My head dropped back with a groan as Jenny ran out the door. This was one huge cluster fuck. “Shit.”

“Good going, Butcher,” Ricochet said with a shake of his head.

Butcher looked over from the bar and glared at me. “How was I supposed to know this asshole was keeping things from his old lady? Fuck all of you,” he growled, snagging the beer Pixie held out for him and stomping out of the room.

Riptide chuckled as we all watched him go. “What are you going to do about that?” he asked, motioning to where Jenny had raced from the clubhouse like a haboob—a dirt devil—sweeping over the desert.

It was fitting because like one of those devils she was wreaking havoc with my fucking emotions. Seeing her again was like a punch to the gut and after all my plans to apologize to her and explain myself, now she wanted nothing to do with me. How had I managed to fuck things up this badly so quickly?

I sighed and shrugged. “I’ll figure something out.”

Hush came back downstairs, looking as miserable as I felt. “You deserve that,” he said, pointing at me. “Shouldn’t have jerked the girl around in the first place.”

“I didn’t fucking jerk her around, asshole. I had shit to deal with and couldn’t do it all at once.” I knew he was just getting back at me for fucking with him when he was trying to deny being interested in his old lady.

Hush’s expression softened. “Yeah. Sorry, man. The guys told me about Wendy.”

It didn’t surprise me. There weren’t many secrets amongst our brothers. That’s why Butcher had called Jenny my old lady. Everyone knew I wanted her, even though I’d broken things off. Of course, in Butcher’s world, the only difference between wanting and having was a matter of minutes. And sometimes some screaming. When I’d told Wendy I would keep her secret she knew that included everyone but my MC brothers. If she hadn’t wanted them to know she would have said so explicitly, that’s how it works. Lockout or Riptide must have spread the news. I didn’t care. I didn’t have secrets from these men.

“How pissed is Seek?”

He palmed his face and rubbed his hand back over his hair, rolling his eyes and looking irritated. “Extremely, but she’ll get over it.”

“That why you’re down here with us, Old Man?” Rip asked with a grin.

“Fuck off.”

“Kicked you out, didn’t she? I bet you get sick of sleeping down here before she backs off The Silverbells mystery,” Toxic wagered, with a malicious grin. “I like your woman. She’s got brass balls.”

Seek and her dogs spent most nights at the clubhouse at this point and we were all happy to have them around, Hush most of all. She was already treating our home like hers and that included kicking her man to the couch if he pissed her off. Just so happened there were couches down here if the women needed more space to be pissed off in and didn’t want them in the apartment. I’d feel sorry for Hush if he hadn’t fucked me over by ruining my plans with Jenny.

Hush shook his head and flipped us all off. Before long more of our brothers joined us. I left them to drink and went upstairs to replace Caitlyn. It was best I didn’t disappoint two females in one day. I could make things right with Jenny, eventually. I couldn’t bear the thought of disappointing that little girl.

I didn’t wait for Jenny to call me. There were things I needed to get done yesterday so she’d gotten a reprieve from me, but she wasn’t getting away that easily. I’d given in before and let her go. I wasn’t doing it again.

Walking into the CPS building, I glanced around and spotted her inside an office. She was sitting with her elbow on the desk, chin propped in her hand, as she stared at the computer screen in front of her.

“Hi, can I help you?”

I glanced over and my brows shot up. The woman was probably five-nine, blonde, with a stacked body that was squeezed into a tight skirt and tighter blazer. She didn’t have anything on under it and my eyes dipped down to where the top button strained, trying to contain her tits. When my eyes flicked back up to hers I read the knowing in them. A sultry look was pasted on her face. She liked that I’d checked her out, though it’d been more reflex than anything else. Seemed my interest was more in small, curvy, curly-haired brunettes these days.

Her hand went to my bicep as she continued speaking. “I’m sure I can help you with whatever you need.”

I didn’t miss the clear invitation. I just wasn’t interested. “Looking for Jenny Jacobs.”

The woman’s lips turned down into a frown. “You don’t want her. I can help you-”

Stepping out of her reach, forcing her to take her hand off me, I shook my head. “No, I don’t want you.” I left her there with her mouth hanging open.

I didn’t make it two more steps before another woman stepped into my path. “Hi, I heard you say you needed to speak with Jenny.” There was a friendly smile on her face and she was wearing something that seemed more in line with working here. “I can take you to her.”

My lips twitched in amusement since Jenny’s office was directly across from where we were standing, but I followed after the woman. I waited while she knocked on Jenny’s door then shoved it open.

Jenny’s eyes widened when she saw me, then darted over to the other woman.

“There’s someone here to see you,” the woman said, an amused tone to her words. I caught her wiggling her brows at Jenny and bit back a smile.

