Paris’ POV

I am looking at Walker walking up and down in my room. We have not sealed our bond yet, and I have not become his mate. It feels like I have known him for years. I can tell he is worried, and I am sure it is not because of his first mate. He told me all about Cecelia. Wallis is gone to see his mate, and according to Walker, it is one of Walker’s generals who had a crush on him for a few years. Her name is Lindsey. I don’t know if I am comfortable with her around my mate since she tried to use magic on him for a while, but I trust Walker as he is a strong wolf and will tell me if she is trying anything again. I hope, for the sake of Wally, that she is not using him to make Walker jealous. I don’t know if I can trust her, since a she-wolf willing to use magic to get a fake mate bond can not be trusted.

“So who will we send to fetch, London and the rest?” I ask. I don’t know if I should tell the King, and how we will explain to everyone in the Kingdom that there are two Princesses that look the same. How will they know who to follow and who will be their next Queen?

“I do not know yet. We will need to tell your grandfather, so he can prepare the people of the Kingdom that there are two Princesses and that you are the oldest,” Walker says.

“Yeah, but we need to send someone strong to fetch London, and the rest before Maren and the soldiers get to them. I don’t think Maren is strong enough to take on my father, but will my father be able to fight his mate? Maybe I should go. We also know why John and Oliver never came to discuss the upcoming wedding. We need to get everyone safe before we can think of another plan to take down John and Oliver. I need to get to my sister and brother and save them,” I say.

“No, I can not dare to put your life in danger. I can not leave as my men need me here. I will never let you go alone, Paris. I can not let you get in the hands of John and Oliver,” Walker says.

“We will go,” Wallis says from the door. A beautiful young she-wolf stands next to him, and I see the fresh mark on her neck. She is smiling from ear to ear, and Walker looks amused.

“So, I see you were telling the truth for once, Lindsey. Wallis is your mate. I am glad the two of you found each other,” Walker says, smiling at Wallis and Lindsey. I look at Wallis, who is also smiling.

“Congratulations, you two. I am so happy for you, Wally. Now we only need to replace Jeff a mate,” I say.

“No, thank you. Mates are only trouble. Look at poor Wallis. He looks like an i***t with that smile on his face,” Jeffrey says. I can hear that he is a little jealous. For the first time, I wonder why Jeffrey does not have a mate.

“Well, I will feel happy if you and Wallis go, Lindsey. You and Wallis are great fighters, and I know you will keep London and her mate safe. We will meet you at the airport. Jeffrey needs to stay with Paris as she needs protection, and I can not be with her during the day. King George’s men will give their lives for her as they all love her to bits. Paris is safe, and I will like to keep it that way. You can not go out of the palace grounds no matter what happens. Do you know where London and Nathan are?” Walker asks everything in one sentence, and he orders me around!

“First of all, I can protect myself. You have seen me fight, and you know I am a warrior. Secondly, do not order me around. We may be mates, but it does not give you the right to order me around! Thirdly, I know where my sister and her mate are, but we will need to bring all of them here. We need to get everyone safe, even my father, whom I do not like. I know Maren is sneaky, and we can not trust her one bit,” I say.

“Well, tell your grandfather what we found out and ask him if we can use his jet to send Lindsey and Wallis to America. We need to get there before Maren, and the soldiers of Oliver and John can try anything. It would be best if you told him everything. Why John and Oliver did not come to talk about the wedding and that it looks like there will be no peace talks as Oliver and John are planning to use his granddaughter to try and get his Kingdom,” Walker says.

“See, you are ordering me around again,” I say. I am not too happy about it. I do not like bossy mates.

“Paris, honey, I am not ordering you around. I am asking you to do as I say, because we do not have time to waste. I promise you once we are mates, we will be equal, but for now, you will have to listen to me,” Walker says, and I know he is right. I need to do as he says, as we do not have time. Luckily, Maren does not know where London and Nathan are. America is big. Walker asks me where London and Nathan are. They are in a house that Nathan is renting from a friend. The city near my old pack is enormous, and it will take anyone a while to replace London and Nathan, and I know my mother will be looking for the scent of my father, brother, or me. Finding a scent in a city will also be challenging, as there are many people, werewolves, and other creatures around. They were no longer in London’s apartment as my mother knew where they were, and London did not want to take a chance of her getting to our brother. London, Nathan, Ben, my father, and the guards moved out when they knew Maren was busy elsewhere. As we are too far away, we can not mind-link, but we keep in touch via cell phones.

