You'd think with the world falling to shit I'd be more upset. Like really really upset- but honestly even with everyone having to stay in and quarantine Nathan has the hook ups.

Only essential personal that WANT to work are working- but not before Nathan got to work on his essentials and I got to work on mine. We ended up replaceing an abandoned house- which I had heard on the news wasn't super uncommon since the increasing infertility rates in women. Yet ironic how people still couldn't afford them and instead often where found squatting in the ones the banks owned.

It was in a good location up high on a hill and we've spent the past week reinforcing boards and different ways to go in.

"I don't think they can open door handles."

"I just want to be safe." I said making sure it would slide just right and fall down heavy if I needed to pull it. "It'll block them out."

"But block us in."

I had this nagging feeling that they might get through the door anyways if there where a lot but maybe I had seen to many zombie movies.

"What's canned bread?" Nathan asked wrinkling his nose.

"Food, we won't have to scavenge for until we have to especially if we keep going to food banks."

"You really think the government can't contain this?"

I thought about it for a few moments. "Honestly I'm not really sure. I think they go to extreme measures to protect their people but I really don't know."

Nathan was silent for a long time watching me work as he continued to slowly twist wires. Apparently he was a bit of a wiz kid with electronics which made up for my severe lack of skill. He was currently setting up solar panels but there was an issue with the attachment of one of the plug ins or something. "It was my sister. In that room. That's why I know."

"Your sister in what room?" I asked dusting off my pants turning around to look at him confused. It took me a moment to realize what he had meant.

"They took my mom first because she had a cough. That's honestly all it was but- there was a big fight and they took my dad too. My sister had been watching me and encouraging me saying everything would be fine. I don't know how she got sick but I was trying to pull her out of the room when the alarms went off..." His voice shook and suddenly I understood.

The blood, not talking, asking if there where more...

He had killed her.

Wither it was before she had turned or not didn't really matter to me and I didn't need him explaining anymore. "We have to make tough choices in life sometimes."

It was the first time we really made physical contact. I hugged him hard and even though he didn't openly cry I felt his body shake and the warmth of tears on my shoulder. Honestly I don't know how he's still together.

Then again I don't know how I am either.

Part of me still feels pretty displaced like I'm suddenly living someone else's life. Even though we're running out of money we seem to be stocked on everything we'll need to kind of stay here for the long haul. Part of me should feel sad about having to hole up again but part of me is excited because it's also on my own terms.
