Once Upon A Rejection -
Part 2 Chapter 27
Molly Morgan’s POV
Ezra pulled up a few miles away from the edge of the territory around Finn’s pack. Driving was faster but if we got too close then we would most certainly be captured. I wanted to rescue Talen, it wouldn’t do us much good if we were all captured on the way into the territory. I jumped out of the car as soon as it had stopped moving and started sniffing the air for any signs of Talen’s trail.
It was a cold night but not cold enough to stop me from picking up on Talen’s scent. They were nearby, maybe if we hurried we could get to them before the attack was due to start in almost half an hour’s time. I started following the scent but I only made it a few steps before I was pulled to a stop. Grayson wrapped his arms firmly around my waist, pulling me close to his chest and holding me there.
“You are staying here with Ezra and June while I sort this out.” Grayson said. His lips were next to my ear as he spoke in a husky growl that made my knees go weak. Both my lycan and my wolf were purring, they would do anything he wanted if he continued to talk to us like that.
Sensing my compliance Grayson let go of me and started taking off his clothes. He glanced at me briefly with a smirk on his face then shifted into his wolf and ran into the forest ahead of us. Leaving us alone to babysit Vincent, who was currently sitting in the back of the car under the watchful gaze of Ezra and June.
June placed her hand in mine and started pulling me back towards the car. “I know what you are thinking and I am not letting you go after him,” she told me. There wasn’t a lot that June could do to stop me if I really wanted to go but I would never put her in that position. She was only trying to keep me safe, it was Talen and Grayson who were going to be punished later.
Swearing under my breath I walked back towards the car. I wanted this night to be over. I hated waiting for things, it always made me anxious but this was worse than any anxiety I had ever experienced.
I hated standing here in the forest while my mates fought for their lives and that of our pack members. I hated not knowing if I would ever see them again. When things got back to normal I was going to train my a*s off to make sure I was never in this position again. Next time there was a fight I was going to be right in the front, kicking a*s.
‘About damn time,’ Scarlett agreed.
I had almost reached the car when the ground shook under my feet and made me stagger forward a few steps. I could hear what sounded like an explosion in the distance, the smell of burning wood started to fill the air shortly after it.
“s**t,” I shouted. There was nothing that could hold me back now. I ran into the forest in the same direction as Grayson had headed, not even taking the time to shift. As I ran I glanced over my shoulder, I could see Ezra holding June back so she couldn’t follow me. He was shouting something but I wasn’t stopping and I wasn’t listening.
“Stop!” Vincent shouted as I ran deeper into the forest. I ignored him and kept running as fast as my legs would carry me. I sprinted until my lungs burned and I could hear the faint sound of voices that I didn’t recognise in front of me.
I came to an abrupt stop and listened to their conversation. They were heading in my direction so I ducked down behind a bush. They wouldn’t be able to see me but if they were paying attention they would easily be able to smell my scent and follow it to my hiding place.
There were two of them, they were both lycans and they were laughing between themselves about something they had just seen. They were walking directly towards me but they were too busy congratulating each other on their win to notice my presence. The younger of the two lycans looked remarkably similar to Vincent, he must be the brother that he kept going on about.
My breath caught in my throat as adrenaline surged through my system. After everything Vincent told me about his family, I knew not to trust their appearance. They may be dressed like well presented businessmen but in reality they were ruthless fighters. They had each taken part in multiple fights and they were willing to do anything it took to win, even torturing members of their own family. Anger burned in my chest just thinking about what he had done.
“What do you think you are doing?” Vincent whispered as he kneeled down beside me. His pupils were dilated as he observed the two figures heading in our direction. His feet twitched as though he was preparing himself to flee.
“You should have let me kill that piece of s**t lycan traitor.” Vincent’s brother growled. Vincent shuddered beside me. I had never seen a lycan who was as truly broken as Vincent was. It made me wonder what they had done to him while they were holding him. I knew about the body parts they had taken but looking at the way he was acting now, there had to be more to it than that. He was petrified of them.
“He may be mated to a hybrid but he is still a powerful lycan and I am not going to let you kill him in cold b***d.” Vincent’s father replied. Vincent put one hand on my shoulder and the other on the inside of my elbow. He tried to drag me away but I resisted. They were too close for us to move now, nobody could be distracted enough to not notice that.
“It doesn’t really matter what you say. He will never be on our side so in the end he will have to die. I may as well do it now and get it over with.” Vaughn growled. His claws elongated and he turned around. He was going to go back and kill Talen.
‘Never.’ Scarlett screamed in my head as she pushed her way forward. There was no force on this planet that would have been able to stop her from taking over my body. I was forced to sit back and watch as she went after Vaughn.
Her claws were fully extended before she had managed to close the distance between us and him. Her anger had completely taken over, she was no longer thinking rationally and she wasn’t scared of the two lycans in front of us in the slightest.
“What do we have here?” Vaughn asked, a smirk spread across his lips. He thought he was much stronger than me, that I wouldn’t stand a chance against a full lycan such as him. Scarlett laughed in my head, she couldn’t wait to show him how wrong he was.
Scarlett stalked her prey, moving slowly and decisively. Vaughn was so arrogant that he took her slow movements as fear, he laughed. He turned to his father and made some derogatory comment about me. I wasn’t really listening to his words, I was focused on the task ahead of me. Vaughn however was acting as though he had already won this battle, Scarlett would make him pay for that arrogance.
“Finish her quickly, we don’t have time for this.” Vincent’s father said, rolling his eyes. Vaughn growled in frustration as he lunged at me. Scarlett waited for his claws to be mere inches away from my body before she dodged out of the way of his claws. She used our superior speed to get out of his way and swing our body around to dig our claws into his chest before he had time to recover his posture.
Vaughn staggered backwards and tried to dislodge the claws from his chest but Scarlett wasn’t going to let him get away that easily. She dug her claws deeper into his chest as he clawed at us trying desperately to push me away.
Scarlett pushed him into the ground. His attempts to fight back were getting weaker, Scarlett’s claws had pierced his heart and his b***d was running out of his body. He was dying underneath me, a few more seconds and he would be gone forever.
“No.” Vaughn’s father screamed. He gripped my shoulder and threw me into the air. While I was flying through the air I saw Vincent confronting his father and sending him running into the forest. Vincent turned towards me a moment before the ground rushed to greet me and the whole world went dark.