“Fine. I am sorry, I am a bit sensitive about people ordering me around as everyone in my old pack used to order me around,” I say. I walk out of my room to go and talk with the King. The King and Queen are in the sitting room playing chess. I look at the chess board and see the Queen can win in one move. I walk over and make a move.

“Checkmate,” I say, and the King looks at me with a frown.

“Unfair! You helped your grandmother win me,” The King says with a smile. I know he was trying to let her win, as he still loves her very much. Everyone can see the love the King and Queen have for each other. I quickly tell the King about our dilemma and how we discovered what Oliver and John are up to. He immediately orders his pilots to get the private jet ready, and Wallis and Lindsey leave as soon as the plane is ready. Walker and his men are keeping Oliver, John, and their men busy, so they do not know that the Kingdom’s private jet took off for America. The Kingdom has its own airfield, and we will be waiting there as soon as Wallis and Lindsey return with London and the rest. I don’t know why we left them there in the first place. We should have all returned to England in the first place, but we did not know what the King would do if London showed up with a mate and I was the true heir. Now we know that the King knew everything anyway.

I know the next few days are going to be nerve-wracking. We will have to keep Oliver and John busy for a while. The King is the one that came up with the idea of keeping everyone engaged. He is going to have a masked ball and invite all the royals of all three kingdoms. He will say it is to have peace talks, and Sussex will be the mediator for the peace talks between Essex and Mercia. Of course, John and Oliver can not refuse. I wonder if Oliver will bring his mate.

“Oliver will bring his mate. It is a masked ball, and he wants her close to him,” Walker says the few nights before the ball. He will attend as my mate as no one will know who he is as he will be wearing a mask.

“We need to get her alone and kidnap her. If they can play the game, so can we. We can keep her as insurance if Meran gets to London before we do,” I say. Walker looks at me and nods. I know Meran will follow London and the rest of our friends and my family to England and we can not take any chances with Meran around. She is bad news and she can manipulate wolves and humans as she pleases. I know she is beautiful, but I do not understand how anyone can fall for her tricks.

“It is a great idea, but I can not come near her as she might recognize me by my smell as her first mate,” Walker says. I forgot about that, as she and Walker were mates. They will be able to smell each other and Cecelia may tell her second-change mate that her first mate is there and that his name is Walker Brooks. She will also know what Walker looks like and give Oliver a description of Walker. Oliver only knows Walker’s wolf, like the rest of the kingdom and a few others that he trusts enough to reveal himself to. Luckily, everyone will be wearing masks, so if she does smell him she will not know who he is. We are waiting patiently for Lindsey or Wallis to call us and tell us they are with London and the rest and that they are safe. We can not attack Oliver or John on the night of the masked ball as King George gave his word that everyone’s safety is guaranteed and that no attacks will happen. He and his guards will also ensure that everyone is safe. Our main priority is to get London and the rest safely into the castle where we can protect them against Oliver and John. After we have them safely in the castle, we can think of a plan to take Mercia and its King and Prince down for good. They are not true royals and I still need to replace out how the Brooks family became royals and started the Kingdom of Mercia.

“Maybe we must try and get London and the rest into the castle the night of the ball. It would be easy to get them inside the castle without anyone noticing them,” I say.

“They can land the night of the ball and no one will be the wiser as everyone will be busy at the ball. We can get a limo to pick them up and everyone will think they are guests,” Jeffrey says.

“We need to get a hold of Wallis or Lindsey and tell them to get London and the rest, back to England the night of the ball,” Walker says. We get to work and Lindsey is the first to answer her phone. She says they are on their way to the airport and they have everyone with them. Meran tried to follow London and their father but they lost them in traffic. They suspect she will be waiting for them at the airport but they landed at a smaller airport outside town and are there on their way now. They let Meran and her men astray by first pretending to go to the big airport. Meran will realize her mistake when she does not see the Kingdom’s jet at the big airport, so she will go to the smaller one, but hopefully they will be gone by then. The ball is in two days and we tell Lindsey and Wallis to hide London and the rest in England until the night of the ball. Walker will send more men to the airport to make sure they are safe and get to a safe place. We stay on the phone with Lindsey until they are safely in the air. We are all relieved, but I know Meran will follow them to England and she will be on the next flight leaving for England. London and Nathan are on their way home and I can not wait to see her, Ben and Nathan. I am not so sure about my father, but I am relieved that he is with them to protect them against Meran. Meran knows where the Kingdom airport is and she and her men can wait if they can get to England before London and the rest do. Maybe when she realized they were not at the airport she had already got on a flight to England and that meant that London and the rest left after Meran did. We will have to have a big army at the airport when London and the rest arrive.
