Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV

I arrived at the Grand Hall quickly and when my eyes caught sight of Alpha Turner with Margallo standing beside him, I growled viciously and lunged towards him, ready to pounce on and devour him.

Richard must have spotted me right before I attacked and thus, he shifted quickly and lunged towards me, directly blocking my attack and almost making me lose my balance.

I glared at him lethally, expecting him to get out of the way. Alpha Turner shifted backwards probably out of fear while Margallo screamed before covering her mouth with her hands.

“What is wrong with you? You’re behaving like a wounded animal!” Richard growled.

“Because I am, he hurt my mate, my beloved, do you expect me to let him go free? I’ll kill him no matter what, for putting Evelyn through so much pain. She’s in there right now fighting for her life and the life of her pup as well. And you expect me to stand back with folded hands?

No, I won’t. Not this time. I’ve ignored everything they’ve done, watching quietly all for the good of the pack but not anymore. He messed with the one I love and I won’t sit back quietly. I’ll punish him and make him suffer no matter what, even if it means going against my own brother.” I said, my eyes burning with rays of ember.

“What is the meaning of this? You’re publicly and unashamedly confessing to cheating on my daughter with that girl? As if that’s not enough, you’re trying to attack me? What sort of fiasco is this?” Alpha Turner said with clenched teeth.

“Richard, what on Earth is wrong with you? Does this man have you under his spell or something? He poisoned your drink and tried to kill you but Evelyn saved you, putting her own life at risk. If it were not for her, you’d be dead by now and yet here you are defending the culprit and trying to stop me from exacting revenge on this traitor.” I growled, my claws scratching at the floor.

“I’m not defending or supporting him, I’m only stopping you from doing something we’ll both regret sooner than you think. I’m fully aware of exactly what happened and I know what he did. I intend to punish him severely as well. Do you think that I’d let him go after committing such a high treason against this pack? I was just about to get him thrown in jail before you came in and attacked.” Richard began explaining but I cut him off, too angry at his words to let him finish.

“Have you suddenly become weak or are you actually afraid of him? He actually tried to poison you which has led to Evelyn’s condition and the only punishment you can think of is, imprisoning him? Are you serious? If you’re too weak and afraid to give him a proper punishment, then I will.” I said and prepared to attack again but Richard stopped me once more.

“I’m warning you for the last time, Kayden. Stand down. Let’s handle this matter like adults and not like savage beasts. He is an Alpha for goodness sake and we can’t go around just attacking him while he is a guest here, it could cause a huge war to break out and the elders will not be in support of such an impulsive action. He is the Alpha of the Prime Wood pack but that doesn’t exempt him from punishment for his crimes, he is guilty of treason against another Alpha and so he’ll pay the price but I don’t have the power to punish him just like that, because he’s not like any other wolf in the hierarchy.

This case will be taken to the wolf court and will be judged there. Since his crimes are against me and my pack, I’ll give the final punishment but the elders will help me make a better decision on the matter so that my judgment will not seem biased or born from anger or grudges.

They’ll basically assess the matter, take Evelyn’s views into consideration because she is the victim and they’ll suggest a suitable punishment but only I have the power to decide what his punishment will be.” Richard explained but I still wasn’t satisfied.

“Would you stop your bickering for a second and hear me out? Though I’m not answerable to anyone, I have a right to be heard. For Selene’s sake, I did not poison the wine or the girl.

I told you that the wine was special because the grapes it was made from were from my personal vineyard. When I mentioned it being special, I didn’t mean that it was poisoned. And besides, why would I want to poison Alpha Richard when his brother is to be my son in-law soon?

That would be foolish of me especially since it would affect my daughter’s future and if anything were to happen, I would be the prime suspect. Can you not see that I’m also a victim here? I’m being framed. I did not poison Alpha Richard’s drink and even if I wanted to, I would not carry out the plan and make it so obvious.

Would any perpetrator do something as foolish as giving himself away like that? No! So think, think carefully.

I’m not afraid of any of your threats because I know I’m innocent. I did not poison the wine.” Alpha Turner stated but I was too angry to believe a word he was saying.

“If you didn’t poison the drink then who did? Who could have done it? You brought your wine, didn’t you? It was in your possession the whole time so who on Earth could have poisoned it except you? You were also the one who told us not to listen to Evelyn when she revealed that the wine was poisoned. You were the same person who kept urging Richard to drink the wine just so he could prove his trust in you. It was your plan the whole time.

It was you and no one else. It’s starting to make so much sense to me now. Your plan was to kill Richard during the mating ceremony so that while the pack was in mourning, you’d have your pack ready to attack our pack and take over it while we least expected but your plans have been foiled by Evelyn.

You’re the one behind this. You’re the perpetrator but you apparently weren’t as smart as you thought and that’s why you made such a foolish plan. But it’s more foolish of you if you think that you’d be able to get away with it just because you’re an Alpha. I’ll punish you myself if I have to.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Enough!” Kayden ordered.

