Chapter 35

Third person’s POV

With a few of her witches’ friends as backup, Mariam and Jonathan stand on the mountain looking at the two older shamans a few feet from them. The shamans have detected their presence and look scared as they look at Mariam. They can feel she has a magical wolf as they have, but her wolf feels more potent than theirs. Mariam smiles at the two old shamans and walks closer to them. Aldo and Dakota tremble as they see the smile on Mariam’s face. They know what is coming, and they do not like it. They should not have come to England with Cecelia, but Cecelia promised them they could get revenge on Walker for kicking them out of their pack. She also promised them that they could join the Kingdom of Mercia and that she would make sure her new mate would accept them. They are not ready to fight a powerful witch for Cecelia. They are both cowards, which is why they ran away when they realized their pack would be attacked all those years ago. If only Walker did not chase them out when they returned and asked to join the pack again.

“What do you want with us, witch?” Dakota asks.

“I want you to protect yourselves against me,” Mariam says with a smile.

“You come with an army of witches to fight two shamans?” Aldo asks as he looks at the creatures standing behind Mariam.

“They are just backup in case you are stronger than I think. I will fight you alone,” Mariam says. She knows she is stronger than the two shamans. She can feel it, and her wolf can not wait to fight them.

“What if we are stronger than you? Will your witches kill us?” Dakota tries to buy some time. She can not mind-link for help and always uses her cell phone to contact Cecelia. She can not take out her cell phone now to warn Cecelia. Mariam is fast and moves so fast that Dakota and Aldo do not see her coming. She grabs the cell phones from Dakota and Aldo as she does not want them to warn the other weaker shaman, Cecelia. She smashes the cell phones against a tree and smiles.

“My witches will kill you if you are stronger than me, but we all know you are not. You are too slow to be stronger than me,” Mariam laughs. Her hair is glowing red as she gets ready to use her magic. She wants to attack the two shamans and get them out of the way so that the rest of the wolves of the Kingdom can begin their plan to take over Oliver and John’s army and free the hostages. She will do anything for the new King and Queen as she also believes in the legend that they will become their saviors. She and Elena have been waiting for the day that the three Kingdoms will be united and the tale of the new Kingdom can come true. They have always hoped it would be in their time, and the Moon Goddess heard their prayers. The day has come. Today, they will be freed from John and Oliver, and the last Kingdom will become part of the new Kingdom of Wessex. Mariam is ready to play her role in the new history they are about to make.

The shamans start chanting. Mariam smiles as she can feel their attack on her. It is obvious that they are not strong at all. She can block their magical attacks easily but knows they are still afraid to attack her. Her hair is glowing bright red now as she absorbs their magic. She will play with them until she has taken most of their charm and can use it against them. She will lead them to believe they are more powerful than they think and give the two shamans false hope. Mariam laughs by herself as she watches the shamans chant harder, making their spells more powerful. The wolf helps her get their magic. Jonathan is getting worried. Why is Mariam not fighting back? He wants to help her and kill the shamans, but their magic prevents him from interfering in the fight.

“Don’t worry, mate,” Mariam says to Jonathan as she can see he is trying hard to break the spell the shamans have put on him. It does not help him and will only take away his strength. He is not a magical creature and can not fight magic. The shamans are so busy with their magical attack and concentrating on two places that they do not hear the exchange between Mariam and Jonathan. Mariam knows this will help them immensely, as she can not mind-link with Jonathan as she is not part of the Kingdom yet. She knows she will become part of the Kingdom as soon as she becomes Jonathan’s mate. Mariam is not in a hurry, though, as she also knows that the King and Queen will make her part of the Kingdom anyway. Jonathan can suffer a while longer for his sins. She can not forgive him so easily.

