Damn it!

“Don’t worry about the flames, Selina. I have a friend on his way to put it out. And, to douse the men waiting for us,” Matheus confided as he snickered quietly. “I wish we were closer. I want to see their faces.”

“We’ll be closer in a few minutes. Madrid, Digger, Claw, Dragon, and Mateo are close. They will be coming up behind each of us,” I pointed out to the men.

“How in the hell do you know that?” Madrid growled as he jumped down behind me.

I laughed lightly. “At least you don’t have a blade or gun pressed to your body.”

“True enough. I would love to know how you knew what we were going to do.”

“Ask Antonio. He was the one to teach me how to feel your surroundings. Blame it on him,” I bragged, smiling softly.

“Are you going to help train my men? Please,” Madrid asked in a pleading tone of voice.

I nodded my head, putting my fingers up to my lips. I started to slowly swivel my head around me. I looked to the trees the men were in, the ones I could see. I felt a displacement of air, barely a brush of clothing on a tree. I pinpointed where the man was. I turned my head slowly towards him. The man was in the trees close to us. I signed to Madrid to push back to another tree and to squint his eyes so his pupils wouldn’t reflect back into the night as I moved to a higher limb.

I watched as the man moved slowly. He was looking at almost every limb. He didn’t look up into the smaller limbs. His mistake was going to be my gain - meaning one less of the monsters men. I pulled my legs up and flipped my body upside down. I was holding myself in a crunch, waiting for the man to get right under me. As soon as he did I put my blades across his throat, letting him fall to the ground.

Oops, my bad.

I climbed down and pulled his body to the others, covering him in the dead foliage and taking a limb to erase the marks of his fall from the ground. When I was done I climbed back into the tree and waited for anymore to come through.

“Oops, my bad,” Flirt quipped.

“I said that out loud?” Of course I did. I need to keep my thoughts in my head and not in my mouth. I used to get in so much trouble growing up. I thought I had stopped it. Guess not.

I heard snickering from the guys. I guess it was my time to picked on. I kind of liked it.

I stopped moving, stopped breathing. My eyes hazed over for a second. I was shaking until I got mad. I started breathing again. My eyes cleared and I stopped shaking. Now, I was pissed. He was not going to leave a mess of a little girl. Never again! I wouldn’t let him. He knew what buttons to push but now it wouldn’t work anymore.

"Selina, I know you’re out there. I’m going to replace you. I won’t give you to my men. I. Will. Kill. You. Myself. Do your hear me?” The monster yelled into the night.

I didn’t answer. He was trying to goad me into giving myself away. I knew he had more men stationed all around the rainforest. I wasn’t stupid enough to give my position away. He was wasting his time yelling at me.

I felt several men moving in the trees. I quickly signed to the men, telling them they were in the trees now. The men nodded, watching for the men to show up. This was going to be a fight in a half. Our fight would be in the trees, something not easy for some of our big men. There was no room to maneuver around. And, I knew the monsters men would be loaded for bear. The monster didn’t play fair. I watched as a man slithered up the tree behind Warrior.

Warrior exploded, grabbing the man from behind him, covering his mouth, and slitting his throat. He grabbed the man’s radio and placed the man in a crook of the branches. He moved to another tree, setting himself up against the trunk of the tree.

I felt the movement behind me. But, what this shit-stain didn’t know is I already scoped out my move before he got here. I quickly pulled myself into the limb above his and stabbed him in the head. He twitched for awhile until he finally died. I pushed him into the crook of a branch. It probably wouldn’t hold him for long but it would be okay for now.

It was Madrid’s turn to reach up and break the man’s neck, who was in the process of bringing up his blade. He tried stuffing him in the crook of the tree he was in but the man fell through the limbs hitting the man who was crawling up the tree. Both men fell the rest of the way down. Both of them with broken necks.

“Cheater,” Flirt whispered to Madrid.

“I planned their fall. There was no luck involved,” Madrid countered.

I looked at him incredulously. Sure it was planned, I thought. The General was crazy but a good kind of crazy. I snickered into the coms unit.

I signed to Eagle as he moved trees. He was about to step onto one of the monsters men. I shook my head at him and kept quiet. I wanted to see what he would do. I was squinting at him, hiding my eyes as best as I could.

Eagle moved, grabbing the man he almost stepped on. He brought the man up and slit his throat. He was about to stuff the man in the trees but he felt as if he was being watched. He looked around slowly not seeing anything.

I signed to him to duck. He did and I threw my blade, embedding it into the man’s chest - right where is black heart was beating. Eagle nodded to me in thanks and threw my blade back to me, intending for the blade to hit the tree I was on. But, I caught it in mid-air and put it back in my sheath. Eagle’s mouth was hanging open as I snickered quietly at him.