“Guards take Alpha Turner away and keep him in custody till I order you otherwise.” Richard ordered and the guards escorted Alpha Turner out and surprisingly, he didn’t resist.

“You’ll regret this, all of you.” He threatened but I just glared at him.

Margallo instantly rushed to my side.

“Oh Kayden, everything that’s happened has been so scary.” She said exaggeratedly and it was just too obvious that she was pretending.

“Don’t come near me.” I warned and turned to Richard who nodded, understanding my silent demand.

“Guards, take her away as well. For all we know, she may be working hand in hand with her father.” Richard ordered and some guards grabbed hold of Margallo.

“What?!” She screeched. “How dare you touch me? Have you gone mad? Let go of me now!” She demanded and tried to fight her way out of the guard’s grip.

“Drag her away if you have to.” I ordered, trying my best to stay calm.

The guard practically dragged Margallo away but I didn’t miss the intense glare that she gave Richard who just looked away. It almost got me wondering.

“I’m very disappointed in you, Richard. How could you just lock them up without any proper punishment after they committed such a heinous crime? Is it that you’re afraid? Just what the hell is going on? If I hadn’t shown up and tried to punish him, I’m sure you would have just let them go like nothing happened.” I accused him, very angry and hurt by his actions.

“Kayden.” He called, obviously trying to pacify me but I was not ready to listen to any half a*s excuse that he had to give.

“I’m done listening to you. If you’re not ready to take action, then I will.” I said.

“Kayden, will you just listen to me?” He asked with a growl.

“What?!” I yelled back.

“I only did what I thought was best for everyone.” He began but I cut him off.

“Don’t lie to me. You only did what you thought was best for yourself. Not punishing Alpha Turner isn’t for the good of the pack and definitely not in Evelyn’s best interest.

She’s currently in there, battling for her life and that of her child and it’s all because of you. She put her life at risk just to save you and this is how you repay her? By doing nothing?

Elsie and Ana are there, worried sick and praying that nothing happens to her. The doctor isn’t even sure if she’ll be able to save her. I’m on the verge of falling apart and you’re acting like nothing happened. Do you even care for her at all? Are you really so selfish?” I attacked.

“I said enough!” He blurted, his voice echoing in the hall.

“Do you really think that I’m not worried or that I don’t care for her? Of course I do, I owe my life to her and I’ll do everything I can to ensure that she’s safe. I can’t believe you would think such of me. I couldn’t just take action in the heat of the moment because I knew that if I did, I would make a wrong decision that would harm the pack.

As an Alpha, I have so many responsibilities. I don’t just give orders and declare punishments, I’m like a father to the pack so I have to think of everyone when making a decision.

I swear I was so mad when I saw Evelyn in such a terrible condition.

I wanted to shift and attack Alpha Turner, I wanted to make him pay for what he had done but I had to hold back.

I had to exercise restraint though it felt like the hardest thing ever. Every member of the pack was present and they were all shaken by what had happened.

What do you think would have happened, or rather, how do you think they would have felt if they saw their Alpha go berserk and bloodthirsty?

I had to think of them as well and exercise patience. I had guards keep watch of Alpha Turner and Margallo so as to make sure they wouldn’t slip away. I also had to assure the members of the Pack that everything would be fine, I had to give them hope before making sure that they were escorted back to the pack house by the guards.

I was just about to order Alpha Turner’s arrest when you came in. Believe me when I say I want to make sure that he gets the worst punishment for what he has done to Evelyn but I have to handle this carefully or the consequences might be more than we can bear. Though Evelyn was the one who got hurt, the crime was against me so I can’t give out punishment like that or it’ll be seen as biased. When an Alpha commits a crime against another Alpha, judgment and punishment is given in the wolf court.

According to the wolf laws, as long as the victim is alive, he’ll be given a fair trial in the court but I’ll be the judge. The only difference is, he’ll have a chance to defend himself before finally facing punishment. I promise you that if he’s really responsible for this, he’ll get the punishment he deserves.” Richard promised me but a deathly possibility that brought a shiver down my spine crossed my mind.

Though I didn’t want to, I couldn’t stop myself from asking though the words felt like lead in my mouth.

“What………. What if Evelyn doesn’t survive, then what?” I questioned, a different kind of fear arising in me.

“Then I’ll kill him myself, I swear it.” Richard said through gritted teeth, his eyes dark.

“For now, you should forget about Alpha Turner and think of Evelyn. She needs you during this difficult time. I’m sure that if we all support her, she’ll get through this.” Richard said and I nodded, my mind instantly going back to the thought of her.

I wondered if she was still in labour. The anger and hatred I felt had diverted my attention from what was really important, her.

“Yes, she needs me now. I’ll quickly go get some clothes and go to her.” I said and turned to leave.

“Let’s go together.” He said and we both ran out of the hall, still in our wolf forms.
