Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 109
Special Chapter: Zephyr’s POV
It would be inappropriate for me to do any of that, especially since she’s not here as just Evelyn, my mate but she’s only here as an envoy and she’s choosing to stick to that. I would just have to replace a way to talk to her privately, we have a lot to discuss which would mostly consist of me apologizing and earnestly hoping to be forgiven.
A slight whisper left my lips and she paused. Did she hear me? If she had then did that mean we still had a connection? The thought of it came as my only form of solace. She continued towards the door and I carefully watched her until she left the room.
“Alpha shall we proceed to the next task? You have a dispute to settle between two pack members.” Troy, my beta announced, knocking me out of my thought induced state.
“I’m not feeling too good today. Please postpone the rest of today’s tasks till tomorrow. I’d like to get some rest now.” I ordered and he nodded.
I stood up from my throne but Troy’s words made me pause for a second.
“This is all because Evelyn finally showed up again, isn’t it?” He questioned and I balled my hands into fists. He’s lucky that he isn’t just my beta but he’s also my friend as well or else he would have taken a heavy blow to the face.
“What do you mean by that?!” I raged.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I really mean no disrespect. I’m sorry if it came out wrong or sounded rude. Let me word it correctly. What I mean to say is, I could see how shocked and shaken you were when you set eyes on her after so long. Believe me, I was equally shocked. We’ve searched for her for a long time without success so the fact that she just suddenly appears in front of us when we least expect it was somewhat too much to take in but I believe it was just goddess Selene at work.
We blamed her for the former Alpha’s death and you banished her. A lot of us did reprehensible things to her and we all owe her an apology and fate has given us a chance to atone. I understand that it would be only fair to make amends for our actions, especially you Alpha, since you’re her mate but as your friend and beta, I suggest you take it slow. That is, you shouldn’t neglect your duties as Alpha while trying to win her forgiveness.
We’re in a state of turmoil as you know and we’re trying to hold our ground against other opportunistic packs so it’s important that you stay focused as the Alpha. Keep your eyes on the Pack, do anything that would bring development and favour our pack and at the same time, win back your banished Luna.
You’re Zephyr, the son of Alpha Davis and you’re my friend. I’m confident in your versatility, I’m sure you’ll be able to carry out all your tasks successfully. Our pack depends on you Alpha, never forget that.” Troy said and somehow, my anger melted away instantly.
He’s right. The thought of Evelyn shouldn’t be the only thing on my mind right now. I’m the Alpha and it isn’t just a title, it comes with big responsibilities that I have to fulfill at all costs. I’m basically the foundation of this pack so I mustn’t fault or show weakness. I always have to keep my emotions in check at all times. Duty comes first.
“I’ll never forget that.” I said monotonously. “Thank you for reminding me but taking one day off won’t ruin our Pack. I have a lot of things to fix and so little time and in order to express my versatility, some things need to be prioritized over others. So please carry out my order and postpone today’s tasks till tomorrow.” I said conclusively and Troy nodded.
“Yes, Alpha. Thank you for not misunderstanding.” He said and I sighed.
I don’t even know where to start with this. She’s my guest so I can’t just barge into her room in the name of asking for forgiveness, that would be wrong on all levels. I have to think of something and fast. Maybe lying down will help.
“Troy please make sure to let the guards know that I wish to not be disturbed.” I instructed.
“Yes Alpha.” Troy replied and I left the throne room.
I headed towards my room and closed the door behind me.
I lethargically walked to my bed and slumped on it. I took a deep breath as I ran a hand through my hair. I’m so confused right now, I don’t think I’ve ever been this clueless in my life.
I had desperately wanted her back but now that I finally have her in my reach, I don’t even know what to do. I don’t know how to approach her or how her reaction will be and the mystery of the whole situation is ripping me apart from the inside.
“Troy did give great advice back there, you know. If we wish to keep fostering the Pack and also get Evelyn back, we have to take it slow and steady. Our crimes against her are not something that can be easily forgiven. We first have to make her comfortable around us if we wish to get anywhere with this. We’ll have to break it into steps. It takes one silly and foolish moment to break someone’s heart or someone’s trust but we broke her’s a thousand times and if there’s even the slightest chance to gain her forgiveness, it definitely won’t be easy. So first, we should try to make her comfortable around us and we can only achieve that by also dividing it into steps. So let’s go with your earlier thought.
Our first task will be to make her smile.” Kieran said and I nodded. I’m definitely loving his idea but there’s just one problem, how exactly do I do that? I already know that the sight of me sickens her so how do I make her smile without showing my face.
“Letting her know that everyone knows that she’s innocent and that she’s finally been vindicated would definitely make her happy. We should let her know that we’ve found out the truth and we’re all repentant. We regret what we did and we would like to earn her forgiveness.” Kieran suggested and once again, the idea struck gold with me but I was still at a loss of how to carry it out.
“A public apology would be good but if the people who are most important to her apologize first, it’ll help to melt some of her hatred for us.” Kieran said and I smiled and instantly sprung up from bed. The movement was so fast that I saw stars for a few seconds.
That’s a brilliant idea. If I let her family know that she’s currently in our pack and let them go see her, they will apologize to her and also let her know that we’ve all found out the truth. After that, I’ll hold a meeting and gather every member of the pack so we can all apologize to her publicly. I know that apologizing won’t take away the suffering we put her through but at least that would be a starting point.
I take a deep breath before leaving the room and I head towards the room of Mr and Mrs Emerson.
I can only hope that my efforts yield positive results.