“Thanks, Darlene,” Jenny replied, narrowing her eyes at the woman.

Darlene patted my shoulder. “She’ll take good care of you.” With that she turned and walked away.

Shutting the door, I walked over and pulled the blinds closed, blocking us out from the rest of the building.

“Why are-” She frowned as she watched what I was doing and changed her question. “What’re you doing?”

“I’d rather do this in private,” I told her, turning to face her.

A suspicious look crept over her face. “Do what?”

My grin was slow, like my gait, as I walked toward her. She stood up behind her desk, looking like a scared little woodland creature who was about to flee. I wanted her to run, then I’d get to chase. Never mind the chaos it would cause in the office, it would be fun. Her sharp tone brought me back to reality.

“Don’t.” Her beautiful eyes widened in surprise as she said it. She didn’t trust me, and that was fine. I’d given her reason not to. Now she’d just have to learn to do so again. No time like the present. She edged around her desk as I kept coming and tried to run to the door.

Catching her around the waist, I yanked her against my body and did what I’d wanted to do yesterday. Her lips were soft beneath mine and she stilled as I fitted our mouths together. She was a sweet little handful and I ran my hands down and cupped her ass. As much as I wanted to feel it in my hands, I’d really only done it so she’d part her lips.

Her gasp gave me the opportunity to plunge my tongue into her mouth and thrust it against hers. I moved my hands up to her face, cupping her cheeks as I backed her against the wall. She was pliant, stunned into obedience, as I moved her into the position I wanted.

It wasn’t until her back hit the wall that she seemed to snap back into reality. Her hands fisted in my shirt and for a brief moment I thought she was going to throw caution to the wind and kiss me back the way I wanted her to. Instead, she pushed against my chest and turned her head away, breaking our lips apart.

I let her go and stepped back, watching her retreat from me, even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. We were both breathing hard and I had to reach down and adjust my dick to keep it from tenting out my jeans.

Her eyes followed the movement and her cheeks flushed a pretty pink. I loved when she did that. It made me want to see what all I could do to her that would cause her to blush.

“You can’t just do that, Priest,” she said, breaking the silence.

“Apparently I can?” I gave her a predatory grin.

She tossed her hands up in exasperation. “You dumped me. Left me with one brief text and no explanation. You don’t get to pick up where we left off because all of a sudden you’ve decided to.”

She wasn’t wrong. What I’d done hadn’t been fair to her, but I planned on making that up to her.

“Get out.”

My brows shot up at the anger in her tone. She was scowling at me, hands on her hips, one foot tapping. It was as though her body needed to release the stress and energy stored there. She seemed to have an overabundance of energy and was always on the move.

“No.” As much as I wanted this to be over, for us to just be a couple, I was loving the fight inside her. The fact that she wasn’t a pushover, was standing her ground, just made me want her more. She was going to make me work for it, and deep down that thrilled me.

Her eyes narrowed and she huffed out a frustrated breath. She picked up a file folder from her desk and walked back over to me, slapping it against my chest.

I bit back a grin. She was pissed at me, but it was sort of cute. I wasn’t stupid enough to say that out loud of course. Grabbing the file, I opened it. “What’s this?”

“Fill that out and get it back to me. I need the information for Caitlyn’s case file.”

Scanning the documents, I nodded absently to her as I read. Name. Address. Income. History. All pretty standard stuff. I knew they’d run a background check on me and thanks to my military achievements I knew I’d pass with flying colors. There wasn’t a single black mark on my record—and if there had been Riptide would make it disappear—so there wasn’t anything for them to latch onto. Other than being in the club and living at the clubhouse, there weren’t any red flags.

There was an easy enough answer to those problems however. The Oro Valley house was in my name, so I’d put that down as my address. Jenny would be able to explain why I was living at the clubhouse. As far as CPS knew it would be a temporary residence until I ‘found’ another place.

As for the club itself no one knew what we were. As far as the community knew we were just motorcycle enthusiasts who got together occasionally to ride. We kept it that way on purpose. The only people who knew what we really did were either family, close friends, or people we’d helped and not a single person would rat us out to the cops, or to CPS.

“Go to lunch with me.” It came out as more of a demand than a request. It may not have been the right approach, I realized as her expression darkened. Oh well, she was just going to have to get used to me. I wasn’t the kind of man who used pretty words and flowers to get my way.

“I have work to do,” she insisted. There was a flicker of desire that showed on her face before she chased it away.

It gave me hope. That and the way she’d responded to my kiss. She was hurt and angry, but there was still a chance. She still wanted me. Deciding not to push my luck, I opened the door to her office. “This isn’t over, Jenny.”

She didn’t say anything as I walked out. Eyes followed me across the building as I left, but I ignored them. I was already forming a plan on how to win her back.
