Please behave My Lord -
Chapter 170
Chapter 170: Showing off
Smoothing out the wrinkles in her suit that had appeared from the car ride, Mariana walked slowly toward the building with a smile on her face. -Hi, I'm Mariana Ortiz, the designer for today's interview.
The busy employee at the front desk was quick to nod and smile when she saw her:
-Mr. Castro told me in the morning to take you directly there when I arrived, please follow me.
With that, she smiled kindly at Mariana and took the lead to leave.
Mariana followed her, got on the elevator and soon reached the twenty-fourth floor, then the two got off one after the other.
The receptionist led her to an office and knocked softly on the door before opening it and entering.
-Mr. Castro, Miss Ortiz from the interview has arrived today.
Then, the receptionist left.
-Miss Ortiz, please take a seat.
There were three seats in front of Mariana, but the middle one was free, and a man and a woman were sitting next to her.
At this point, the woman looked her up and down, then looking at the resume in her hands, frowned and asked first:
-Mariana Ortiz? The last company she worked for was also good, I wonder why she decided to quit.
Mariana shot a quick glance at the presentation board in front of her: Aime Chillon, general design manager.
-I think everyone knows one or two people in this world that you don't like, but you have to get along with, and I happened to meet such people in that company.
I hadn't thought to explain it, after all, these people didn't understand the situation back then either.
At that, Aime, who was in front of her, turned her eyes away from her CV and raised her head to give him a puzzled look.
The man next to him also took the floor:
-Miss Ortiz, on what basis are you hired by our company?
When I had just seen Aime's name, I had naturally noticed the man's business card: it was Nilson Vidal, the head of Personnel.
-Based on my talent for design, as well as my ability. I'm sure you two have seen my work, your company is one of the top names in the industry, a dream destination for young designers, and I think I should be one of them.
This was all Mariana could do to show herself off.
At the same time, the interview was projected on the big screen, through which another man was watching it.
Lionel stood behind him, watching Mariana's performance with his heart beating like a drum playing, but with admiration in his eyes.
Mariana at this moment was like nothing he had ever seen before, who was calm, wise and serene, as if nothing could break the peace on her face. She had always been like that, and she should be like that. He lowered his head and looked silently at the boss in front of him.
Quite by chance, during Leopoldo's last visit to the company, he had crossed paths with the receptionist who came with a pile of information and she had accidentally bumped into him, then the papers in her hands were left scattered on the floor.
And it happened even more occasionally that a curriculum landed at Leopoldo's feet and Mariana's photo was pasted on it.
And that is how the interview took place.
Leopoldo narrowed his eyes, hiding all his emotions under his long eyelashes. With his hands clasped, he looked calmly at the woman on the screen.
A straight professional suit enveloped her delicate figure, her white shirt was scrupulously buttoned to the first button. He stood there with a peaceful, unhurried face.
The man pulled out his phone, his long fingers rubbing the metal edge back and forth. He blinked and made a call.
The softly spoken words reached the ears of the Chief of Staff, who could not help but glance at Mariana in front of him and respond with a hasty shake of his head: -Understood.
At this point, Aime who was still looking at the designs in her hands frowned and said:
-Miss Ortiz, this work of yours does not seem so different....
Before she could finish her question, Nilson stood up with a cordial smile and approached Mariana, held out his hand and said gently:
-Congratulations, Miss Ortiz, you have been hired.
A huge surprise appeared on his Mariana's face and her eyes widened, while her heart beat rapidly with the pounding of the shock that was like the waves of the sea touching the reef. He hastened to shake her hand and said:
-Thank you.
But in the meantime, Aime, who was sitting further back and had received a phone call, remained somewhat annoyed. With hostility on her pretty face, a meaningful look was fixed on her. -You can report to the office tomorrow and officially start work.
-Thank you very much.
When she left Empresa Elamorad, Mariana was still in a trance and unable to believe that she had actually found a job.
Even until he returned home and sat down on the couch, he was still seething with joy.
And at this moment, not far away, the sound of the door opening was heard and it was Leopoldo who entered.
She froze, not expecting him to return; she hadn't seen him since the last time they had met at the hospital and had had a conflict.
The smile faded from her face and Mariana averted her gaze, picking up the magazine on the table in some panic and opening it to read it.
Leopold eyed the seated woman with his usual cold stare and went straight upstairs, as if he hadn't seen the change in her expression.
During dinner, Carmen cooked a few extra dishes to celebrate Mariana's success in her job search. After serving the food to the table, she smiled and looked at the two before saying: -Mr. Durán, you came back so early today to celebrate Madam's job offer, didn't you?
After a pause, he continued:
-How can we not have a drink on such a happy occasion? I'll go get the wine.
With that, he took the liberty of doing so while ignoring the opinions of the two.
He soon returned with a bottle of wine and two glasses and placed them on the table, poured half a glass for each of them and gently placed them next to his hands before leaving with a smile on his face. It was clear that he expected Leopoldo and Mariana to get along happily.
-I heard you found a job?
Mariana blinked, holding the chopsticks in her hands as she removed the bones from the fish, and replied softly:
-Yes, the Elamorad Company.
He showed a cold laugh with a face full of mockery. He lifted the cup and shook it a couple of times, watching the burgundy liquid rise along the wall and then fall back down by gravity, sinking to the bottom and puddling into a thicker color.
She still remembered that the last time she had lost her job it was because of him....
