Reckless Regrets
Chapter 57

Kade

I enjoyed catering to Morgan and feeding her and our child. While I put together her food, I’d only wished that I would have had the ability to do this from the beginning. There was nothing that I wouldn’t do for the two of them.

“I’m moving forward with the bakery plans. Luca is coming over later to work on my logo idea with me. My head is all over the place, and I don’t really know what I want, so hopefully, he can take my scattered ideas and put them together into something presentable,” Morgan said as she watched me.

“As I said before, Luca is a wild one, but he’s going to kill this logo for you. Besides pulling women, graphic design is what he’s best at.”

Morgan laughed and c****d her head at me.

“Is he better at pulling women than you were?” she asked.

I stopped dressing her sandwich and looked back at her. “Well, that’s not fair, Sugar. Luca has a major advantage; I was just using my charm and good looks, but he has those plus a family curse. Nobody can compete with that,” I reasoned.

“So, you got turned down often?”

“What did I ever do to deserve this treatment? Turned down? Never. On occasion, a woman might have had other more pressing engagements, but I was never turned down.”

She laughed out loud, and I went back to what I was doing. Did I get turned down? Hell yes, I did. If the chick wasn’t ranked, I went for her. I was testing my skills, and I walked away empty-handed plenty of times. Morgan’s laugh told me that she knew I was full of s**t too.

When I was finished, I passed her plate over and sat beside her while she ate and talked about plans for the future. She had so many ideas and hopes and dreams, and I wanted to make all of them a reality. A few weeks ago, she thought she no longer had a future with me, and to see how excited she was for it now was everything I’d ever wanted.

“I think I’d like to sit you on this island and eat you with the same enthusiasm that you’re eating that sandwich,” I told her out of the blue.

The statement caught her off guard, and she choked on a chip she’d just put into her mouth, making me laugh. When she could breathe again, she turned her head in my direction and smiled.

“You’re a filthy boy Kaden Thomas, and I love it. As a chef, I’m appalled by the idea of two people f*****g on a heavily used cooking surface, but as a horny, hormonal, pregnant woman, I’m all for it. Get naked now!”

“Do. Not! Do that!” Taylor yelled as she rounded the corner.

She was holding her head and looked like walking death. It didn’t look like her body appreciated the drinks she’d had after all. I would guess that Alaia would probably look the same way at breakfast.

“Tay, you have the worst timing, I swear,” Morgan complained.

“Maybe I do, but Tyson just got home, and I need to see him. The quickest way to the house is through here and out the back door, so excuse me,” she replied.

“Do you want me to walk you? I don’t want you to get lost on the way,” I joked.

“I’m fine, well I will be once I see that he’s alright. You stay here and make good on that promise you just threw out there. But not in the kitchen, what is wrong with you two?” Taylor asked me.

“Oh please, you’re about to go over there and f**k the life out of my cousin, then revive him just to do it all over again. Don’t look at us like you’re any better,” Morgan replied.

“Yes, I’m going to do just that. But the difference is that Tyson and I are the only ones who use that kitchen.”

She waved her hand as she walked out the back door and over to reconnect with her husband. I stood up and leaned over Morgan’s body, ready to devour her when I heard someone clear their throat behind me.

What the f**k was going on tonight? It was past 2:00 in the god damned morning, and everyone was up cockblocking. I turned around and saw Gabby standing behind Henry, who had his usual embarrassed look on his face.

“I’m sorry for interrupting, but Ms. Gabby needs to be escorted to a room for the night, and the Luna is not answering her link. Should I wake the Alpha?” he asked.

Morgan leaned over and kissed my lips then walked around me to where the unwelcome guests were standing.

“It’s fine, Henry; I’ll take care of her. Hi Gabby, I’m Morgan, I’m the Gamma female,” she stated.

“I’m sorry to disturb you, Gamma. I know you’re probably anxious to get back to your mate. Thank you so much for letting him come rescue Marisol and me,” Gabby replied.

“Oh, God, no! Tyson is the Gamma, but he’s not my mate; he’s my cousin. My friend Taylor, who happens to be our Beta, is Tyson’s wife. Kade is my fiancé,” she stated, pointing back to me.

Gabby looked confused; then, it hit her.

“Ohh, Morgan! Now I remember, I’m sorry, I’ve had a rough few days. Hi, Kade,” she said as she smiled and waved at me.

“Hey, Gabs. How are you feeling?”

“Drained, mentally, and physically. I don’t know when I’ll feel like myself again, to be honest.”

“How about we start with a hot shower and a soft, comfortable bed? Then a big breakfast in the morning?” Morgan asked as she led Gabby out of the kitchen.

I heard their voices trail off as they got further away and knew that my dirty plans for the evening were probably canceled.

