Chapter 87 No Accident
“What?” Eileen exclaimed.
Then, Eileen witnessed Jasper retrieving a small black velvet pouch from his pocket. From within, herevealed a stunning Blake, crescent-shaped transparent pendant. The thin silver chain it hung fromsparkled like a constellation of stars.
He approached slowly, but Eileen pushed him away. “No, I can’t accept it. It’s too valuable.”
Jasper’s gaze remained fixed on her, a hint of desolation in his voice. “Eileen, this necklace is a gift Ipersonally designed for you. Today is not only your birthday but also the anniversary of our first formalmeeting. If we are still friends, please don’t reject me, okay?”
The necklace was truly exquisite, flawless in every way. It was so beautiful that no one could resistadmiring it upon seeing it.
His gaze was intense, and Eileen simply couldn’t bring herself to reject him. In a soft voice, she said,“But I have nothing to give you.”
“No worries. I’m already very happy that you could come today.”
Eileen’s eyelashes fluttered, her hands tightly clutching the hems on both sides of her dress as shenodded.
She agreed.
Jasper constantly reminded himself not to be overly anxious and to take things slowly. Yet, he couldn’tcontrol the desire within his heart.
Jasper thought, “This girl before me is mine.”
He leaned over, personally placing the necklace around her neck. He brushed her long hair to one side, bringing him closer to her exposed, delicate, swan-like neck. Moreover, a sweet scent of strawberriesemanated from her, which he found intoxicating.
Eileen was very sensitive. Perhaps it was a sense of self-protection, but she didn’t like people. gettingtoo close to her. It could also be a trauma from her past life.
His hot breath spread across her neck, causing Eileen to shrink back a little in discomfort. “A- Are youdone? I’m a bit cold.”
“Yes.” Jasper fastened the silver clasp, and the crescent pendant rested on her chest. It was as pure asher, as luminous as the moon, much like the beam of light that illuminated him, when he was indarkness.

Unlike the sun, which was bright and blinding, the glow was subtle and gentle, capable of calming himdown. Even the darkness within his heart could be dispelled.
On the way back, there weren’t many people around. It was almost nine o’clock now.
Generally, she must be home by around half past eight, no later than nine. That was the curfew Will setfor her.
After all, as Gavin said, there were too many enemies targeting the Swan family.
She was indeed at risk when she was alone.
Seeing her lost in thought, Jasper asked, “What’s on your mind? I can speak to your uncle if you’reworried about being scolded when you return. Or are you tired? You can take a nap. I’ll wake you upwhen we arrive.”
Regaining her composure, Eileen shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Jasper noticed something off about Eileen at that moment, as if she was burdened with heavythoughts. “Did something happen to her?”
“Eileen, if you ever have any problems, feel free to come to me anytime. No matter what, I’ll always bethere to help you.”
“I…” Eileen looked at him, her clear eyes carrying an emotion that was hard to decipher. “Can I reallytell him? Can Jasper help me break free from the Swan family and forever leave that evil place?”
The Swan family was nothing but an ant in front of the Smith family. A single command from Jaspercould cause the Swan family’s downfall.
However, she wondered what would happen if he disagreed with her request. “If Will were to replace outthat I sent Jasper to deal with the Swan family, not only Will but Eric would also not let me off the hook. Then, what reason should I use to bring up this matter? The more I spoke, the more suspicious Jasperwould become. If he were to thoroughly investigate the deeds of the Swan family, it would surely be theend of them. And I will be destined to stay by Jasper’s side.”
Eileen felt it was simply not worth it for her to perish alongside Eileen.
With Eric’s ability, even without the Swan family, he could establish a footing on his own.
Eileen figured she might suffer a life worse than death.
Eric was unscrupulous and would go to any length to achieve his goals.
If she could leverage Jasper’s connections to pave her way, she could go study abroad right

after high school graduation.
She wondered if it would be better that way. For one, she wouldn’t have to wait for the annual foreignexchange student program in Hulbury.
“Jasper…” Eileen wasn’t sure how to approach the subject with him. They hadn’t spent much timetogether, and their relationship wasn’t at the stage where they could ask anything of each other.
Jasper raised an eyebrow. “Yes?”
“…” Just as Eileen was about to voice her thoughts, a blinding light suddenly shone in their direction.
“Watch out, Mr. Smith!” Fabian quickly turned the steering wheel while Richard gripped the handleabove the passenger seat tightly.
Eileen saw a several-ton truck driving toward them.
In the split second before the impending collision, Eileen thought she was about to die. She closed hereyes in fear until a strong and powerful hand pulled her away. Eileen found herself shielded beneathhim.
Jasper’s deep voice came from above. “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid.”
His voice was like a soothing balm. Eileen rested her head on his chest, listening to Jasper’s heartpounding at that moment.
In truth… he was also afraid.
Despite facing the same dangers, he, like Eric, protected her in the most perilous moments.
Eileen remembered it vividly. When she was little, the Tibetan Mastiff had lunged at her. Eric hadprotected her with his life, getting bitten in the process. Even now, deep bite marks were still visible onhis arm.
In Eric’s embrace, Eileen could hear his heartbeat. It was extraordinarily calm, steady, and rhythmic, just like always.
Eric seemed never to feel fear, no matter what he did, and no vulnerability could threaten. him.
In the past life, everyone in Hulbury knew Eric, the prestigious man who could make things happen witha flick of his hand, couldn’t care less about his wife.
Someone once joked that she lived a life even worse than the dog kept by Eric.

However, Jasper was different. His heart was beating rapidly. It seemed like he was also afraid.
“Eileen…”
Upon hearing the sound next to her ear, Eileen was pulled back from her memories.
To avoid colliding with the approaching truck, Fabian swerved and crashed into the guardrail, resultingin his million-dollar Cayenne being completely wrecked.
However, Eileen appeared to be in a state of shock, still visibly shaken.
“I’m sorry… Eileen’s fear was evident. If that large truck had actually hit them, they would have allperished. Tears began to flow uncontrollably.
Jasper’s smile faded, and cold sweat trickled down his forehead. He endured the pain and reassuredEileen, “It’s not your fault. Why are you apologizing?”
Eileen lowered her head, watching her tears fall incessantly.
She apologized because she knew it wasn’t an accident.
She knew who was responsible, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Caerulus Corporation was her mother’s life’s work, and if the company failed, her mother’s lifelongefforts would be in vain.
The impact was significant, causing Fabian’s hand to twist slightly, but it was not a serious injury.
Richard, on the other hand, sustained severe injuries, with blood streaming from the corner of hisforehead.
Inside the Audi, Vera sat in the passenger seat, cradling a large pink teddy bear, and asked, “Eric, isthere an accident up ahead?”
“I feel like I’ve seen this car somewhere before.”
