Chapter 170

Claude understood what Yvette meant.

“Rest up. Leave this to me,” he said.

After ensuring Yvette was stable and having the doctor check her again, confirming she was okay, Claude bid her goodbye and left.

When Xavier returned after doing what he had to, Claude was already gone.

Tristan had come with him. Since a nurse was changing Yvette’s bandages, they stood outside in the hospital garden.

“How did the car accident happen all of a sudden?” Tristan asked, puzzled. “Did they replace out who and

what car caused it?”

Xavier told him about how Claude had found the driver first and taken care of it.

Tristan was taken aback. “That guy’s got some skills. He got ahead of you!”

Upon hearing that, Xavier suddenly asked, “Do you think he’s better than me?” He couldn’t help but think about how Yvette had contacted Claude first when she had been in trouble.

Tristan paused for a moment. When he realized what Xavier meant, he chuckled.

“Xav, how can he compare to you? No matter how capable he is, everything he has here is still under your control.”

Xavier quietly listened to Tristan. For some reason, he didn’t feel particularly happy with that answer.

A cold wind accompanied by a drizzle blew.

“Did you know? When Yvette was in trouble, he was the first person she contacted,” Xavier stated.

Tristan was surprised at first, but then he eventually replied, “Maybe he’s just better at sweet–talking. Women like that sort of thing. Besides, that guy looks like a fox.”

Xavier was extremely handsome, like a distant, untouchable flower on a high peak.

Claude, on the other hand, was not only good–looking but also had a devilish charm, like a cunning fox. Women often couldn’t resist the allure of such a man.

Tristan despised men like Claude; he thought they only had good looks but were weak on the inside.

“It’s late. You should go home,” Xavier said.

Tristan was taken aback and felt a bit slighted that he was being sent away so soon. “Fine.” He sighed. Despite his reluctance, he left. Before he did, he glanced in the direction of Yvette’s room.

Yvette had just finished having her bandages changed and was looking toward the door when she made eye contact with Xavier, who had returned to the room

Today, Xavier’s usually pristine suit was slightly wrinkled. There was also a hint of stubble on his jaw. As Xavier was known for his cleanliness, this was the first time Yvette had seen him looking so unkempt.

He seemed to notice her curiosity before he walked straight toward her.

“I asked someone to send breakfast over,” he said, not mentioning Claude. He glanced at the suit jacket she had placed aside and then pulled up a chair to sit beside her.

Yvette noticed the scars on the back of his hand when he pulled the chair. “What happened to your hand?”

Xavier’s hands were usually well–kept. How did he get so many scars on them?

“Just a small injury.” Xavier nonchalantly took a seat.

Yvette didn’t realize that the injuries on his hand were from breaking the car window to rescue her.

“The doctor said you brought me to the hospital. Thank you.” She didn’t mention Claude, fearing it would upset him.

Xavier’s expression softened considerably. “You’re my wife. It’s a given that I could bring you to the hospital. The crash-”

“Was an accident!” Yvette cut him off. She knew how much Xavier cared about Daphne. If she told him the truth, he would probably protect Daphne.

Xavier gazed at her deeply but didn’t question her explanation.

Breakfast was delivered soon after, and they ate together.

After the meal, Xavier showed no sign of leaving. He continued to work in the room while Yvette remained under observation in the hospital.

As night fell, the outside world was bathed in a beautiful, somber light. Yvette had been reading for a long time and noticed that Xavier still hadn’t left. She eventually drifted off to sleep.

She saw Andy again in her dreams.

He stared at her with wide eyes as he thrust a knife into Yvette’s throat. “No!”
