Perpetual
Chapter 27

My period has always been consistent, I have never had any allergies my whole life so when I was two weeks late and I couldn’t keep down some of my favourite meals I knew that I had been knocked up. I have never been against the idea of having children but I never thought of having them outside wedlock. The world has advanced and people have these principles they are laying out for themselves and doing what they want but for me I still wanted to do it the right way which is why I have been depressed at the knowledge of being pregnant.

Lona walks into the house, I didn’t hear her drive into the yard or open the door. I guess this is really getting to me more than I imagined it was.

‘Why are you seated like this and wearing pajamas at this hour?’ She asks coming to sit next to me.

‘It’s really sad what happened to Pearl hey and I am sorry I couldn’t make it for the funeral since Gabby and I had that Paris trip.’ She quickly adds

I lift an eyebrow. I have not seen her from the time she announced that she was going to Paris and the normal thing any true friend would do is start by passing their condolences but here we are.

‘So we got back and we had to go to Livingstone for a birthday party. I told you about his bestfriend Zac right? So the boys decided to throw him a party and it was amazing but I am not a fan of his twin sister Zara. I don’t know but something about her just doesn’t sit well with my spirit.’

I am watching all this in silence.

‘Can you believe she wanted to do my makeup? I am not sure if she was trying to be my friend but I turned her down. She can continue being friends with that model her best friend.’

‘You have mentioned so many names Lona I am losing track.’

‘Okay so there is Zac who is Gabby’s bestfriend and Zara’s twin. Musonda is their friend and is dating Celine who is Zara’s bestfriend. I have no problem with the guys but it’s those two ladies I don’t like.’

‘Not everyone is out to get Gabriel from you Lona.’

‘I know but then I can never be sure. You know how I love him and want to do everything in my powers to make us stay together.’

‘Yeah I know.’

She pushed her sleeves up then quickly pushes them down again. I notice she has maria on her hands.

‘Lona what is that?’

‘Nothing.’ She says standing up and walking to the kitchen

I haven’t met her today so I know that she is doing this as a destruction from the issue at hand.

I follow her, she gets a carton of milk in the fridge and drinks right from it.

I move to where she is and press my thumbs on her hands making her wince in pain.

‘What was that about?’

‘Lona what happened to you?’

‘Nothing.’

‘Lona.’

‘You don’t expect me to tell you everything about my love life do you now?’

‘I don’t want to ask again. Is Gabriel hurting you?’

‘Hurting me? Of course not. We got freaky and maybe it got a little out of hand but he is not hurting me, why would you think that? You have met him he could never hurt a fly.’

‘I see.’

‘Oh Sasha, what do you know about getting freaky. You haven’t had a man in years and I doubt you have gotten laid in months.’

‘Actually I am pregnant Lona.’

She laughs.

‘You are not joking?’

‘Why would I joke about being pregnant?’

‘For one you didn’t tell me that you were seeing someone.’

‘I could have told you but you have been busy bonding with Gabriel and his friends.’

‘Come on Sasha. You could have picked the phone.’

‘Lona my cousin died, you didn’t pick the phone to check up on me. It has been close to a month and you haven’t even texted but you have been all over the world, show casing your life on social media and you are going to stand in my presence to question me about this?’

‘Well I didn’t think I needed to check up on you.’

‘Excuse me?’

‘You were never close to Pearl, you treated her like a servant not like a friend or relative. I didn’t think her death is something that was going to get to you. Besides we both know we have never owed anything to each other so how is my travelling and loving my boyfriend such a big thing?’

I swallow hard, trying to carefully pick my words.

‘I guess you are right Lona. We don’t owe each other anything so I don’t have to tell you about my pregnancy. But will you have time to attend my wedding or maybe you are too busy to attend?’

‘You don’t have to be sarcastic.’

‘I think leave my house Lona. I don’t want to have anything to do with you any more.’

‘You are joking right?’

‘Like hell I am! Leave!’

‘Wow. Just wow.’