“Hey, Henry. I sent Aires to your place right after she got back. Her eyes were close to being completely red, so I knew she only had a few minutes until the bloodlust kicked in,” I told him.

“Thank you; I’ll go check on her now and make sure she’s doesn’t need anything,” he replied.

He was then out the back door and sprinting to the village where he and Aires lived.

I was sure that she was alright; we hadn’t heard any screams of terror from anyone being drained of their b***d, so that told me that she’d made it home and was able to feed successfully. But that wouldn’t stop Henry from worrying about her. She was his sunflower, after all.

I cleaned the empty plate and wiped down our spot on the counter before heading up to my room to wait for Morgan. I figured that she would probably take a little while to show Gabby where everything was and make sure she was comfortable before coming to bed herself. I crawled into bed to wait, and soon, I was out cold.

Why didn’t the world want me to get off? I was in a serious, committed relationship, so why were people popping up trying to keep Kade and me from getting down and nasty? I didn’t think I’d ever know, but as I watched Gabby timidly walk around the guest room I’d taken her to, I temporally put my l**t fulled thoughts aside.

“Marisol is right across the hall in case you were wondering. The cut on her foot was infected with black magic, but Alaia cleaned it up. Marisol should be up for breakfast later on today, but if not, she should definitely make lunch,” I said.

I knew that Gabby knew Kade and now Tyson, but her best friend trumped both of those guys combined. I felt that if she knew that Marisol was safe and close by, she too would feel safe.

“Will she be okay? She was so weak when she was taken away; I didn’t think she’d make it.”

“Marisol should make a full recovery, but the pack doctor will make sure before she goes back home,” I answered.

“Home. I don’t even know if I can consider that place home anymore. Not after what happened to me there,” Gabby sadly said.

“It was one person, not the entire pack. And besides, you’re all Blue Moon now, so nothing like that will ever happen again. Did you want to talk to your dad? I know Kade said that he’d been worried sick, and I know he would love to hear your voice,” I offered.

“Could I? I miss him so much. My dad raised me all by himself after my mom died, and we’ve been extremely close ever since. I can’t imagine what he’s gone through replaceing out what his so-called best friend did to me,” Gabby replied.

“There’s a phone on the nightstand. I’ll leave you to it, but if you need anything, just ask any of the omegas you may see mulling around, and they will get you taken care of. Have a good night.”

Gabby smiled at me, then quickly snatched up the phone. As I shut the door behind me, I heard her sniffle into the receiver.

“Hi, Daddy. I’m safe, and I miss you so much.”

I was happy Gabby’s story had a happy ending; she seemed like a sweet girl who didn’t deserve anything that had happened to her. But then, did anyone deserve The Badlands?

When I woke up the next morning, Morgan was lying next to me with her head resting on my chest. I didn’t feel when she’d come to bed but was amazed that our bodies still found their way to one another. Looking at the time, I noticed that it was 7:30 already, so I was sure the house was already buzzing with activity.

I slid from the bed and into the shower before I made my way up to Xander’s office. The night before, Tyson found out that he was the guardian of three fertilized dragons eggs, and I wanted to see them up close.

I knew that they would most likely be locked up in Xander’s safe and just hoped that they hadn’t already been put away while I was asleep. I walked in and thanked my lucky stars. The guys were standing around the desk, looking down into a small basket filled with what appeared to be cotton balls and the eggs.

“Sweet! They’re still here. So what’s the plan for these things? Do you think we can keep one? How badass would that be if we had our own dragon?” I excitedly stated.

“Sorry to ruin the fantasy, but we’re not keeping a f*****g dragon, Kade. I checked with the elders, and what Blaze said is true: they’ll only hatch if incubated by a female dragon, so we’re safe there. But these things will be returned as soon as possible,” Xander firmly replied.

“That’s boring,” I said as I reached out and gently picked one up.

It was so smooth it felt polished and weighed about five pounds. And the heat radiating off it was intense. This was one of the coolest things I’d seen in a while.

“So, what’s the plan for them?” I asked.

“I was hoping we could give them to the elders and let them deal with keeping them safe,” Tyson suggested.

“That won’t work. The elders protect wolves and members of wolf packs only. If we gave these eggs to them and Cervantes found out, he could walk right into the elder council and take them with no resistance. The council wouldn’t risk their life for a creature that wasn’t ‘theirs,’” Matt replied.

“So, what? I’m stuck with these things now?” Tyson asked.

“It looks like it. A ranked member of my pack was entrusted with keeping these eggs secure until they could be returned to safety. That means that it’s all of our jobs to make sure that happens. So study up, gentlemen, the five of us are officially dragon egg babysitters,” Xander announced.
