Luca’s POV

We are waiting outside the Castle. We decided to take out the windows first, which would kill many vampires in the court. The rest will have to hide in the dark corners. We will kill them before we go through the Castle and look for the one thing I want—my grandfather’s sword. I know there must be something special about that sword as my father keeps it locked away in his vault. I know it can not kill supernatural creatures, as my grandfather lived before vampires, werewolves, and hunters existed. He was not a vampire, as he died before my father pissed off the Sun God. I must remember to thank the Sun God for answering my prayers at last.

I am not human, but at least I am not the cold-blooded creature I was before the tattoo I got and my soul back. I felt great again, and I found love with Mariana, and I need to win her trust now, and I know I will. I will have to prove to her that I am trustworthy now that my heart is warm again. We walk to the Castle and start shooting out the widows. I can hear the scream of agony and smell the burning of flesh as the vampires in the sun are set on fire and turning to dust. I do not care if they are my kind. They are from my father’s bloodline, and I know they are all cruel. We walk around the Castle and take out every window we can see. More screams and swearing as we can hear some vampires scrambling to get out of the sun’s rays.

“Who are you, and what are you doing?” I hear my father’s old friend and general shouts. His name is Pushkin.

“Hello, Pushkin! Remember me?” I shout back.

“Luca? Are you still alive? You will pay for this,” He shouts back at me.

“I do not fear my father or you anymore as I can walk in daylight again,” I laugh.

“How?” He shouts.

“I have a daylight ring,” I say. I want him to call my father before we destroy them and the Castle. I run inside and stand behind the door where the light is shining. I know he is in my father’s office, and I listen to his conversation.

“Duke, Luca is here. He took out all the windows of the Castle. We are trapped inside, and the sun killed many of our men,” Pushkin says. My father must have said something as he responded.

“Yes, he has a daylight ring and can walk during the day,” Pushkin says. Pushkin listens again, and after a while, he answers. I can only hear one side of the conversation. Even though my hearing is good, it is not that good.

“I will try, Duke. I will get the daylight rings and hide them somewhere. I will do my best to protect the Castle,” He says. I smile. That is all I wanted. We have killed half the army here, and I think we will leave the Castle intact as we will know where my father will flee when we destroy him and his plans in America. I run to the vault where I know my father keeps the sword. Most vampires are trapped in dark corners, and Pushkin can not follow me.

I run to the vault and break off the door. What I see inside has me almost in tears. There are skeletons of my grandfather and grandmother sitting on chairs. I used to love them, but they disappeared when I was young. I know why my father never wanted us to go into the vault. He must have locked them in there to die of hunger and thirst. They still hold hands as if, in their last moments, they still want to be close to each other. My father will pay for this. In their hands are letters and my grandfather’s sword. I take the letters I will read later and remove my grandfather’s sword. I see the black shadow in the corner, knowing it is a vampire trying to stalk me. I grab him by his neck as he attacks. I rip out his heart, and he turns to dust. I need to get out of here before encountering more of them, or they will come at me in hordes. I want to take my grandparent’s skeletons and give them a proper burial, but they will slow me down.

“I will take the skeletons,” Mariam says as she stands beside me.

“What the hell are you doing inside? I told you to wait outside,” I say, as I know you have to worry about her.

“Shut up and let’s go,” She says. She grabs the two skeletons and starts running, staying in the light. I do the same, and I can hear the vampires hissing at us, but they can not touch us as they can not go into the sunlight. We run outside, and I feel the tears rolling down my eyes as I see the skeletons of my grandparents lying on the ground where Mariam put them down carefully. I have not cried in years and can not believe I feel so much emotion again.

“It is okay. I know they must have meant a lot to you, babe, but we will get through this together,” Mariam says. She called me babe, and it warms my heart.

“I have not felt so many emotions in decades. My father and mother will pay for this. He could at least have given them a quick death, and they were his parents. What kind of monster is he?” I ask, and I tell my siblings what I found in the vault and how I found our grandparents. I have taken a few other things from the vault as well. We will go back and clean the vault, so he has nothing left—the last things we will take from him and our mother are their lives.

