Reckless Regrets
Chapter 43

Morgan

“I don’t think that’s the best idea, babe. Tyson has no idea how to use your powers, and from the stories I was told about Lancaster’s psycho a*s dad, transferring them is dangerous,” I tried to reason with Alaia.

“That was different. Vincent Edwards was a power-hungry piece of s**t who tried to steal my powers for selfish reasons. He died because he wasn’t strong enough to handle them.”

“But didn’t your wolf say that only an alpha wolf who is pure of heart could hold the power? I guess if bears had ranks, he would be an alpha, but he’s not exactly pure of heart. He killed people for money,” I replied.

“That’s semantics. Look at the person Tyson is now; he’s completely different. And he’s strong; mind, body, and spirit. I know he can do this. How about this? How about I just transfer the dark magic blocking part; that way he’s not overloaded? Any healing that may need to take place would have to wait until they get out.”

“I like the idea, but you still don’t know how to do it,” Taylor finally chimed in.

Alaia rolled her eyes at us then let out a deep breath.

“Let’s see what Amethyst thinks, give me a minute,” she said before she shut those eyes and began internally communicating with her wolf.

A few minutes later, she looked over at the two of us with a huge smile on her face.

“I’ve got it! Let’s go,” she yelled before she shot out of the room.

“But the babies!” I said, trying to catch her, but she was already gone.

“I’ve got it,” Taylor said while sending a mind link.

A couple of minutes later, the nannies showed up, allowing the two of us to replace where Alaia had run off to. We found her in the kitchen, animatedly explaining her plan to the men.

“It’s perfect, and it’s just like when the elders loaned me the bracelet on the night of my first shift. These powers are meant for good, and Amethyst and I feel like we can do it. Don’t you guys trust me?” she asked.

“Of course, we trust you, Little One, but you’ve got to understand our reservations. Your powers killed a powerful vampire in a matter of minutes, that’s scary,” Xander said.

“I’m not explaining the whole vampire thing again. It was different! Tyson, do you trust me,” she asked.

He looked at her for a bit without saying anything. If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear he was nervous.

“The black magic The Badlands uses to keep the inmates in check and keep them from escaping, it wouldn’t affect me?” he asked.

“Not one bit. But it will only work if your intentions are pure. Getting Marisol and Gabby out of there is the goal, rescuing two innocent women. Doing anything else that could be considered selfish or immoral, or anything like that would be bad.”

“Bad how? I’m not planning anything, but I want to know what I’d be getting myself in to,” he stated.

“Well, according to Amethyst, if you try to use the powers for anything besides the rescue, you’ll start to get sick; the powers will poison you. I don’t think it would be enough to kill you, but you’d feel like s**t, and the mission would be in danger,” she replied.

“Cool. So I keep myself and the girls protected then get out; no extracurricular bullshit. I can live with that. How does it work?” he asked.

“Just a simple handshake,” Alaia stated with a smile.

“It can’t be that easy, Angel. Come on,” Alexi said.

Alaia rolled her eyes at him and sighed.

“It’s a basic b***d transfer. Small slices on our palms, then we hold a handshake for about thirty seconds. That should be enough time for that bit of my power to be passed on.”

“And how do I give it back? If I want to be an a*****e in a week, I don’t want to get sick doing it,” Tyson joked.

“You don’t; it will wear off by itself, probably in a week or so.”

“If he doesn’t give it back, then what happens with you? You can’t lose your powers, Alaia; if that’s the case, then this whole thing is out,” Xander firmly said.

“I don’t think that’s the best idea, babe. Tyson has no idea how to use your powers, and from the stories I was told about Lancaster’s psycho a*s dad, transferring them is dangerous,” I tried to reason with Alaia.

“I won’t lose them. I wouldn’t be transferring everything to Tyson, and Amethyst will still be able to warn me about dark magic. Just our senses would be a little weaker than usual, but after a week, I’ll be back to the way things are now.

This is the perfect solution, and it guarantees that our family is reunited when this is over. I refuse to let someone I love go into that hell hole without doing all I can to protect them. Tyson, you’re taking my powers, and you’re going to protect yourself so that you come back to Taylor and the babies in one piece. Got it?”

Tyson frowned his face at her tone but nodded none the less.

“Yes, I’ve got it.”

“Yay! I’m so excited,” Alaia squealed as she pulled him into a hug.

“Should we do this now or tomorrow?” Kade asked.

Alaia leaned back and looked up at Tyson.

“Which do you prefer? It may take a little while for your body to get used to the powers, so I’d say we do it now. That way, you’ll be good to go tomorrow when you leave,” she told him.

He bent down and kissed the top of her head.

“We can do it now. I want to have as much time as I can to acclimate. Plus, if I have a bad reaction, I’m not trying to be sick in The Badlands, that would not be a good look.”

“Let’s sit down to dinner, then afterward, we can take care of the power transfer,” Xander suggested.

We all agreed and made our way to the dining room. On the way, I took Taylor’s hand and squeezed it.

“You know how much he loves you and the babies. Tyson will do whatever it takes to get in and out in on piece. You two have got a lot of living left to do,” I told her.

“I know you’re right, but I’ll still worry. And I know who I married, Tyson always has to be the hero, it’s just who he is. But I’m so grateful that I have Matt here to keep me grounded, or I’d lose my mind.”

