Purchased A Mr. Right -
Chapter 1309
The whole right shoulder of Adam was covered with bruises.
The wound was much worse than she had expected. His bronze skin was swollen, and there was a bump that looked like a small hill. There was also congested blood under the surface of the skin. Adam was a military officer, and therefore he tended to suffer from different kinds of injuries all the year around. If there was a wound that made him frown, it must be a serious one.
Anthea turned her face away.
After the water vapor dissipated, she looked back.
Luckily, although Adam was hit by the broken beam, his bones were not really hurt. However, his back was still burned by the falling pieces of the beam, and it would perhaps take a long time for him to recover from the injury.
The nurse applied medicines to the wound, and then bandaged it from the shoulder to the armpit.
Anthea suddenly started.
Her eyes were fixed on his left chest.
When the nurse cut the gauze short with scissors, she had to pull the military shirt back a little, and Adam's left chest was thus partially revealed. Anthea caught sight of a scar on it.
It looked like an old scar, but it still appeared to be appalling.
There were many scars on Adam's body.
Anthea had seen his body thoroughly before when they were sleeping together. She was sure that she hadn't seen this scar on his left chest before.
When Anthea was living abroad, she had been to many remote and small countries, and even war-shattered countries. She used to operate on civilians who had been shot to take out the bullets, and therefore she could identify the scar on Adam's left chest to be the result of a gunshot wound.
It was near his heart, and was at an extremely deadly location.
Anthea wanted to take a closer look, but Adam seemed to have noticed her intention. He pulled his military shirt down to cover his left chest.
At that moment, the nurse stood up with the tray in her hand. She prescribed some medicines for Adam and said that he could go home now. The green military jeep was driving through the neon lights which shed on the street.
At this time, when the evening lights were lit, the
whole city was enveloped in the colorful night.
As Anthea and Adam were both injured, Carter was driving the jeep.
After arriving at the residential community, the two of them got out of jeep. Adam accompanied Anthea to the entrance of the building where she lived.
In the darkness, their shadows were stretched on the ground by the street lamps.
Adam's right shoulder was wrapped in gauze, and therefore was much higher than the other side. He put one hand in his pocket and said, "You don't have to worry about the will. Madam Jiles's kidnapping case has been reported to the police. They have placed this case on file and are already investigating it.
"And the Hsu family will no longer be able to occupy the properties that belong to you. It will be subject to mandatory order from the court."
Anthea nodded.
She was not somebody who treated money like dirt. She wanted money to satisfy her own needs. However, she didn't desire to inherit a huge amount of properties from Master Hsu.
At first, she just wanted to help the little patient. It was because of the little patient that she thought of the will left by her grandfather and called the lawyer.
Unexpectedly, this resulted in her being kidnapped.
It seemed that Madam Jiles was willing to do anything in order to help her son, who was as greedy as her, to rob Anthea of the properties that she deserved to inherit.
Thinking of the big fire in the afternoon, Anthea's palms were still wet.
Her heart was still fluttering with fear.
If Adam didn't show up at the last minute, she might not be able to stand here alive.
Anthea said, "Adam, thank you. If you weren't there to save me today, I would..."
Adam's deep voice interrupted her. "Anthea, it was the most fortunate moment in my life to save your life."
If Anthea lost her life...
It would be the same with killing him.
Anthea's long eyelashes fluttered. Then, she looked down and stopped at his left chest.
She couldn't see the scar through the clothes now, but she could still remember the outline and appearance of the scar.
When she went to the pharmacy to fetch the medicines, she secretly talked to Carter.
She inquired him about the gunshot wound on
Adam's left chest.
Carter told her, "That was six years ago! Not long after the two of you broke up, you went to Country M. At that time, Captain Chin was just like a madman. He devoted himself completely to military affairs and always took the lead in all dangerous missions!
"We had once gone to the Golden Zone to complete a mission. There we had to deal with drug dealers who were extremely cold-blooded. I can't tell you too much of the details because it's a military secret. At the end of our journey there, our mission was completed smoothly, and the hostages were rescued!
All the persons were evacuated safely at that time, but Captain Chin lost his lighter on the way. He insisted on turning back to look for the lighter. I advised him to buy a new one after we came back to our country, but it was useless. Captain Chin didn't follow my advice and turned back to look for the lighter...
He found the lighter finally, but he got shot on the way back. The military doctor said that the bullet was only two centimeters away from his heart. If it went a little bit further, Captain Chin would definitely be killed..."
Carter later knew that the lighter was a gift from
Anthea.
Anthea's long eyelashes hung down, flapping like the wings of butterflies.
She bit her lips. "Then I'll go up first!"
"Okay." Adam nodded. "Good night, Anthea."
"Good night!" she said.
Anthea turned around and walked straight into the apartment building.
She stepped into the entrance of the hall and suddenly stopped.
She clenched her fists and reflected upon something for a long time as if she could no longer control her emotions. After that, Anthea suddenly ran back and threw herself into Adam's arms recklessly. She nestled her face deep into his chest.
At this moment, she didn't want anything but to hug him tightly.
She held his strong waist with both hands and wished she could be embedded into his body.
How she wished...
That time could always standstill at this moment!
The refreshing night wind blew gently, and they silently embraced each other.
But after affective impulse, they still had to face the reality.
A few seconds later, Anthea closed her eyes and tenderly pushed him away.
Adam took her with his arms and pressed his thin lips onto her ear. "A little longer... Just a little longer."
Anthea was speechless.
The night was quiet, and the white smoke was scattered under the street lamps.
Carter opened the door of the jeep and jumped out after he watched Anthea's figure disappearing completely in the building. Rubbing his hands, he naughtily walked up to Adam and giggled. "Oh... My dear Captain Chin, why didn't you seize this golden opportunity? You might just go upstairs with Anthea. If so, maybe the two of you will have reconciled now. Imagine how comfortable it would be if you're lying on the bed with her..."
Adam gave Carter a deep glance.
He said nothing but silently smoked the cigarette in his hand.
Of course he wanted to do as Carter had suggested.
But he couldn't.
Carter scratched his head and closed his mouth silently.
Suddenly, the mobile phone rang. It was a phone call from the police station. Carter picked it up with a serious face. As he listened to the latest report from the police, his face gradually became a bit strange. Adam frowned and asked, "What's wrong?"
Carter hung up the phone with an expression of shock and disbelief. "Captain Chin, six years ago, your father-in-law, Master Hsu, died of a car accident. Just now the police told me that it wasn't just an ordinary car accident..."
Adam was shocked. "What did you say?!"
