Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 97
Lexi's POV
Mason and I both glanced at each other in surprise, silently asking ourselves how he found out.
"Well?" Dad inquired, cutting our silent interaction off.
"I'm so sorry. It wasn't my intention to keep the truth from you," he apologized.
"Then why did you lie? You thought we wouldn't replace out?" Dad asked.
"I just thought it would be better if you didn't know back then. I also didn't put much thought into it because Lexi and I didn't exactly get along at first if you realized that. I was tutoring Lexi then and I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. I liked the way you treated me as one of you. People tend to treat me differently once they replace out my status and I didn't want that to happen," he explained.
"Yes Dad, he didn't mean to keep the truth from you," I pitched in to help out.
"We wouldn't have treated you any differently as long as you were Lexi's friend," Mum said.
"I doubt that. I noticed how you treated Mady when you found out she was the Alpha's daughter. I didn't want to get treated like that," he responded.
"He's right. I did get overwhelmed when I met his sister," Mum replied with a small smile.
"I'm sorry," he apologized again.
"It's fine. We understand but as the future Alpha, you shouldn't be apologizing so much," Mum said.
"Mum," I sighed. Her eyes widened.
"I got carried away again. I couldn't help it," she muttered. It was like that with me too but I realized he wasn't like other snobby Alpha kids.
"You should understand we are just looking out for our daughter. We need to be sure she will be properly loved and cared for. Now that we know she's mated to the Alpha's son, there are lots of responsibilities waiting for her. We need to be sure she won't feel out of place..."
"That won't happen, sir. I love Lexi and I will take care of her. I promise," he responded. Tears welled in my eyes as I glanced at the three of them. I had people who cared so much about me without realizing it.
Dad nodded. "I'm glad about that and I hope you keep your promise." I wiped my eyes and glanced at my wrist watch and I noticed the time was far spent.
"Mason, your parents must be waiting for you. You should leave," I said. He nodded in agreement.
"See you at my place tomorrow?" he whispered. I nodded with a smile.
"Before you leave, you should take these cookies along. Give some to your sisters," Mum said, handing them over to him.
"Thank you," he replied before taking them. "Lexi, see me off?" I tried to get up but Dad beat me to it.
"Why would you need her to see you off when you have me?" he asked. Mason looked surprised. I bit my lips to suppress the laughter that was threatening to spill.
"Common, I will see you off to your car," Dad said, gesturing for Mason to follow him. He glanced back to look at me.
Lexi's POV
Mason and I both glanced at each other in surprise, silently asking ourselves how he found out.
"I will see you tomorrow," I mouthed, blowing him a kiss till he walked out of the door.
"Look at you, all loved up," Mum said. I jumped, turning back towards her. I had completely forgotten she was there. She smiled widely at me.
"How do you feel?" she asked hurriedly walking towards me to take a seat.
"Good I guess," I mumbled, fiddling with my fingers.
"You look more than good. You are literally glowing!" she exclaimed happily.
"Am I?" I inquired curiously and she nodded.
"I'm so happy for you my dear. I can tell how much you both love each other from the way you look at yourselves. To think I used to pester you about making friends and socializing when we first got here and now you've gotten yourself a boyfriend who also turned out to be your mate. You deserve it after everything you've been through," she said, holding onto my hand.
"Thank you so much, mum. For everything," I responded gratefully.
"Lexi dear, there's someone here to see you," dad announced. I glanced at the door in surprise.
"Me? Who is it?" I asked curiously. He stepped out of the way and my eyes almost popped out of their socket.
"Good afternoon ma'am, good afternoon sir," she greeted with a polite smile.
"Rachel!" I exclaimed in shock. What was she doing here? And why was she been so polite?
"Afternoon dear," Mum replied.
"You must be wondering who I am. I apologize. I should have introduced myself first. I'm Rachel, Lexi's schoolmate," she introduced. I just stared at her speechlessly.
"Nice to meet you, Rachel," Dad said.
"I didn't want to visit for the first time empty-handed so I brought some fruits. They are all organic," she said, handing over a basket to my mum.
"That's so thoughtful of you. You are pretty and sweet. I didn't know Lexi had another friend," Mum replied. I scoffed. Friends?
"I saw Mason's car while I was driving in. Was he here?" she asked curiously. I glanced at her abruptly.
"He was. You know him?" Dad asked picking up his papers again. My smile faltered as I wondered what she was up to again.
"I do. We have been friends for a very long time," she replied, emphasizing the friend's part while staring at me.
"That's great then. Why don't you head into Lexi's room? I will bring you some drinks in a minute," Mum suggested. I shook my head not wanting to be in the same space as she was.
"That's very kind of you ma'am. What are you waiting for Lexi? Lead the way," she probed. I glanced at the relaxed and happy faces of my parents, I didn't want them to worry about anything especially if it had to do with Rachel so I led the way. "What the f**k are you doing here?" I asked as soon as we got in. I didn't want to let my guard down by shutting the door so I left it open.
"That's not a pretty word. Very unladylike if you ask me but nice room by the way. It's cute," she said sitting on my bed.
"Cut the crap, Rachel. You and I know you didn't come here to see my room. Why are you really here?" I inquired folding my arms in front of me.
"You are right. I didn't come here to see your room or visit you..," she paused and stopped glancing around the room. She turned towards me. "The truth is, I came here to apologize."
"What?" I asked with a frown.
"You heard me. I'm sorry for what my mum did to you. You have no idea how long it took me to summon the courage to come here. It's so embarrassing," she muttered. I stared at her in disbelief.
"I'm not repeating myself again. I already apologized so we have that cleared out," she said as she stood up and walked past me towards the door.
"Why did you hate me so much? I'm sure it's not only because you think I snatched Mason away from you. It started way before you even knew me," I said finally asking the question that had been on my mind. She halted in her steps. "You are right. It wasn't only because of Mason. I guess I was kind of jealous of you," she admitted. I turned around in surprise but her back was turned to me.
"You are surprised, right? It all began when I just arrived before I even started school here. I was eating at a restaurant alone when I saw you, eating and laughing happily with your parents. I was envious of how great your relationship with your parents was while I had nobody to share a meal with. I was lonely, coming from a family where my dad drinks and splurges his money on girls my age and my mum was always controlling and on edge. I guess I got this attitude from them both. The Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree after all," she turned around abruptly.
"I'm not saying this so you would pity me. I don't want your pity and I'm leaving immediately after our tests," she informed me.
"You are leaving?" I asked in surprise.
"I only came here to rebel against my mum and make my parents worry about me even if it was only for a day. I'm not even sure if I liked Mason as I claimed. Lust maybe but love? I'm not entirely sure what that means. This pack isn't meant for me so I'm leaving to replace my place in this world. I'm sorry for everything that I did. I was probably out of my mind then. I sincerely wish you and Mason all the best," she replied.
"Are you leaving already?" Mum asked in surprise, coming in with a tray.
"Yes ma'am. Sorry for the trouble but I have to leave now. Thank you for your warm welcome," she said with a smile before leaving. I always wondered how people as nice as Mason, Mady, and Torres could be friends with someone like her but I was mistaken. They were all indeed a good judge of character and I misjudged her. I guess rich people also had their problems.
