Promised in Blood (Broken Bloodlines Book 2) -
Promised in Blood: Epilogue
Even through the walls of this ancient chamber, I feel it. Like a crack in the fabric of reality. A change in energy and power that reverberates throughout the universe itself.
Alexandros Drakos lies at my feet, the silver chains now slipped from his arms, leaving angry red welts in their wake. Giorgios drops to his knees at his brother’s side and cradles his head in his hands, murmuring to his unmoving body in Greek.
It is a sad yet inevitable truth of this world that the quickest and surest route to power is pain. To tear Ophelia Hart from her family once more—to shred her fragile heart to pieces is both dangerous and cruel.
Although I have always thought the notion of cruelty to be so very subjective. Is it really cruel if what you do is for a higher purpose? This is why the Order exists. For objectivity and balance. Because in a world with hearts and souls and life-long bonds, men, even men as powerful as Alexandros Drakos, will always choose the bigger sacrifice. He would let the entire world burn to save her.
So whilst some may consider me cruel to allow Ophelia Hart to be torn from the only true loves she has ever known, I consider it necessary. Because Kameen was right; she has no need for our help. She is capable of everything all on her own.
I slip out of the chamber unnoticed. My work here is done, and I must return to the Order to face my fate. Kameen will know by now what I have done. A figure falls into step beside me, shrouded in the hood of their thick cloak, but I know who it is. I knew he would come. “Did you feel that?”
I more than felt it, and he does not need me to confirm that.
“What did you do, Nazeel? What happened?”
My lips curve into a wide smile. “The chosen one is here, Lucian.”
