Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 170
Alpha Leo's POV
I stood by the door, after knocking for a few minutes, waiting for someone to attend to me. I was just about to give up and leave when the door opened and a lady came out. "I'm sorry for keeping you here for so long, Alpha Leo. I was held up doing something inside; please forgive me," the lady said, and I smiled. "It's nothing. Is this where Ava lives?" I asked, as that was my main concern. I already knew she wasn't opening the door because she was doing something, so I needed not to hear her explanation but to know if I had come to the right address instead. The lady smiled. "Everywhere is Ava's place. She lives everywhere, but this is her house," she said, and I smiled. I was relieved to know that I had come to the right place. "Can I come in then? I want to see Ava," I said to her, and she paved the way for me. "Sure. I can't continue to keep a whole Alpha by the door." She seemed to be a playful person, but what really impressed me about her was her honesty. She looked honest and loyal. I entered the house and was led to a couch where I sat, and a minute later, I saw Ava walking down the stairs. She walked over to me and stood in front of me. "Why are you here?" She questioned, and I sighed. I knew she was still angry, so I quickly stood up. "Please don't teleport away. There is something I need to say to you." I pleaded, and she sneered. "Who said I was going to do that? This is my house, remember?" She asked, and I sighed.
"I will excuse you guys now," the lady said and left. "Okay, can you say whatever you came here to say now?" She asked, and I sucked in a deep breath. "It's not what you think. What you saw Nora and I did wasn't what you think, and I can explain." I hated to be in this situation. The kind of situation where I have to start explaining myself, I hated it so much, but I had no choice. "What do you mean? It wasn't what I think it was. Like, were you two shooting a drama, or was there a camera there? Was there an invisible camera somewhere around there that I didn't notice?" She asked, and my eyes twitched. "What happened wasn't real. It was just a fling. At that moment, we were both sad and out of our minds. It had no meaning attached, and we are not that connected to each other. Please, believe me." I said to her, but she only rolled her eyes and walked to a seat where she sat down and crossed her legs. "Do you think I will stay with you after all this? I don't think we can work, Alpha Leo. You still love Nora, and you can't get over her. So, why should I stay with you when I know you can never love me?" She questioned, and I was speechless.
I walked toward her and sat beside her. I stretched my hand to hold hers, but she removed her hand from mine and looked away. "That's not possible, Ava. You know it's not possible for me to love Nora because she is my cousin's mate. Gone are those days when I could love her, but not anymore because she is taken." I explained to her, and she turned to look at me. "You are the one I want to be with now. You are the only one for me, and the only person I can love is you." I confessed, and she started crying. She covered her face and cried for a while before she wiped it and stared at me again without saying a word. "Why don't we try to work this out? We are mates; let's work on our bond, get to know each other more, and love each other like we are supposed to. What do you think?" I asked, and she was quiet for a while. She seemed to be thinking about what I said but refused to look away from me.
She later sighed, "I accept." She said, and my eyes lit up. "But, on one condition." She added, and my heart skipped a beat. What condition again? Can't we just make up and forget about everything else? I had a premonition that her condition wouldn't be favorable, and I wished I could stop her from saying it. "What do you want?" I asked. "I want you to stop seeing Nora. I don't want you to have anything to do with her again, and then, we can be together." She said to me, and my eyes widened. I already knew her request would be ridiculous, but I wasn't expecting it to be so ridiculous that I felt like facepalming. "How is that possible?" I asked, and I saw her expression change, but I still had to talk. "You mean I should leave Nora and never see her again when she is my friend? Not only is she my friend, but she is like family too because she is my cousin's wife. How is it possible to stay away from her?" I asked, and she stood up.
She took a few steps away from me and turned to look at me. "You have to do that or stay away from me forever." She said and walked away. I watched her climbing the stairs with confusion on my face. I didn't know what to do. I stood up, ran my fingers through my hair, and left her house. I entered my car, started the engine, and drove out of the house. I was on my way back to my apartment when I remembered that Nora tried to connect with me sometime ago, but I wasn't in the right mind then, so I rejected her. I stopped the car and tried to make a mind link with her, hoping she wouldn't be angry and would talk with me. Fortunately, she accepted the mind link on time, and a smile appeared on my face. "Nora, I'm sorry I blocked you then. I was doing something." I said to her. "It's okay. How about you and Ava? Have you been able to settle the matter?" She asked me, and my smile died down. I sighed and smacked my lips. "Let's not talk about her. It's complicated." I said to her, and she was quiet for a while. "So, how about you? Have you settled with Maddison?" I asked her, trying to bring up a conversation. It wasn't like I expected them to have settled because I knew how stubborn the two were, so I wasn't expecting much from them.
