Chapter 99

Yvette was startled. Before she could react, Xavier sat back down on the sofa and looked at her. “I’m unwell. Stay here and take care of me.”

“Will you let my friend go if I take care of you?”

Xavier grunted in agreement. His voice was hoarse and raspy.

“Alright,” Yvette agreed. She wanted to approach him anyway, so this would tie in well with her plans.

Xavier leaned back on the sofa, and his stomach ached sligh abroad last night.

He hadn’t eaten anything since going

“Ms. Snyder, you haven’t forgotten how to cook, have you? I’m hungry.”

“I’ll order some food for you.” Yvette took out her phone.

She was about to place the order when he frowned and stopped her. “I want to eat your cooking.”

“If I cook, you’ll have to wait for at least an hour or two,” Yvette explained.

“I can wait.” Xavier’s intense eyes looked intently at Yvette without looking away.

Yvette felt very uncomfortable under his stare. “I’ll go and cook now then.”

Xavier looked at her slender figure, and he swallowed slightly. The kitchen was so clean that it looked as if it had just been renovated. There were no groceries at all.

Yvette had no idea what kind of life Xavier had led after she left. She had no choice but to order

groceries online.

Xavier laid on the sofa in the living room, his eyes closed slightly as he listened to Yvette bustling around in the kitchen. It felt like things had gone back to how they had been in the past.

He felt terrible, but his mood was considerably improved. After resting for a while, he turned on his

phone.

The legal department person in charge had summarized the content of the rumors online for him. Xavier looked calmly at the speculation about Daphne.

He sent a message to the person in charge of the legal department. “Release her.” Then, he turned off his phone.

Daphne had saved Shannon’s life, but he did not care about her private life.

However, Carnival Central Media was affiliated with Lane Group. If what was on the Internet was true, he would have to reconsider whether he should keep Daphne there.

Yvette did not know that Xavier had already given the order for Kiki to be released, so she made him his favorite dishes.

She served them one by one and prepared the cold medicine. “It’s time to eat.”

Xavier went to the dining room and looked at the delicious feast on the table. How had he never

realized how well Yvette could cook?

You used to cook for me all the time, and you even used to debone my fish for me.” His nose was blocked, and his voice was muffled.

Yvette hadn’t expected him to remember that. She sat down opposite him and began eating. “Lucky I. don’t remember that.”

“What do you mean by that?” Xavier was annoyed again.

Yvette looked impassively at him. “You don’t think that anyone likes being a doormat, do you, Mr. Lane?

Xavier choked on his food. He suddenly felt that the food had lost its taste.

“No one wants to have no self–respect or dignity. Now I feel that only someone who treats me well is worthy of being loved by me.”

“Are you referring to Claude?” Xavier gripped his knife tightly.

They had been engaged for a year and married for three years. How could he lose to a childhood

friend of hers?

Yvette put down her cutlery. “I’m full. Don’t forget to eat your medicine, Mr. Lane.” She said the last few words meaningfully.
