Paris’s POV

While we wait for Herman and his mate, we move the soldiers to a park far away from us. It will take us a few days, and we are waiting for Herman to perfect his device. Mariam cleaned up the scene where the attack had taken place. We started moving all the soldiers’ bodies and equipment to a park far away from our grounds. We move fast and at night so no one will detect us. The quicker we get the bodies away from our land, the better for us. We do not want to put our pack in danger of being detected. Walker and I decided to help as we were bored, and since we did not know how many dogmen there were on our grounds, it was better for us not to go camping or explore the grounds while they were out there. We are strong, but we can not take the chance of being overrun by a lot of dogmen as we are only two.

I still feel robbed of my alone time with Walker, but I know the pack and our Kingdom come first. The next full moon is in a couple of days, and we need to be there when Herman and Wayne shift for the first time. We do not know how Wayne will handle it. I do not even know if he has a family, and if he has, he will want to go to them and be around them, as that is how the human side of a werewolf is. We always want to be around the ones we love. I can not wait to get back to the pack grounds, but we have to stage a fight and make it look like the dogmen attacked the soldiers at the new place they were moving to. I am glad it is far away from our lands as we do not want them too close to us. I feel the government does not want too many humans to die, or their Vampire master will be angry.

At last, we are at the coordinates where the commander sent the troops that were on our pack lands. We start setting up the scene and leaving the dead bodies all over the place. We leave claw marks on the trees and footprints we made around the dead soldiers, and they will think they took Wayne or maybe devoured him. We leave his torn uniform that we took from him on the ground. I looked around, and it seemed like a battle had occurred there. We shoot a few rounds at the soldier’s guns, ensuring we leave no fingerprints besides the soldiers already on the guns. We know if there are other soldiers around, they will come looking, and we hide. We will run back to our pack as we can run faster than we can drive. We pretended to be hikers in the park again as we brought back bags, doors, water, and a few items of clothing with us. We wear our little devices to hide the fact from humans that we are wolves. It does not take long for a few army vehicles to arrive, and the troops get out, looking around cautiously.

“Holly f**k. What happened here?” One soldier asks.

“It looks like the dogmen attacked them. Look at the scars and the claw marks,” Another says.

“We have created monsters. What if they come after us next? These guys had ammo and everything, but the dogmen must have been too fast for them in the dark,” The first one says.

“I agree, and we keep losing men. We need to call the head office and ask for backup. This park is getting dangerous,” Another one says. We sneak away and run a few miles away from them, happy they buy the scene we set up. We start walking like hikers in case anyone stops us. We want to get away from the scene as fast as possible, and we keep walking more quickly. A few army vehicles drive past us as we walk, but they do not stop or talk to us. We stop and look at them as if we are curious about where they are going. We know where they are heading and hope they do not replace any dogmen or harm them. As we walk, we can smell something following us. We know it must be a rogue or a dogman. We pretend not to see it, but we can see it’s a face in the woods. It must think we are humans, and I wonder how it can not detect that we are wolves. Maybe not all dogmen have not learned how to see another wolf and can only detect each other. I do not know, but I can tell it is a dogman and not a rogue, as a rogue will stay out of our way as it will know we can and will kill it if it comes too close to us.

It keeps following us, and when we put up our tents for the night, I can feel it circling us as if it is looking for a point to attack us. We are all aware but pretend not to see or hear it. I wonder what it wants, as it seems aggressive. Peter knew who we were when we first met him, but again, he lived among the rogues that could have told him about us. They could have told him about other werewolves and that werewolves exist in the wild and not only in labs. Maybe the dogmen do not know about real werewolves and think humans made ones in the labs. Who knows? Or perhaps the dogman does understand who and what we are and believes he can take revenge on us for becoming a dogman. I do not know what is going on in his head. We wait for him to make a move, but he does not make any moves, and when we get up to move on, we can see his tracks around our camp. As we get our things together, a group of soldiers walks out of the bushes. They look at us and the tracks around our camp.

“Good morning. I see there was a wolf around your camp last night. You had better be careful. We have had a few animal attacks in this area lately,” One of the soldiers says.

“Hi sir, we did not even see the tracks,” I lie.

