Chapter 1385 Contraption

In the basement, the Mullen family was all shocked. 'This isn't just any basement, it's a palace! they all thought.

"What a waste that such a beautiful place isn't used for living in," Carrie said regretfully.

Mr. Mullen Sr. chuckled. "Who says no one lives here? I stay here occasionally."

Carrie opened her mouth to voice her thoughts, but she hesitated. She wanted to say that as members of the Mullen family, they should all live in such a wonderful place together, instead of Mr. Mullen Sr. living here alone, only occasionally, wasting all this space. She glanced at the other members of the Mullen family, who were all gazing in amazement and regret, but no one dared to speak up about wanting to live here.

While Mr. Mullen Sr. was not looking, Kisa quickly surveyed the area.

The basement was huge. From the staircase, there was a massive hall, decorated in luxurious European style, with complete sets of furniture. The walls were adorned with famous paintings from around the world. Expensive rugs covered the floor, and crystal chandeliers filled the roof, illuminating the hall like daylight. There were three arches leading in different directions, each leading to a whole new world. Kisa took a quick look, not wanting to be too obvious

Although the sight beyond the three arches was obscured, the vastness of the area was palpable. The corners of the hall were dotted with small stone tables, each one showcasing an array of glittering jewels. The women could not help but flock to the tables to admire the stunning pieces.

Arthur cast a glance around and his attention was immediately drawn to the paintings adorning the walls. With sparkling eyes, he asked, "Grandpa, those paintings are simply breath-taking! Can I choose one as a keepsake?"

"Of course, my boy!" beamed Mr. Mullen Sr.

"Thank you so much, Grandpa!" Arthur exclaimed with delight.

His words opened the floodgates and the women eagerly rushed over to inquire about the jewelry. Mr. Mullen Sr., in a generous mood, allowed them to pick and choose to their hearts' content.

Kisa quickly took stock of the jewels on offer and was impressed to see that many of them were rare and limited-edition pieces, including a particularly valuable cat's eye stone.

As the women marveled at the jewelry, the men could not help but look around in fascination. Joe Mullen, Mrs. Mullen Sr's fourth son, was just about to wander toward an arch when Mr. Mullen St. called him back.

"Let's stick to the hall, shall we? Beyond the arches lies a maze of mechanisms, and I wouldn't want any of you to get hurt if you happen to trigger one."

Joe shuddered and quickly stepped back, his eyes wide with fear. He cautiously asked, "Dad, what's with the contraption? What's going on?"

"Oh, I had it set up for fun. Just for a bit of excitement, Mr. Mullen Sr. nonchalantly replied, lounging on the couch and twirling his cane.

Joe was speechless but dared not to say anything more.

Kisa's gaze was dark and brooding. She did not believe there was any kind of contraption. Instead, she thought that those arches were set up as traps for her.

After Mr. Mullen Sr. warned Joe, no one else in the Mullen family dared to think about venturing beyond

the archways again.

Leon asked, "Dad, what are we going to do with that crazy woman? Where do we dump her?"

"Throw her into the first room on the right-hand side of the archway," Mr. Mullen Sr. took a drag from his cigarette and said with a smirk. "Remember to close the door when you're done, so she doesn't escape. Dr. Hoover should be here soon."
