Promised To The Alpha Twins -
Chapter 71
“Can someone explain what the High Table is?” I demanded.
“The High Table is composed of the most powerful Alphas of our time. The Alphas of the five largest packs. They are our government. They rule over all the Alphas in this country,” Axel replied.
I pieced it together and furrowed my brow, “When I become the Luna of the three packs, I will officially have the largest pack in the country. They’ll want me to take a seat at the main table.”
“You? Never,” Thomas scoffed, his expression bitter. “No matter if you could kill them all, they would never allow a woman to sit at the main table. They’ll insist your mate takes that honor.”
“That seat belongs to Sussan,” Liam spoke first, looking at Ethan, who nodded in agreement. They both looked me in the eyes, and the emotion emanating from them made my heart ache. “She could help protect all the future white wolves. She could change things.”
“That she could. Which makes her even more dangerous,” Axel spoke grimly, turning his eyes back to me. “Whichever Alpha you oust from the High Table will become furious and will set their sights directly on you.”
“They can try, but we’ll keep her safe,” Ethan retorted. “The members of our pack will protect her with their lives.”
“Very well. It seems we agree on something, for once,” Axel replied. “You have the full support of my pack, but I won’t bow under your rules, boy. If we do this, we do it as equals.”
“Agreed,” Liam nodded, and Ethan did the same. “You also have the support of my pack,” Thomas nodded.
“They won’t come for her. They’ll wait for her to come to them. I’d say she has a week, maybe two, before they call a meeting.” Axel grimaced, running his hand through his hair. “You’ll have no choice but to attend. Declining is declaring war.”
“Then we wait,” Liam responded, his eyes softening as they met mine. “We’ll be ready when they call.”
“I want to train,” I blurted out the words through my own fear-soaked gaze. This was becoming much more than I had intended. I had accepted Liam and Ethan. I had accepted what I was and what I could do, but this, this was too much. First, I had to deal with the fact that I wasn’t human. Then, I had to accept that I was a coveted white wolf; and now, now I had five of the most powerful Alphas gunning for me. What scared me the most was that I wasn’t sure if they wanted me dead or captured.
“Sussan, there’s no need…” Liam began, but surprisingly, Axel interrupted him. “Actually, that’s not a bad idea,” Axel replied, giving Liam a hard look. “White wolf or not, I won’t leave my daughter defenseless.”
“Ethan and I won’t be able to train her,” Liam frowned, and I winced at the pain that filled him. Both Liam and Ethan looked at me, “We couldn’t hurt you, doll. Someone else will have to train you.”
“I have someone in mind.” Axel nodded to himself. I took the moment of silence to speak up, “I think while we wait, we should replace out what I can do. The better we understand my abilities, the better I can use them. If I know how to control what I do, there won’t be a living werewolf immune to my abilities.”
“There aren’t many records about white wolves, sweetheart,” Ethan murmured, “When Liam and I searched, we found almost nothing.”
“Maybe you weren’t looking in the right places.” Thomas mused, his eyes lighting up. “I think I might be able to help with that.”
“Alright, then it’s settled. Liam, Axel, and I will gather our three packs. We’ll go over protection details to ensure an attack like this won’t happen again. Thomas, gather as much information as possible about what Sussan can do. Axel, have your trainer meet us at the city gym.” Ethan growled, his dark eyes simmering with restrained anger. “We won’t let Sussan train alone, no matter how much you trust your trainer. Aly will attend the training with her from now on.”
“What about the attack? Who’s going to figure out why it happened?” I asked.
“It was a rogue attack, doll. They happen, unfortunately.” Liam furrowed his brow. “Are you sure? That was terribly big for just a rogue attack.”
I inquired, “I’m not trying to make something out of nothing, but when you told me about rogue attacks before, they always seemed much smaller.”
“Sussan might have a point.” Liam and Ethan’s father interjected, “I’ll look into the rogue attack, see if I can do something about it. I’ve lived through too many attacks to overlook something like this. If there’s more to it, I’ll replace out.”
“Alright, then we’re settled.” Liam nodded, “We’ll start everything tomorrow. From now on, my brother and I need some time with our mate.”
The house emptied quite quickly after that, but the thick tension in the air hadn’t dissipated yet. I wasn’t sure if it ever would. Not only had my secret been revealed, but the deadliest men in the country were looking at me. As soon as we were alone, I was drawn into the strong arms of Liam and Ethan. They both held me tightly between them, but I couldn’t bring myself to mind. I let their scents envelop me and appreciated the brief respite from today’s events. Unfortunately, the moment they pulled away, reality came crashing down.
“I asked in a soft and trembling voice, ‘How bad was it? How many died?’ Liam reassured me with a k**s on the forehead and loving whispers, avoiding talking about death at that moment.
Ethan, with an unusually soft and hoarse voice, continued, ‘We want to appreciate you. When I saw you in danger, I couldn’t reach you. We… didn’t know what would happen.’ His words remained unfinished, but his gestures and k****s took their place, driving away the shadow of death that loomed over us.
Lost in each other’s arms, time dissolved while the dirt of the battle still covered our bodies. Yet, none of that mattered; we were safe and alive. Liam’s wound was now just a pink and irregular scar on his leg.
Later, the twins persuaded me to take a refreshing shower. I had no strength to resist, so I let them take care of me as the warm water cleaned the aftermath of the fight. Every touch, every caress, restored my strength. Liam and Ethan provided me with the support I needed.
Once clean of b***d and grime, I felt much better. Though my strength had not fully returned, I realized that with Liam and Ethan by my side, I would regain the lost energy. While Liam held me close, whispering comforting words in my ear, Ethan took care of bringing me some food. With a satisfied stomach and a lighter heart, I snuggled between the arms of my two incredible companions.
Under the shelter of the warm blanket, I held on to the warmth emanating from them, feeling safe. My eyelids became heavy, but I wanted to prolong that moment as much as possible.
Liam spoke tenderly, ‘We almost lost our minds, Sussan. You can’t do something like that again.’ I refused, looking at them firmly. ‘Tell me you wouldn’t do the same for me, tell me you wouldn’t come running if I were in danger.’
Silence filled the room, and my voice gained new strength as I spoke, ‘I know, I know.’ There she was, not the scared and shaken girl, but the Luna inside me. Strong, proud, and fiercely protecting her companions.
‘I’m determined to be prepared after this. I’ll train hard, and if something like this happens again, no werewolf will keep me from being by your side. I’ll face them all, every last one.'”