Mariam can feel herself and her wolf getting stronger as she absorbs more of the magic the two old shamans send her way. The more powerful she gets, the more her red hair glows brighter. Mariam loves feeling so powerful from the magic. She also has two vendettas to settle before she can be free to join the Kingdom and give all her power and magic to the King and Queen to use. First, she wants to replace her father and his family, who rejected her mother and tried to kill her mother. For years her father has been looking for them, and she knows if he found them, he would want to kill her. Her mother is safe with the she-wolves that are her friends now. She knows her father’s mate wants her mother dead, and she also knows that her mother, the she-wolf she admires so much, is still in love with her father. The next one Mariam wants to take out is her first mate. His name is Brian, and he has been chasing after her for years as he feels he made a mistake. Mariam does not want him anymore as she likes Jonathan more, and Jonathan does not judge her about her heritage as half-witch, half-werewolf. He accepted her for what and who she was. She looks at Jonathan, who is still trying to escape the magical powers of the two shamans. He wants to protect her, and for the first time, Mariam knows what it feels like to have a mate who wants and protects her. For years it was only her and her mother against the world, and her mother would do anything to protect her. Then Elena came into their lives, and she felt for the time what it felt like to be part of something similar to a pack. She and the she-wolves helped Elena for years to protect Walker from being detected by John, Oliver, and their spies. She loves Elena like a sister and puts magical spells around Walker as she can not use her magic on him. He is protected by magic, as all the royals are. As powerful as Mariam is, she is not more powerful than the witch that put the protection spell on the royals and their bloodlines.

Mariam decides it is time to stop playing with the two shamans. She starts to counter-attack them, and the shamans are taken by surprise. They have never felt magic so strong before and know they are in trouble. Mariam says her spells softly, and Aldo and Dakota feel their power is at its end. They can not counter her spells, and there is no escape for them this time. They know Jonathan will kill them if they release him from their magical hold. He is not happy that they attacked his mate, and he is not able to help. He hates feeling powerless when it comes to the safety of his mate. She is his everything, and he wants Mariam to be safe when he is near her. He can feel the hold of the shamans getting weaker. Jonathan looks at his mate, and he has never seen anything as beautiful as her at the moment she starts attacking the shamans. Her bright red hair looks like fire. Mariam looks like she is on fire as the magic begins flowing through her b***d. She feels mighty and magical. She has never had so much magic inside her. She has taken most of the shaman’s magic from them and is now using it against them. As she chants, she can feel her wolf becoming a part of her. It is as if they become not only one but melt together into one magical creature. Jonathan looks on in wonder as his mate transforms into half-wolf and half-witch. She stands on her hind legs but has the form of her dark red wolf. She is a magnificent creature—something Jonathan has never seen before. She is not only werewolf-like as a rogue when they half-shift, but she is magical, almost like a powerful supernatural being that no one has witnessed before.

Mariam does not know what an impressive creature she makes when she uses all her magical powers. She is unaware of everyone staring at her. The shamans stop using their magic as they stare at Mariam. They know they can not fight her, and they know that she is special. They know she is the chosen magical wolf the legends of the native tribes have talked about. They have seen her in the stars. Not all native Americans are werewolves, but those who are have heard about the special one that will come and help save them with the new King and Queen of werewolves. As magical wolves, they see her as their leader and do not want to fight her. They will surrender to her as she is the one they will follow without being cowards and give up their magic to her.

“We give up! We will give all our power to you! We are not worthy of being in your presence. You are one of the chosen, and we see our wrongful ways now,” Dakota says. Mariam calms down as she can feel the sincerity of the two magical wolves. She can use them in her army to help the King and Queen and will be of great help in the future. She will have to decide on behalf of the King and Queen, and Mariam knows it is not easy. Mariam feels the need for her mate for the first time as she can not decide on her own. She looks at Jonathan, who looks in turn to the witches, as they know more of what is happening than he does. They pull up their shoulders, and Jonathan looks at his mate. He will need to trust her instincts as he does not want to put his best friend and his mate in danger.

“I trust your decision. You will know more than me if they are sincere or not,” Jonathan says, and Mariam wants to k**s Jonathan as he is showing so much trust in her that he trusts her with the lives of his King and Queen. Mariam turns back to Aldo and Dakota. She looks them in the eyes. She has no idea how intimidating she looks. The two shamans fall on the ground with their faces at the feet of Mariam and start begging her for mercy.

“Please, mighty sorceress, you are much more powerful than we are, and we know you are the one that will help the King and Queen of werewolves, who will help save all werewolves. We have our own legends, as you have yours here,” Aldo says. Mariam looks at Jonathan and nods at him. Jonathan knows he can mind-link the wolves to attack as their part of the plan is over. Mariam will keep an eye on Aldo and Dakota in case they decide to turn on them. She stays in her current form, and Jonathan knows he will never be able to cheat on his mate as she will kill him if he does, but he does not mind as he never wants to cheat on her. Jonathan knows he will never want another she-wolf as he wants his mate. He knows she is the one, and she is more powerful than he is and most likely will protect him, but he still feels like he wants to protect her and love her for the rest of his existence.
