Richard, still immersed in the joy of being able to be together with Maia, was completely caught off-guard by how Maia shoved him away.

His face turned pale. This would be the end for him if he fell!

Richard raised his head and looked at Maia incredulously.

"Why! Why are you doing this!?" he shouted. "Just because I didn't obey your orders and switched the memory-wiping medicine into poison? You cared about Cedrick's life, but what about mine?! You know I love you!" Gone was the gentle front Maia would often sport with Richard, replaced by a monstrous expression of ruthlessness.

"You still have the audacity to say these words to me?" sneered Maia. "Cedrick is going to die, but Grandpa Mason will surely search for the culprit behind his death. I can't let him suspect me. She continued, "After all, you're the one who changed the medicine, and you're the one who sneaked into the ward and poisoned Cedrick."

The fingers of Richard's left hand were forcibly pulled apart from their grip by Maia, leaving Richard hanging on the edge with just his right hand. His entire body was numb as he lost his balance and swung violently. "You're wrong, Mai! I love you so much! Even if they manage to replace me as the suspect, I'll take the blame!" he pleaded anxiously. "Please pull me up, won't you? I don't want to die! I still want to take care of you and our children!"

Maia sneered.

She would not believe such nonsense!

She proceeded to push his remaining fingers from the edge.
