," I said and left the room.
I returned to our room, where I decided to write for a while to clear my head, and a few minutes later, I went back to his study to retrieve the plates. However, upon reaching the study, I was heartbroken as I saw the food on the ground with the plates broken, scattered all over the floor.
