Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 33
Lexi's POV
I left the pack house and walked home after they all left. It would take me a very long time to get home on foot but I had so much on my mind that I barely thought about it before beginning to walk. I was so shocked when I saw the state Vivian was in. At first, I thought she was playing tricks on me again but it turned out she was actually allergic to nuts.
But, how was I supposed to know that? We barely knew each other. The few times we met were spent explaining misunderstandings. If only she had been a bit more careful, all this wouldn't have happened. And Rachel, I'm sure her outburst wasn't only because she was worried about Vivian. It surely had something to do with what transpired between us earlier. She must have thought I was competing with her to get Mason's attention. If only she knew I didn't have the time for such meaningless things.
I glanced at my phone again expecting to see Mady's call but she never called. It wasn't mainly because I wanted to be assured she believed me, I was also worried about Vivian's state. She looked like she was in a very serious state earlier. I was surprised when I found myself walking in a very familiar neighborhood. It was too familiar to be a coincidence.
"How did I get here so fast?" I muttered to myself. I had walked on purpose so I could clear my jumbled thoughts but I hadn't even sorted half of it out yet and I was already home?
"Maybe because you walked about more than half an hour," Darcey replied sarcastically.
"Already?" I inquired in surprise. But I just left the pack house.
"That's what you get when you think too much," she responded.
"Lexi? Aren't you going in?" I heard my father's voice. I turned towards his voice and saw him tending to the garden.
"I was just about to," I replied with a smile walking towards him.
"How did your day go?" he asked.
"It went well I guess, except for the part where I almost killed someone," I replied, whispering the last part.
"What did you say? I didn't quite hear you," he said, turning off the tap and dropping the pipe he was using to water the plants.
"I said my day went great," I lied with a wide smile.
"That's great then. Let's go in," he responded, smiling at me. I nodded and we headed in together.
"Didn't you go to work today?" I asked surprised that I was seeing him home so early.
"I left work early," he replied.
I sighed. "Must be nice being your own boss. I can't wait to be a boss of my own that way, I can make my own decisions and not take orders from anyone."
He chuckled. "It's not as easy as it sounds but I'm sure you will do great. How are the tutoring sessions going? You are home a bit early."
How was I supposed to respond to that? If by some miracle, Mason didn't already hate my guts, I'm sure by now he does. His sister got seriously hurt because of me. I won't blame him if he decides not to tutor me ever again. Rachel also sounded very convincing. Who knew the sort of lies she must have fed him with?
"Lexi? Is everything okay?" he asked, snapping me out of my reverie.
"Yes, everything is fine," I assured him. Before I could be forced to respond to his earlier question, Mum suddenly opened the door.
"Good afternoon mum," I greeted politely.
"Afternoon dear. You are home early," she said.
"We ended the classes a bit early today," I replied. I didn't know for how long I would be able to keep hiding what happened from them. I wouldn't need to if Mason decided to change his mind.
"Go inside and freshen up, then you can come down to eat," she said. I nodded and headed towards my room. I dropped my backpack and lay down on the bed with a sigh. I glanced at my phone but I still got no call from Mady. I walked into the bathroom to take a shower and change my clothes. I ran out of the bathroom when I heard my phone ringing. And to my relief, it was Mady.
"Hello?" I said.
"Lexi, I'm sorry it took me this long to call you. Are you home safely?" she asked.
"I'm home. You don't have to worry about that. I've been meaning to call you but I figured you would be busy. How is Vivian doing? Is she okay?" I asked worriedly.
"Yes, she's fine. The doctor said she would have to stay in the hospital for tonight," she explained. It felt like a huge weight had just been lifted off my shoulder.
"That's such a relief. I was so worried. I'm so sorry about everything. Believe me, I didn't know about her allergy, if I had known, I would never have allowed her to eat..."
"Calm down Lexi, it's fine. It's not your fault. You don't have to blame yourself or allow whatever Rachel said to get into your head. Vivian already explained what happened to us herself," Mady replied, cutting me off.
"She did?" I inquired in surprise.
"Yes. Even if she didn't, I knew you would never have done something like that if you had known. I trust you completely," she assured me. My heart sank with her words. I've never been offered this level of trust before except from my parents. "Why do you trust me?" I asked.
"What?" she responded.
"Why do you trust me so much? We just met and you barely know anything about me. Do you always trust people that easily?" I inquired. I know I shouldn't be talking to her this way. There was nothing wrong with what she said but I couldn't help but feel this way. I haven't been completely honest with her.
"Lexi, what are you talking about? You are my friend and I'm bound to trust you right?" she asked in a confused tone. I fought the urge to admit to her that I hadn't been a good friend.
"Lexi? Open up. Someone's here to see you," Mum called out, interrupting the call.
"I will speak to you later," I said to Mady before hanging up. I unlocked the door and slowly opened it in surprise.
"Someone's here to see me? Who?" I asked curiously.
"I don't know. I forgot to ask for his name due to how handsome he looked but he said he was from your school. I had no idea you had such good-looking boys in your school," she explained excitedly. "What are you talking about?" I asked with a frown. A boy? Here to see me?
"Just go outside and meet him. He's waiting for you. At first, I had thought he was at the wrong house," she said, taking hold of my hand and pulling me along.
"I tried to invite him in but he said he only wanted to speak with you and it wouldn't take long. What does he want to talk to you about?" she asked curiously. "How would I know that when I have no idea who is here?" I responded.
"I guess you can replace out now," she said, gesturing towards the door with her eyes. I opened it and stepped out, I glanced around but couldn't see anyone.
"Mum? Are you sure someone's here to see me?" I asked her loudly.
"Hi," I heard a voice say. I turned around and I was met with the face of the person I never expected to see. He was behind the garden.
"Mason?" I asked in surprise.
"You sound surprised to see me," he stated the obvious.
"That's justified, isn't it? What are you doing here and how did you know where I live?" I asked.
"It's the 21st century Lexi, where you live wouldn't be a problem. And as for what I'm doing here, I came to apologize on Rachel's behalf. She didn't mean anything she said," he replied.
I frowned. "Shouldn't Rachel be apologizing? Why you?"
"Also, I apologize about Vivian too. She told us everything. You must have been startled by what transpired today," he said, not responding to what I said about Rachel.
"Why are you apologizing so much?" I asked with furrowed brows. Wasn't he supposed to be a jerk who was prideful and annoying? Why was he acting gentle all of a sudden?
"Because what happened was unfair to you. I don't like people being wrongfully accused," he responded.
"Oh really?" I snorted sarcastically.
"Excuse me?" he asked with a frown.
"I accept your apology. We can continue the tutoring sessions tomorrow, right? Since we both know it's not my fault. You can leave now, I was doing something important before you interrupted me," I replied rudely. I suddenly felt a light slap on my back. "Who taught you to be so rude?" mum asked sternly.
"S..since how long have you been listening to our conversation?" I stuttered.
