Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 5
Nora's
POV
I have been sitting in front of my worktable, contemplating whether I should go ahead with rejecting the offer. I couldn't see myself working in Alpha Leo's mansion when he would obviously never accept me. "Think about it," Lolita spoke, "Perhaps the moon goddess is giving you a chance to know him." She tried to convince me to accept the job offer, but I knew it would only worsen things for me, and besides, he would send me away if he got to know that I was working in the mansion. With a deep sigh, I picked up my phone and dialed Maxwell's number. It rang a few times before it was picked. "Hey, Nora." He spoke in a welcoming tone. "How are you?" He asked, his voice filled with concern. "I'm hanging in there," I said with a sigh and stood up. "Remember, I applied for a position at the state library?" I said and got a hum from him, "It was rejected but they gave me another offer." I explained as I walked around. "Luciano mansion. They want me to be a library keeper, the same mansion where alpha Leo, my supposed mate, lives." I sighed heavily and sat on the bed.
"Alpha Leo is your mate?" He asked, and I responded with a sigh.
"Woah!" He responded and remained silent for a moment before speaking, "So are you accepting the offer?" He asked, "I don't know." I responded as pictures of alpha Leo played in my head. I could still remember the disgust on his face when he realized I was his mate. Such memory is ever fresh in my head.
"I don't think I can," I murmured, hurt.
"Why can't you?" Maxwell questioned, "Don't you think all this is happening for a reason?" He asked, "The moon goddess has a plan for you, and one is for you to work in that mansion. Perhaps he would learn to accept you for who you are." He said while I sighed and lay on the bed on my back.
"Think about it, Nora. This is the only chance you have to see him again and talk things out with him," He urged, causing a heavy sigh to leave my lips. "Fine! I'll take the job offer, but I'm certain he would send me away once he sees me," I grumbled. "Well, things might come out differently," Maxwell encouraged.
"I'll accept the offer. Hopefully, I won't regret it." "You won't." He assured me as I ended the call.
After ending the call, I walked to my work desk. I switched on my laptop and emailed them, informing them I had accepted the offer.
"I hope we don't regret this," My wolf murmured weakly. "How are you doing?" I asked, but didn't get a response from her. Obviously, she didn't want to talk about it. "We will be fine," I told her with a heavy sigh.
This wasn't the first time I was going through such heartbreak, but for my wolf, it was all new to her, and I knew she was doing her best to be strong for me.
I left my room and took the stairs to the dining table, where I met everyone already seated, having breakfast. "Here comes the princess," Vera mocked as I took the seat beside her. "How are you, dear?" Dad asked and got a nod from me.
As I placed a plate before me, I noticed mom's gaze on me, which I ignored. "Your dad said you came home crying. What happened?" She asked nonchalantly, like she was being forced to.
"Come on, mother. It's obvious she got her heartbroken by one of her lovers; not like it's a new thing," Vera mocked, causing a great deal of anger to grow in me. "Stop it!" I yelled, "Stop it this very minute," I yelled, standing up to my feet. "Oh, keep quiet, spare thing," She cursed, causing a heavy groan to leave my lips. I was losing my temper, and I knew it would result in a fight if I didn't walk away.
"Thank you for killing my appetite. I hope you can eat my portion of the food like you always take what is mine," I spat and walked away, ignoring the call from my father.
With tear-filled eyes, I jogged on the street, with no particular location in my head. It was a Saturday, and the street was a little crowded. I could hear laughter and giggling from little children as I passed by. I could see couples holding hands with each making me feel even worse
With no direction in mind, I continued jogging until a horn blew behind me, halting me abruptly. I turned around to see Timothy seated in the driver's seat, and the moment I realized it was him, a big frown appeared on my face. Without a word, I began walking away.
"Wait up!" He called out as he left his car, but I didn't respond until he had blocked my path.
"What the hell is your problem?" I asked, irritated by his presence. Seeing him again brought back painful memories that I had buried for a long time. "How have you been?" He asked, causing an angry scoff to leave my lips. "As you can see, I'm alive," I responded, and I saw the guilty look on his face.
"Will you ever forgive me?" He asked with pleading eyes. "No, Timothy, I will never forgive you." I said truthfully, memories playing in my head.
"It was your sister I was always interested in, not you. I only dated you so I could get close to her, and now that I have her, I don't see any need to pretend." Timothy spoke with a soft chuckle while Vera giggled and rested her head on his chest, piercing a knife straight into my heart.
"Nora, Nora, are you here?" He called, bringing my attention back to him.
Quickly, I drew back the tears that threatened to fall on my cheek. I wanted to avoid giving him the privilege of seeing my cry again.
"You are a good person, Nora, and it was a shame that I couldn't get to see it. I was young and was only attracted by what I saw, but I didn't know there was more to just physical beauty." He paused and took a step closer.
I watched him bring forth his hand and wipe away the tears that had already fallen on my cheek. "You are a beautiful lady, Nora, intelligent and smart. You are a splendid cook, a great friend, and a great company to have. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise," He whispered, and unexpectedly, he hugged me. "I hope that one day you can forgive me and perhaps your sister for all she has done to you," He whispered and let go of me.
With tear-filled eyes, I saw him smile at me and turn to leave, but he stopped. "I'm getting married next weekend. To my mate. I met her four months ago." He smiled and made his way back to his car.
As he left, I continued my journey while his words played in my head.
Timothy was my first boyfriend. We dated when I was just seventeen, and he was nineteen. During our two months relationship, he showed me so much care and love, but all that was all just a scheme. He only wanted Vera and used me as a pawn.
I can still remember that faithful afternoon. He had asked me to visit him, and when I arrived at his home, I met Vera and him kissing on the couch in their sitting room. He wanted me to see them kissing, and they didn't stop until I screamed.
Right there, he told me he never loved me but wanted Vera and was glad that Vera also wanted him too. With tears and a broken heart, I stared at my sister and saw the victorious smirk on her face. She had wanted him from the start. She always wanted whatever was mine and always had it.
With a heavy sigh, I continued walking until I saw a group of children gathering around a little girl who had just fallen. Curious, I went to them and saw one of the kids was injured in her left arm.
"What happened?" I asked as I squatted before her, "I missed a step." She murmured in pain.
"Let me have a look," I told her, and she gave her arm to me. I took it, closed my eyes, and allowed my abilities to work.
"It's gone," A kid exclaimed, forcing my eyes open.
With a smile, she stared at her once-injured arm and realized it was all healed. "Thank you, beautiful one," she spoke happily, and instantly gave me a big hug. "Thank you...," she tried to speak but stopped, and pulled away from me.
I held her gaze and noticed her eyes were dark. This got me curious and alerted. "Brace yourself, so many pains await you," she muttered, leaving me confused. "What do you mean?" I asked, and noticed her eyes went back to their normal shade of brown. "Apologies," she whispered and stood to her feet, and I did the same.
She was already exhibiting her abilities at such a tender age. "My parents are working on it, so I can be able to control it. Thanks again for the healing," she said, and hurriedly left with her two friends following her.
I watched her leave, her words buzzing in my head, "Brace yourself; so many pains await you." Her words sent a chill down my spine.