“I know, but we will get revenge,” Kristina says.

“Grandpa and grandma were great people, and the townspeople loved them. It was only when father took over that everyone started hating us,” Roman says.

“I know, but we will avenge them,” I say.

“I know we will avenge them, but what is the plan?” Roman asks.

“We leave the Castle and let him come back here to get the daylight rings. I “dropped” them in the vault. Hopefully, father and mother will fall for it and put them on to become like us and walk in the sun. The only thing is, they will not be able to walk in the sun because they are evil and will turn to dust when they put on those rings. I pretended I dropped it when I fought the vampire in the vault. So let us hope they will fall for it,” I say.

“I doubt father will put it on first, and he will let his mother do it first to see if it works. You know what a coward he is,” Kristina says.

“I think the same. We need to talk to the gypsies and the magical wolves and ask them if they can make the rings’ effects last a little longer,” I say.

“That is a great idea, but we will have to hear from Cadilla and Mariam if they can do something like that,” Paris says. I do admire the Queen. She is beautiful, but I admire the King as he is a strong warrior, and I will never hit on the Queen. Besides, I think Mariana is gorgeous, and she is my mate for life, whether she wants it or not. I smile as I remember her calling me babe. I loved that, knowing I would spend the rest of my life with her. I will first ask her if she wants to become a vampire, as I do not know how she will feel about it. I look at Mariana, who is standing and talking to Kristina. I can see they like each other already, and I am happy that my family has no problems with Mariana as I plan on winning her heart again, although I think I have already done it halfway.

“What are you grinning about?” Walker asks me.

“Mariana called me babe today without realizing it. I think,” I say.

“Yeah, she likes you, I can tell,” Walker says with a smile. I can tell he trusts me, or he has a lot of trust in his Queen that she will never cheat on him.

“You do not worry about your beautiful Queen? You know I am a vampire, and beautiful women or creatures are always a challenge to me,” I say to test Walker.

“Buddy, first of all, my Queen will never cheat on me because I keep her satisfied, and why will she have a carrot when she can eat steak at home every night? I will kill anyone or whatever tries to touch her. I am just joking. I trust you, and I trust my Queen. We are friends, and friends do not do friends wrong,” Walker says. I smile as I know he gave me a warning and let me know he trusts me, but if I try something, I will die.

“You know I respect you too much, King. I will never touch your Queen. Besides, I am in love with Mariana, but I have been without feelings for so long that I do not know how it feels anymore. I want you to train Mariana and me, to fight together like you and the Queen. We need that bond, I think,” I say.

“You and Miriana can come and train with us tomorrow morning. We are up early and train early, but you will have to promise me one thing,” Walker says.

“What is the promise I have to make to you, King,” I say as I see Walker as my King now. I am part of his pack, and I love it.

“You will not turn Mariana if she does not want you to turn her or if it is a life and death situation, and you have to turn her to save her life,” Walker says.

“I promise. I have already thought about it, and even if she is dying, I will ask her first,” I say.

“That is very noble of you, my friend. Call me Walker and not King. I hate that bloody word, but everyone insists on calling me that. Like Paris, we do not feel we are royals,” Walker says.

“No, my King, you are more royal than you think. Why do you believe werewolf packs are coming all the way from their lands to join you and leaving their Kingdom behind? Because you and Paris are something else. You are like the royals of old. They were warriors who would do anything to protect their packs and Kingdom. The so-called royals of today are just a bunch of clowns that can not fight and are more there for the sake of money and earthy things. You are warriors that will fight for the existence of their kind. You are an example to all of us to resist and not just accept our fate. You are a true King and Queen, and I bend my knee to you,” I say, as I feel it is the right thing to do. I will have a home again, and I know Mariana will join me in the wolf pack as I can see my sister is already going to turn hybrid, and Roman is in love with a gypsy who wants to join and help the wolves. The whole gypsy village is ready to move with at least five wolfpacks. They all want to be part of the new Kingdom, and so do I, as I see Paris and Walker as my leaders.
