Chapter 55

Easton pulled his hand away coldly, staring at her intently. "Jennifer, to me, you're gentle and kind."

"I unconditionally believed you when you spoke ill of Natalie, which was unfair to her. But why did you have to undermine her last night?" he asked. "I..." Jennifer was momentarily at a loss for words, unsure of how to respond.

She had always criticized Natalie in front of him, and he had believed her all the time and never pushed back like this before.

"I was just angry. I was venting a little. Who knew my mom would take it seriously and blame it on Natalie?" she said.

"Easton, we've grown up together. Don't you know what kind of person I am? It's Natalie who came back and took away our happiness," Jennifer added. Easton recalled Natalie's earlier conversation with James. After his car accident, Jennifer had run off with another man, and he had never doubted her. He had believed everything she said.

"Jennifer, if you hadn't left back then, I would still marry Natalie. My grandfather only wants me to marry Natalie, the real daughter of the Simpson family," Easton said. At that time, he didn't understand love.

If his life had gone as planned, he might have ended up marrying Jennifer. But then Natalie had unexpectedly entered his life.

Easton walked away.

Jennifer was left in tears. If she hadn't left back then, Easton wouldn't have married her.

'Easton, do you even know that you were just my second choice?' she thought.

Jennifer wiped her tears away as the wind blew against her. Taking a deep breath, she repressed the pain in her heart and tried to hail a ride home.

But now, her only chance at everything she wanted lay with Easton.

'Natalie, you can't win against me, she thought to herself.

Jennifer had to replace a way to turn the tables. She needed an opportunity to make Easton completely dislike Natalie so that he would marry her instead.

On the way home, Natalie closed her eyes. No matter what, Easton's words had still hurt her deeply.

His words pierced her chest like a sharp sword, causing her immense pain.

Valerie watched her, noticing the torment on Natalie's face, and could only shake her head slightly, thinking that their marriage was a complete nightmare.

Natalie recalled their past. She remembered how she would check in on Easton every day, showering him with warmth and care.

She would remind him to have lunch and dinner, but she rarely received a response. Still, she remained undeterred, believing that one day her love would impress him.

But she was wrong. Easton was heartless; he loved no one but himself. In the end, she had only impressed herself.

She once thought she would spend her whole life with Easton, and she really did it in her past life.

But this time, she felt utterly exhausted at the beginning. Easton used to be the apple of her eye, but now she had no feelings for him at all.

It was only at this moment that she realized that even the most beautiful and profound love could run dry.

After the divorce, she felt no regrets-only a profound sense of relief. Making that decision was rooted in all her past experiences.

Now that she had decided to divorce Easton, there was no need to stay with him. She was now free, and she had envisioned countless wonderful futures for herself. 2:36 PM

She knew that all the messy situations could hold her back, but she wasn't afraid. Losing a loved one could lead to meeting someone even better.

And life wasn't just about love.

Being only twenty-four y

she deserved better.

In this relationship, she had

neve

experienced the joy of being loved or cherished.

the twenty-eight-year-old Easton. She believed

She had given her all to Easton, whom she deeply loved, only to end up losing both her life and her baby.

Natalie was someone who could love fiercely and let go. But now, looking back, she felt angry and deeply unsatisfied.

Easton had taken her affection for granted, never respecting her or caring for her feelings.

On their wedding night, after dropping her off at home, he had coldly said, "Natalie, I'm marrying you for the sake of our grandfathers, but I will never love you." After saying that, he left and later had the car accident.

For two long years, she cared for Easton, attending to him meticulously. Yet Easton only ever treated her with neglect and disdain.

Looking back, she realized she could never compete with Jennifer. A single call from Jennifer would summon Easton immediately to her side.

He would cater to Jennifer's every need, always available and attentive. Natalie thought that was

true love.

Even if she could go back in time, she would still feel the same heart-wrenching sense of being overlooked and unimportant.

Natalie took a deep breath, forcing herself not to dwell on it any longer. She was good, she was excellent, and she deserved someone who would dedicate themselves to her.

But her connection with Easton was far deeper than she had realized; she had known him for a long time, though he no longer remembered her.

Opening her eyes, Natalie saw a message from Easton. [Natalie, when you get home, I'll explain to your mom that you weren't lying about last night.]

The short sentence carried an undeniable weight. Natalie felt a mix of anger and amusement at how Shameless Easton was.

She quickly replied, [Easton, you are so shameless. Who do you think you are, you worthless jerk? Stay away from me.] After sending the message, Natalie blocked Easton.

Easton had hoped for reconciliation with Natalie, but all he received was her curse.

His expression darkened as he stared at his phone. He tried calling Natalie, dialing several times, but each call went straight to voicemail.

Frustrated, Easton tightened his grip on his phone, realizing that Natalie had blocked him again.

He glanced at their conversation history, which was stuck on the day before they signed the divorce agreement.

[Easton, your stomach isn't good, remember not to eat spicy food. I'll make your favorite beef and potato pottage tonight. Don't forget to come home for dinner.]

[Easton, it's hot today. Remember not to sit under the air conditioning; you shouldn't be in it for too long, or your head will hurt.]

He kept scrolling up, rereading the messages filled with her concern for him, but he had always taken her presence for granted.

She was clingy, and he had found it annoying; he thought he was

Id enough to take care of himself.

Now that she was gone, he felt a sense of freedom but also an unsettling emptiness.

He loved beef and potato pottage; because of that, Natalie often cooked it for him, and it was always delicious.

Easton suddenly realized that Natalie had been gone for nearly five months. During these five months, he couldn't adjust to the chef's cooking.

He often found himself thinking about Natalie's home-cooked meals, all of which he enjoyed.

As Easton looked at his phone number, which was blocked by Natalie, his face fell.

The memory of Natalie saying she would never love him again only heightened his agitation.

He glanced at Xavier, who was driving, and asked, "Xavier, have you found out where Natalie is living? It's been several days now."