“Well, be careful out here, kids,” The soldier says as he and his men move on. We look as they disappear into the woods and move on, but as soon as we move on, we can smell and hear the creature following us again. I am getting pissed off and want to take on this creature following us, but I do not know what it wants, and we can only wait for it to make the first move. I also do not want to put him in danger and let the soldiers replace him before we can help him, and that is if he wants help. We hear him following us as we walk on, and he still follows us when we leave the park.

“So you think this creature is going to follow us all the way home,” I mind link, Walker.

“It seems like it,” Walker links me back.

“What do you think it wants?” I ask.

“I do not know, but we will corner it before we get to our grounds. We can not let an unknown wolf or dogman, whatever it is, onto our lands. We will need to know what it wants or if someone sends it to follow us,” Walker says, and I agree. We are not going to let anything put us in harm’s way. As I mentioned before, our pack and our Kingdom come first.

“Let us replace out what he wants and then see what to do with him,” I say.

“Yes, I agree,” Walker says. We walk in silence and are in no hurry to return to our land as we want to catch the creature following us when he expects it the least. We wait until nightfall and put up our tents again, although we are close to our grounds. We can be home within a few hours, but we do not want this creature on our land before we know what he wants. We wait until he thinks we are asleep. He comes closer to us and walks around our tents again. Yet he does not even try to attack us. He is smelling at the tents and walking around as if he is looking for something or someone. I wonder what he is looking for. As he gets near our tent, Walker and I jump up and run outside. Before us stands a dogman, he looks surprised as we look at him. He did not expect us to jump up and run outside.

“What do you want?” I ask.

“I am looking for Herman. I can smell you have been in contact with him, and I need him,” The dogman growls.

“What do you want with Herman?” Walker asks.

“I was the first one that turned when the werewolf scratched me, and Herman was trying to keep my human side. I need his help again. I do not want to be this beast I have become, and I do not want to kill innocent humans anymore,” The creature growls.

“He told us about you, but he never told us what happened to you,” I say.

“Please, take me to him. I can do with his help,” The creature growls. We can take the chance and then see if Herman’s device is working to deactivate the chip.

“Fine, but if you try something, we will kill you,” I say. He nods his big head, and we all get up to go to Herman’s cabin on our land. As we reach the Cabin, Herman and Paula come walking out as if they were expecting us. Herman looks at the creature, steps inside, and comes out with his laptop. He types on his computer, and in front of us, the dogman becomes a human again.

“Kyle? I have not seen you in a very long time. You were the first one that was turned the first time. I can not make you human again, as you will always be a werewolf now, but I can help you keep your human side,” Herman says. Kyle starts crying.

“You do not know what I have been through. They made us kill humans, and they made us eat the flesh of humans. We had no choice as we are beasts, and when they activate the chip, we can not think for ourselves,” Kyle says.

“I can only imagine what that must feel like,” I say as I feel sorry for the young man standing before us. Herman gave him a blanket to cover his naked body.

“No, you do not have an idea what it is like. We meet rogues in the wild, and not even they are as bad as us when killing humans, and we will rip them apart. When I saw you in the park, I could smell Herman and knew he was my only hope, and I knew I had to follow you to get to him. All I wanted was to feel human again and not like this heartless beast anymore. Sometimes they will turn the chips off to make us feel bad and beg them to turn off our emotions again. It is terrible to feel so guilty for what you have done when you are in beast mode,” Kyle says as he goes to sit on the ground and cry. He rocks his body as if he does not want to remember what he did. It is as if he is sad and ashamed at the same time.

“You are okay now. We will teach you to protect humans and be like us,” Walker says.

“I do not want to live with what I have done,” Kyle cries.

“Well, think of it this way. For every life you take, you can protect ten lives now,” I say. I can see his eyes clearly and as if he is getting hope again.

“You are right, my Queen. I will help you protect humans from now on. I want to start my training as soon as possible, “Kyle says. We nod as we take him to the packhouse and give him food and clothing. Kyle fits in fast with the rest of the pack, and we can see he is dedicated to our course. As the days go by, he gets better and does not feel so depressed so often. He trains with the young wolves, and soon we can see he feels like he has a purpose in life again.
