Chapter 66 - Shadow Mates
Madrid’s phone rang. He had everyone hold on as he answered his phone. “General, Madrid.”
I wasn’t listening to his conversation, not wanting to intrude. It was his business and I knew better than to listen to it.
Madrid hung up his phone, turning toward Matheus and I. “We have a major problem. The judge gave Ice a free pass until he goes to court and is sentenced or not. He can help the young recruits on base but he can’t go on missions.” Madrid’s face was beat red he was so mad.
Matheus turned a little pale as I shrugged. “He was going to come at me anyway. I’m not worried. It’s not as if I haven’t been in this situation before.”
“How can you be so calm, Selina? You’re pregnant and he will come after you,” Matheus voiced his concerns.
I looked at him, arching one eyebrow at him. “What does being pregnant have anything to do with my skills? I’m not worried and neither is my jaguar.”
“Can you please wear one of my suits? It would make me feel better. Plus, my jaguar is going nuts,” Matheus asked me.
I nodded my head. The suits were comfortable and I could wear it until he came at me or until court. “I hope they took his passports. He has one for California, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, and Bolivia,” I looked at everyone’s faces. “What? He was bragging to one of the seconds in command as I practiced my shadow training.”
Madrid grabbed his phone and called up JAG. “Did you know he has passports for other countries?”
I heard a lady say yes. They knew of the two passports for California and Portugal. Oh, were they ignorant, I thought as I shook my head.
Madrid’s face was redder than before. “No, he has passports for California, Portugal, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, and Bolivia. You need to get all his passports. I suggest you do it now before he rabbits.”
I heard yes, sir. I should have told Madrid ahead of time but I wasn’t thinking. Plus, I thought they would know about all of them. “I’m sorry, General. I thought everyone would know about his passports, especially the government. I figured that would be the first thing they would look for. I’m sorry,” I explained. I felt so bad. I should have known Ice could hide them from the government.
“It’s not your fault. It should have been my first question after you identified him. It’s okay,” Madrid told me.
“Are we going to play with these helmets or what?” Flirt whined as the General slapped the back of his head.
Matheus cleared his throat. “Let’s do this.”
We walked into the range and picked up a rifle. I was watching the men. I wanted to see their reaction to the helmets. I hoped everything worked correctly. I picked up my rifle after I activated my helmet. I wanted to roll my eyes at the command to activate. It was a little embarrassing but it would be funny to see the other soldiers saying it. I couldn’t wait.
We lined up and the men started shooting. They were yelling back and forth, laughing at the helmets capabilities. I waited until I heard their comments before I picked up my rifle and starting shooting my targets. I didn’t need the helmet but it was fun to play with. I pulled my helmet off and took a few practice shots, hitting the target and hitting the same bullet hole with the second shot.
“The soldiers are going to love these. Great job you two. Now what are you naming this weapon?” Madrid gushed, pulling his helmet off.
Matheus and I looked at each other and smiled. We said together, “Shadow Mates.”
All the men started laughing at our name for the helmets, Matheus and I joined them in their laughter. We laughed when we first named them.
“Great name, Matheus and Selina. I can’t wait for more projects you two do. These are fantastic,” Madrid told Matheus and I.
“Thanks,” Matheus and I remarked.