“You’re a lucky woman for sure. With these hormones raging, that blonde beauty of yours is getting sexier and sexier by the minute,” I teased.

“I heard that, Sugar Bear,” Kade said with a big frown in his face.

“I heard it too, and thank you. Pregnancy suits you because you look gorgeous,” Matt said with a wink.

“Hey! What the hell?” Kade yelled.

“I remember a dinner not too long ago when I found out my mate thought your neck tats were sexy, and you wouldn’t shut the hell up about it. Payback is a bitch.”

Taylor and I then sat back and laughed, watching the two of them half-heartedly go back and forth with each other. I loved our family dinners.

“How do you feel about all of this? I know Marisol drove you crazy at first, but it seems like you managed to become friends. Are you okay that you’re not the one going in to rescue her?” I asked Kade.

After dinner, we grabbed a few good bottles of wine, juice for me, and moved to the backyard where we lit the fire pit and sat around making s’mores and drinking. Kade and I were snuggled up on a big lawn chair under a thick blanket, completely tuning out the world around us.

Tomorrow we’d replace out about the s*x and overall health of our baby, Tyson would leave to The Badlands, and Kade would go back to Canyon Woods for a couple of days to make sure things were still running smoothly. So, we wanted to make the most of the night.

“I’m okay with it. You have to play to your strengths first of all, and second, I can’t leave the Canyon Woods wolves for any longer. I’m needed on the outside, and Tyson can blend like a chameleon inside that place. It would be stupid of me to try and do it all just because I’m in the middle of everything. We’ve got a team for a reason, and we help each other out.”

“I agree. I just wanted to be sure. I would have stroked your ego some and told you how much stronger and manlier you were than Tyson if you needed me to, though,” I said.

“Don’t lie to that dude, Mo!” Tyson yelled from his spot by the fire.

“Oh, f**k off, man!” Kade replied.

I heard the group laugh, and I couldn’t help but smile while Kade kissed my nose then gave me a sly smirk.

“My ego is alright, but there’s another part of me that wouldn’t mind some stroking,” he said.

“Eww! Okay, that’s enough of that, you two. We’re about to do the transfer, so save the stroking for later when you’re in your damn room,” Alaia interrupted.

“I like where your heads at, handsome. So, let’s get this power transfer going, then we can get to stroking, sucking, and everything else we’ve been missing out on,” I told him.

He jumped to his feet and pulled me up before rushing to the fire pit.

“Let’s hurry this s**t up, guys. Me and Sugar Bear have things to do,” he rudely announced.

I elbowed him in the ribs.

“Don’t be a d**k, babe; this is important,” I said.

“Sorry, Sugar. You’re right.”

After everyone finished sending Kade evil glares, Alaia picked up the dagger she’d bought out with her and held it out to him. He just looked at it, confused.

“What do you want me to do with that, Bean?”

“Take it and cut our palms. The dagger has been purified, and we need a pure-hearted Alpha to open the lines for the powers to flow.”

“But what about Xander?” he asked.

“Xander is still on my s**t list,” she quickly responded.

Xander sighed and put his hands on his h**s, but didn’t say anything. Smart man. I nudged Kade forward, and he reluctantly took the knife and stepped between Alaia and Tyson.

“You can’t mess this up, I promise. Just two thin slices, then Amethyst and I will take care of the rest,” Alaia reassured him.

Kade nodded his head and took Alaia’s left hand in his. It looked like he barely touched her as the blade passed over her skin, but it was just enough for the b***d to start to flow. He did the same to Tyson, and once he finished, the two joined hands. I was never one for patience, and 10 seconds in, I wanted an update.

“How does it feel? Do you feel any different yet?” I pestered my cousin.

“Shut it, Mo,” he flippantly replied.

“Whatever,” I mumbled.

Kade smiled at me then wrapped me in a hug while we all waited. When the 30-second countdown ended in my head, I let out a loud huff. As soon as I did, I saw Tyson’s entire body tremble like he’s just gotten hit with a cold chill. He opened his eyes, but they looked the same. They were still hazel like mine.

What the hell?

“Did it work? You don’t look any different,” I told him.

“I don’t know; I feel the same, no sickness or anything. Maybe it doesn’t work on bears,” Tyson said as he let Alaia’s hand go.

“Let’s test the theory out,” Matt walked over and said.

“Catch,” Matt stated as he tossed a small black pouch to Tyson, who smoothly snatched it out of the air.

“What’s this?” he asked, looking down into his hand.

Matt bent down a bit to get a better look at Tyson’s face, then nodded.

“Confirmation. It’s a warlock satchel we’ve kept in the pack library for years. Apparently, there are still traces of magic because your eyes are purple and glowing like signal flares. I think the transfer worked.”

Tyson lifted his head and looked at Taylor.

“That’s freaky as hell, but in a way, kinda sexy too,” she replied.

The look they gave each other said that things were about to get real hot, real quick.

“Everyone, go to bed! What you do in those beds, I don’t care, but get the hell out of here now. I can’t have my pack thinking the ranked members have regular bonfire orgies in the f*****g back yard,” Xander told us.

Kade gave Xander a quick salute and scooped me up into his arms and began to run towards the house.

“With the way I’m feeling tonight, we won’t be using the bed. You ready for this, Sugar?” he looked down and asked me.

“I’m always ready when it comes to you.”
