Paranormal Agency BOOK 2 : THE FUNERAL HOME. -
chapter 14
The next morning, Alison woke up to the sound of her cell phone ringing. She rolled around in her bed, reaching for the phone on her bedstand. Her eyes caught sight of the clock. It was 5:30 in the morning. Josh’s name came up in bright letters on the screen.
Josh?
She felt a twinge of excitement in her chest, despite the early hour. When it came to Josh, she was always a mess.
“Sorry to call so early,” Josh said when she picked up.
“It’s okay.”
“Did I wake you up?” he asked.
“Nope.”
“I had a question,” he said, his deep voice sending chills down her spine. Even his voice was gorgeous. She was in love.
“What’s that?” she asked.
“Did you want to grab a quick lunch today? At about noon. If you’re free, I mean. I understand if you’re busy.”
“I’m free,” she said quickly.
“That’s great. Let’s meet at Frank’s Diner at noon then.”
“Yeah okay,” she replied.
Lunch?
With Josh?
She felt embarrassingly ecstatic. She had been hoping to see him again. This however, came to her as a very big surprise. She hadn’t been this excited to see a guy in a very long time.
They hung up and she climbed out of bed. She doubted she’d be able to fall back asleep. She might as well take a shower instead. Yawning, she stumbled out of her bedroom. Greg was standing in the hallway and she let out a yelp, falling backwards and landing on her but. “What the fuck, Greg!” she shrieked. “Don’t scare me like that.”
“Sorry.”
“Sorry?” she complained. “I thought I told you not to barge in anymore without asking.”
“Are you still hung up on that rule?”
“Yes, I am,” she said, climbing back to her feet. She grabbed a towel from the toiletries closet in the hall. “Just ask first. That’s all you have to do. You make it sound like the hardest thing in the universe to do. It’s actually really, really easy Greg.”
“I heard you. You don’t’ have to keep talking about it.” He floated towards her and bent on one knee overdramatically. “Oh Alison, please allow me into your home?”
“Will you shut up?”
“I thought you wanted me to ask?”
“Greg. I need privacy. It’s not that hard.”
“Fine. Can I come in?” Greg asked.
“You’re already inside.”
“Well what do you want then? Do you want me to leave?”
She put a hand to her forehead, feeling another headache coming on. Greg had that affect on her. “Look. You’re already here. You might as well stay.” She looked down on him, still crouched on the ground. “And get up. You look ridiculous.”
“You have absolutely no sense of humor, you know that,” Greg commented, floating up again until he was beside her.
“Tell me something I don’t know.” Alison waved a hand in front of her. “I have to take a shower. Can you go away for a few minutes?”
“I could do that for you.”
“No spying. I’m not joking. I catch you in my bathroom and I’ll kill you.”
Greg rolled his eyes. “Not funny, Alison.”
Alison left him in the hallway, going into the bathroom and taking a quick shower. Greg was so annoying. He really got to her sometimes. Why couldn’t he just do what she asked him to once in a while? Didn’t he realize how aggravating that was?
She thought about Josh and smiled to herself. She and Josh had a date that day. Well, maybe not a date, but she liked to think of it as a date. And best of all, she wasn’t going to tell Greg about it. It’d be just her and Josh for once. She couldn’t wait.
