Rain: Book 3 of Playing for Keeps
Chapter 9: White Dove

I stood in the bedroom door and watched Rain. She just looked out the window not moving from the rocking chair. How could White Eagle do that to her? He didn't even know her and he was hitting her and going to rape her in the driveway of the house. Right now I hate him for that. He hurt Rain. I could see from where I was standing that she had a black eye and a big bruise on the side of her face.

We did not believe in hitting women and my own brother did this. Not some stranger. I did not realize that one of my brothers could even think about hitting a woman let alone forcing himself on her like he almost did Rain. I looked up and saw Wolf standing next to me. I saw the anger on his face when he saw Rain's face. I turned and walked down the hall to the kitchen. I looked up from taking the bread out of the oven. We heard more footsteps come down the hallway and saw three of my brothers walking to their rooms.

We heard them turn and come back down the hallway. So what happened to Rain? White Eagle happened to her I said. He tried to rape her in the driveway. He did not? Yes, he did. He dragged her out of the house and hit her and ripped her shirt off her and her jeans before I could get to Wolf. Why would he do that? Because as he put it she is white trash and Beast's bitch of a woman. That's why I said.

He is in the cells right now to sober up. And mom wants to see him when he is. Mom was here? She had to put in four stitches in Rains head from White Eagle. I don't get it. Rain has not been anything but nice. Well, look at her now. He did that do her. Rain and I were having fun baking bread and pies when he slammed into the house and dragged her from the kitchen. She has not moved since mom put the stitches in.

I said, White Dove make her some soup and coffee and I will take it to her. I heard my name called 20 minutes later. The tray is ready she said. I stood up and walked over and picked it up. I carried it to her room and put it on the table. Rain, I brought you soup and coffee. I touched her arm and when she looked up at me she screamed.

I jumped back as the rocking chair flew backward and I watched as Rain ran over to a corner and slid down the wall. No, please don't touch me. I never did anything to you. Please don't hit me again. Fuck, I was not thinking. I look like White Eagle. But I am taller than he is. I watched as the tears fell from her face and then heard what the fuck.

My four other brothers had run into the room and saw her in the corner. As she turned to hide in the corner the shirt fell off one shoulder and we saw the scratches and bruises. He did that to her? Yes, he did. Leave we heard. I turned and saw mom standing in the doorway. Leave Wolf. It is you she is scared of. You look like White Eagle. I walked away and for some reason, I felt as if my heart was being ripped in two.

I walked over and said, Rain it's me, Roxie. I slowly looked up at her. Is he gone? He is but Wolf would never hurt you. No that was not Wolf I said. It was that other man he came in here. He hurt me. No that was his brother that hurt you. He is locked in a cell. Wolf brought you soup and coffee. Let me help you up. I helped Rain stand and walked her to the rocking chair. Now, why don't you eat this soup before it gets cold?

After Rain ate I walked her over to the bed and gave her a pain pill. I helped her to lay down and then covered her with a light blanket before walking out of the room. I walked into the living room and saw White Eagle sitting in a chair. I walked over and slapped his face. How dare you I said. I'm sorry mom but I was so angry about what he did to White Dove.

You were angry so you thought you would hit an innocent woman, rip her clothes off and slap her and then cause her to have stitches. At least Beast did none of those things to your sister. He did not force her to have sex with him. She did it willingly and by her choice. Rain did not do any of that to your sister.

I'm sorry mom. You're sorry. Sorry does not undo the mental damage you did to Rain. Sorry does not make things right as they were before you touched that girl. Sorry is not going to make her forget you hitting her and hurting her. Putting bruises on her body scratches on her breasts, and back along with the bruises.

I did not raise you to do those things. You took your anger out on a woman White Eagle. Not a man. You are no better than Beast is. Or any white man who does those things to a woman. Get out of my sight before I hit you again. We watched as White Eagle stood up and turned to leave but he stopped. We turned and saw Rain standing there.

Can I go home now she asked looking at my mom? I did like it here but now I want to go home. Rain why don't you take a walk and see the horses and I will come and get you or Wolf will. You remember Wolf, don't you? We watched as she turned and looked at us. Then I saw him. I started walking backward and into the wall. He hurt me I said pointing at White Eagle. Why would he hurt me? I never saw him before.

I turned and ran out the door toward the woods. I yelled her name. Rain Rain, wait. I want you out of my house White Eagle. I turned and ran out the door toward the woods chasing Rain. I ran not knowing where I was going but away from that man who hurt me. I tripped over a log and twisted my ankle. I tried to get up but pain shot up my leg.
