Chapter 20 It’s Just Another One of Her Tricks

“Don’t you think she deserves to be punished for losing something she wasn’t meant to lose?” Henry asked haughtily.

Leonard’s smile widened. “So, from what I’m hearing, it seems like you wanted her to stay married to you?”

Surprisingly, Henry seemed at a loss for words at Leonard’s teasing.

What was he really upset about?

Was he only upset because Natalie disregarded how well his grandparents treated her?

Or was it because of something else?

“Are you sure you haven’t somehow developed feelings for her amidst all your hatred?” Leonard asked teasingly.

Leonard laughed before he continued, “Some people have a way of sneaking into your life without you even noticing! Honestly, Henry, I’m curious what your would be like as a lovesick fool.”

Henry shot him a scathing glare. Somehow, he felt even more frustrated after talking to Leonard.

“Fuck off! That’s impossible!”

He had vowed to never fall in love again!

Henry had already been abandoned by a woman once. He would not allow another woman the chance to abandon him.

Leonard simply nodded knowingly.

Some day, Henry would definitely regret what he said.

Natalie searched for the ring for a long time but couldn’t replace it. In the end, she decided that there was no use wasting her time in the field any longer.

As such, she went to the bathroom and washed off the dirt from her hands before.

she left.

Perhaps someone had found the ring and took it with them. If that was the case, how was she supposed to replace it?

It was like searching for a needle in a haystack!

Just as she was lamenting her current situation, her phone rang.

It was from the prison … The prison!

Natalie hurriedly picked up the phone. Her heart was beating fast as she spoke, ” Hello?”

“Is this Ms. Natalie Shepherd?” the person on the other end asked.

“Yes!”

“I’m sorry to say that your father still doesn’t want to meet you,” the person said regretfully.

Natalie felt her heart sink.

Three years… For three years, she had asked countless times to meet, but her father would heartlessly refuse her every single time.

“Alright, I understand. Thank you.” Natalie said gloomily.

The warden continued, “However, due to your father’s good behavior in prison, he will be released next month. Then, you will be able to see him.”

Natalie’s eyes brightened. “Really? Is he being released earlier than expected? Did you say next month?”

“That’s right, we will let you know once he’s released.”

“That’s great! Thank you so much!”

Even after the call had ended, Natalie could not hide the smile on her face. She started tearing up as well.

She was finally going to reunite with her father! Then, she could finally ask him all the questions that had been eating away at her since he was arrested!

But the house

Natalie wrung her hands anxiously. She had to settle the matter of the house as soon as possible!

She didn’t want her father to see their house become a wasteland when he got out of prison.

However, she also knew deep down that the chances of her replaceing the ring were

slim.

Instead of wasting her time on something that she could never replace, she should try a more practical approach instead.

After contemplating, she fished out her phone and called Henry.

Henry picked up the phone after a while. “Did you replace the ring?”

Natalie didn’t beat around the bush and asked bluntly, “What if I can’t replace the ring?”

“I think you know full well what the consequences would be,” Henry drawled.

Natalie’s heart clenched.

“Can we change the conditions? I might not be able to… replace the ring…” she negotiated cautiously.

“So? You were so determined to get rid of the ring the other day,” Henry said mockingly.

Natalie opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t come up with anything to say.

Why couldn’t he understand why she was determined to give up on their marriage?

“Henry-

“Three days. If you still can’t give me the ring, then all negotiations are off the table,” Henry declared heartlessly and hung up.

Leonard watched Henry intently throughout his conversation with Natalie, and his eyes were sparkling with mischief.

“What are you planning to do if she can’t replace the ring in three days?”

Henry stood up slowly and adjusted the cufflink on his sleeve before calmly saying, “I don’t need to plan to do anything. She’ll beg me for help before the three days are up.”

Leonard watched him in confusion. “Since she was the one who asked for a divorce, why don’t you just sign the papers? I don’t understand why you’re doing all of this.”

Henry’s hand, which was fixing his sleeves, paused. But his expression remained calm as he met Leonard’s eyes.

“Divorce is just another one of her tricks!”

He was simply using his own methods to ensure that she never does anything like this ever again.

However, he had no time to play around with her for long. He needed to teach her a lesson within a few days.

Leonard pouted before teasing, “Who knows, she could really want a divorce this time.

“Honestly, leaving her alone for three years was really cold–hearted of you. I don’t think anyone could put up with that.”

“I’m busy. I’m going now,” Henry said curtly and left with his phone.

Harry was returning from his business trip today. Henry would pick him up from the airport soon.

Harry had missed their grandmother, Moira, while he was overseas. So the both of them had made plans to visit their grandmother.

Moira was still recovering from her recent fall. She just got discharged from the hospital yesterday.

“Hello, Harry,” Henry greeted when he saw Harry.

Harry was a man with a tall stature and was extremely handsome. Even amongst the crowd, he attracted the attention of those around him.

Harry was also currently in charge of the Chase family business and was great at managing the business.

He flashed a bright smile at Henry. “Have you been resting well recently? Why do you have dark rings under your eyes?”

Henry’s eyes twitched at that. Ever since Natalie had brought up the divorce, he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep.

However, he didn’t want to discuss it with Harry, so he simply said, “I’ve been at bit busy these days.”

“All you know is work,” Harry chided with a frown.

“Forget it. Let’s go visit Grandma first.”

“Alright.”

The driver took the luggage from Harry’s hands. They left the airport together and headed to the Chase family home.

On the way home, Harry received multiple phone calls from various maternity

centers.

“Your sister–in–law still hasn’t given birth yet, so I don’t even know why these maternity centers keep calling me,” Harry said with an exasperated smile.

“However, I do have to research and pick the most appropriate maternity center

woman’s life!”

Henry was slightly stunned by his brother’s words. “You… handle all these things personally?”

“Of course. It’s what a husband is supposed to do,” Harry replied matter–of- factly.

His tone was casual, but it still made Henry’s expression fall.

If Natalie was pregnant, what would he do?

Would he be like Harry and take responsibility for her pregnancy?