"Hmm..." Nora sighed. "Are you okay? What's going on?" I asked worriedly. "Not with me but with Maddison." She said, and I frowned. "What happened to him? Is he asking about divorce again?" I questioned with a raised brow. No, he is in a big mess. He was in distress at the moment," she explained, confusing me. How could someone as powerful as Madison be in such a deep mess? Who could have done anything to him? "What's going on? How is he in a deep mess?" I asked her, curiosity taking the best of me. "He's being blackmailed. You know Laura, right? She invited him to her birthday party and drugged him. She made him have sex with her and took pictures, so she has been blackmailing him with that and telling him that she will upload the pictures everywhere for everyone to see," she explained, and I gasped. I quickly covered my mouth and frowned. Laura? She and Maddison had been close friends since they were young and they liked each other a lot. So, what was going on?
"Why would Laura do that to him? They were close. Very close, considering they've known each other for so many years already," I said. "Yeah. Do you know about an accident that Maddison had a few years ago with Laura?" She asked, and I nodded. Of course, I did. "It was a long time ago though. Who's bringing that up again?" I asked, and Nora sighed again. "Apparently, Laura damaged her womb during the accident, and she is back to take revenge on Maddison.
She's accusing him of being the one that caused the accident," she explained, and my lips curved up into a disappointed frown. How could Laura be so silly and petty? I let out a deep breath and started my car again. "So, how is Maddison doing now?" I asked. "He has been looking for solutions. He tried reaching out to her, tracking her down, or whatever, but she already threatened him that the pictures are with someone else and they would upload them if he tried anything. He is frustrated and disturbed," she explained, making me sigh again. "Okay, don't worry, I will settle this. I will clean up the whole mess," I promised. She appreciated me, and I could feel the excitement in her voice before I ended the mind link and concentrated on my driving.
I made a mind link to Laura, and she accepted immediately. "Laura, where are you?" I asked, skipping pleasantries. "I'm somewhere. Why?" She asked, and I frowned. "I want to see you. Can we meet?" I questioned. "Why should I do that? I already know why you want to see me, and I know what you and Lord Maddison can do, but I'm not scared of any of you. If you try to touch me, I will tell those that have the pictures and videos to upload them immediately," she threatened, and I smirked. "I don't intend to touch you or do anything with you. Let's just meet and talk. Are you still in San Francisco?" I questioned. "Yes, I am. What about you?" She asked. "I'm in San Francisco too, but I will be leaving for California tomorrow. Can we meet today?" I asked her, as today was the only day I could see her. I've been away from California for too long, and I had to return, but I wanted to see her first.
"I'm in the nearest coffee shop to the hospital where Lord Maddison's son was admitted. Can you come and meet me there?" She asked, and with that, I ended the mind link, changed my direction, and drove back to where she was. Fortunately, I saw her drinking coffee at the center of the shop, and I walked toward her. I sat in front of her, and she bowed a little without standing up. "What do you want, Laura? Is it money? You know I can give you, Maddison can do that too. All you need to do is name a price, and the money will be yours to spend," I said to her, but she only rolled her eyes. "It would be nice if money could bring back my damaged womb and give me a child, don't you think?" She asked, and I sighed. "I understand how you feel more than anyone, Laura. I once had a daughter too, and I lost her. I still remember the pain I went through then and how disrupted my life was after her death because I felt like it was my fault even though I knew it wasn't. I know you must be feeling bad that you can't give birth, but you don't have to do this because there is still a chance for you," I said to her, and her eyes twitched as she looked at me.
"Yes, why don't you opt for surrogacy? Not having a womb doesn't mean you can't have a child when there are surrogate mothers available. You can do a Gestational surrogacy. I will pay the bills, I promise," I said to her, and she fell into deep thought for a while before nodding her head. "Okay, I will do it, but on one condition."
Here we go again. "What condition?" I asked. "Lord Madison must be the male donor for the surrogacy. I want to have his child," she said, and my eyes widened. This is ridiculous.
