As the night wore on, Tessa found herself turning and tossing in bed, her eyes red rimmed. The soft cries of the boys echoed through the house mingled with rustling of leaves and distant howls of wolves outside. She stood up knowing that sleep had evaded her with the amount of noise around her as she tried to calm the babies down by singing a lullaby.

Each whimper from her children were like a dagger to her heart, reminding her of the pain and struggles to bring them to this world.

With a heavy sigh. Tessa ran a hand through her hair, her weary eyes scanning the dimly lit room. The flickering candle on the bedside table cast long shadows across the walls, adding to the sense of unease that hung in the air.

Outside, the night was alive with the sounds of the forest, a symphony of rustling leaves and nocturnal creatures. But amid the cacophony of nature, it was the plaintive cries of her children that rang loudest in Tessa’s ears, tugging at her heartstrings and refusing to let her rest. Why did it seem like nothing was going right in her life.

Tessa groaned and heaved a sigh of relief when the babies cries reduced to cooing and all became silent. She silently thanked the gods as she checked on them and kissed their foreheads slightly.

Tessa struggled to get back into her bed, her legs trembling as she sat on the edge, a now familiar ache thumping silently in her head. Just as she was on the verge of despair, she heard a familiar voice call out to her from the darkness. It was Gabe, his voice sounding urgent, Tessa hurriedly got out of bed and went to Gabe in the shed.

As she stepped into the shed, Tessa found Gabe and someone else waiting for her, his expression grave and solemn. Without preamble, he began to speak, his words heavy with meaning and import.

Tessa eyes examined the young man beside Gabe, he was a pale looking man with a slightly small build and a solemn look on his small face.

Gabe wiped sweat off his brow and pointed to the man beside him.

“This is Dylan, an omega in Night walker pack” Gabe said, his voice low

Tessa looked Dylan over, she knew him alright. Night walker was an ally to silver moon pack.

“What’s going on?” She asked forcing a smile to Dylan who was giving her a curious look.

“Wait, you’re the rejected….” Dylan began to say.

“Silent” Tessa said, her voice a tad higher as she gazed at Dylan with a deadly look.

He furrowed his brows and kept shut. Gabe rolled his eyes annoyed.

“Tessa, Night walker pack needs me urgently this night so I won’t be able to deliver the moonbloom to Starflame pack, I need you to go in my stead” He pleaded.

Tessa folded her arms, her wolf was making joyful noises at the mention of going on a hike to somewhere else.

“Why can’t Dylan here go?” She asked.

Gabe ran a hand through his dishevelled hair.

“Tessa, Starflame and Nightwalker pack aren’t exactly on good terms, it’d be sucide for Dylan to tread on enemy soil besides I trust you. Please Tessa, this is really important” He pleaded.

Tessa felt her heart give out to Gabe pleas and she mumbled a few words on how she didn’t want to but she agreed

nonetheless.

“Who’s going to stay with the kids?” She asked before Gabe could hurry away.

“You have kids?” Dylan asked incredulously.

“Dylan, the kids on you” Gabe yelled into the night before running off, a satchel in his hands containing herbs.

Tessa shot back to look at Dylan who was yawning.

“Keep them safe because if anything happens to them, you’ll regret it” She warned nervous about leaving them behind with a total stranger.

He smiled reassuringly at her.

“They are in safe hands” He assured.

Tessa blew out a deep breath and got ready, stuffing the moonbloom and some herbs inside a large bag and slung it on her shoulder.

“Take care” Dylan called gruffly after her.

She set out towards Starflame pack which was some hours journey from where she stayed, the journey was arduous and filled with trepidation and she feared meeting a rogue but as she neared the territory gate, a sense of determination filled her, she would face whatever life threw at her.

As she entered the main pack’s gathering area just as the sun rose up, she was met with wary glances and guarded expressions. They eyed her with suspicion but she couldn’t blame them, after all they were at the wake attacks by rogue wolves.

She ignored them and made her way towards the center of the gathering where Alpha Magnus stood with sentinels surrounding him. Would he recognize her after so long? She remembered seeing him at one of the meetings at silvermoon pack.

Alpha Magnus gaze fixed on her with a mixture of curiosity and distrust. Of course, he wasn’t expecting her.

“Who are you?” He asked, his voice echoing with authority, the pack members were maintaining a reasonable distance from

her.

“I’m Tessa” she said respectfully bowing, she struggled to keep her voice steady despite the nervous fluttering in her chest.

“I have come on behalf of Gabe, the healer.”

Alpha Magnus’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Where is Gabe?” he asked, his tone tinged with suspicion.

“He had an appointment with another pack,” She explained, hoping to reassure him of her intentions. “He sent me in his stead to deliver the Moonbloom.”

Alpha Magnus studied her for a moment, his eyes searching hers for any sign of deception. After a tense silence, he nodded in acceptance.

“Very well,” he said, his voice gruff but not unkind. “Follow me.”

As we walked deeper into the pack’s territory, She couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.

He led me into the pack palace and motioned for a sentinel to get the medic to collect the moonbloom from her. While waiting, he asked her to sit which she did.

“You look awfully familiar” he noted, his grey eyes looking her over.

She looked away and was about to answer when there was a loud noise to her right and a commotion.

Tessa was alarmed at the sudden change in atmosphere and the crowd forming round something while someone shouted for the medic, Alpha Magnus had rushed to the scene already and Tessa could feel her heart thump in her chest. Her heart clenched in her chest at the figure lying motionless on the ground- it was a child, his young face, pale and drawn with pain.

No, no he couldn’t die was all she could think about and she rushed over and pushed her way through. With fumbling hands, she struggled to remember the flowers Gabe had explained to her the previous day and their uses while searching through her satchel.

What was it? – comfrey!. Her hands worked fast as she pulled a jar labeled comfrey from her satchel and tore out a piece of the flower and fed the boy quickly.

Slowly but surely, color returned to his cheeks, his breathing steadied, and his eyes fluttered open.

The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, their joy and relief washing over me like a wave. Alpha Magnus stepped forward, his expression filled with gratitude and awe.

“You’ve saved my son’s life,” he said, his voice choked with emotion. “For that, you have my eternal gratitude.”

She looked at the crowd looking at her with awe and new found respect. She quickly put the jar of moonbloom into the arms of the medic who had just arrived after a long run.

She bowed quickly to the alpha and left. She felt great to know that she had saved someone and given him a second chance. She was no healer but she had given someone life again all thanks to the goddess and Gabe.
