Kayden’s POV

He threw me a serious look, probably angry that I’d suddenly dragged him all the way out here but I ignored it, completely unperturbed. “I finally know who’s responsible for poisoning your drink.” I revealed and his eyes instantly went wide with shock.

“Really? Who? How?” He questioned, the confusion clear on his face.

“Yes, it was none other than my “dar…..ling” mate, Margallo. The witch you’ve forbidden me from rejecting.” I said, putting a lot of stress on the word darling.

“But how? How is that even possible? Why would Margallo want to poison me? Who told you this?” He questioned and I nearly glared at him.

“Why are you speaking as if you’re above being harmed? I guess she might actually have a problem with you despite how much you’ve been going against your own brother and supporting her. The fact is that she tried to kill you and you’re lucky Evelyn was brave enough to risk her life and save you or you’d be dead by now. And do you really want to know who told me this? Well Evelyn did. She told me herself after giving birth to our little angel and she passed out immediately after.” I explained and the look of shock and confusion in his eyes changed to something I couldn’t quite place.

“Why would you believe anything she tells you in that condition? Evelyn has just given birth, her body and mind has been placed under so much stress so of course she might have not been thinking properly.” Richard said, completely taking me by surprise.

“So are you saying that Evelyn lied about Margallo being responsible?” I questioned, my anger flaring up at my brother’s strange behavior. Something is certainly going on here, I’ve ignored it for way too long but not anymore.

“That’s not what I mean……” He started to defend but I cut in immediately, not giving him the chance to explain.

“Then what the f**k did you mean? Evelyn risked her life to save yours, she’s not completely out of danger yet but she’s trying her best to pull through. She was able to name the culprit before passing out but here you are trying to defend Margallo instead of suggesting a harsh punishment. Why does it feel like you don’t want Margallo to be guilty? What exactly is going on here?” I questioned, wanting to know just what was going on in that brain of his.

“What are you insinuating? That I don’t want to punish Margallo because something might be going on between the both of us?” He questioned, his words shocking me all the more.

“I never said that and I’m not insinuating anything. All I’m saying is, I’m telling you this so we can go over to Margallo and force the truth out of her. If she did something as serious as poisoning an Alpha’s drink, then it must surely be a phase to her master plan. We have to replace out what she has planned and stop it, we also need to punish her. I’m sure you realize that I’m rejecting her today no matter what happens.” I told Richard and he sighed, defeated.

“Alright, we’ll do that. We’ll surely punish Margallo for her actions, I can’t believe she tried to poison me despite everything I’ve done for her.” The words just came out of the blue and it almost got me questioning.

“What do you mean by that?” I questioned. “I’ve supported her for so long, I’m disappointed she chose to turn out this way.” Richard said and though I wasn’t satisfied, I decided not to push it further.

“So, are you coming?” I questioned. We had to go to the dungeons and finally replace out the truth.

“Yes, but we have to let everyone know first.” He suggested but I instantly kicked against it.

“No, absolutely not. That’s out of the question. Why do you think I’m telling you so discreetly when I could have just announced it to everyone? A baby has just been born and everyone is so happy. Can’t you see how excited they all are? Everyone’s been sad and in tears so do you really want to ruin their moment of happiness just because of Margallo? Let them bask in the joy for now. After we replace out all the details, we’ll simply let everyone know.” I suggested and he nodded.

“You’re right, I can’t seem to think straight at the moment and I don’t know why.” Richard said and ran a hand through his hair.

“It’s alright bro, that’s why I’m here. Stress can do stuff to our brain. I was this close to going mad when Evelyn was in a critical condition and if not for your timely intervention, I might have killed or mortally wounded an innocent man. Thanks for always being there to guide me.” I thanked him and grabbed him in a hug. It had been such a long time since we’d shared a hug. I guess we’ve been so busy trying to fit into our positions and lead others that we’ve almost forgotten how important these small familial gestures could be.

“Back at you bro, thanks as well.” He said, patting my back before we broke apart.

“Alright, come on.” I called and we both headed for the palace dungeon.

We walked into the dungeon and were acknowledged by the guards who quickly directed us to the cell where Alpha Turner and Margallo were being held.

Immediately I set my eyes on her, all my rage and anger resurfaced and it took a lot of effort for me not to reach through the bars and strangle the life out of her. I took a deep breath and just glared at her instead.

She glared at me as well before standing up and laughing maniacally, her hair falling in her face.

“If it isn’t my dear mate, Kayden. Have you finally come to your senses and realized that you wrongly accused me and my father? Have you come to apologize, plead and beg for our forgiveness? Well it’ll take you a lot more than that for you to ever earn my forgiveness.

That mute little witch had you under her spell all along and I’m just glad that you’ve finally been freed from her hold after her death.” Margallo said spitefully, each word sounding like bombs to my ear.

“Shut up right this instant!” I barked at her, my voice echoing in the dungeon and managing to instill fear in her.

“How dare you scream at my daughter like that? What gives you the right to speak to her in that manner? The fact that I’ve decided to be quiet despite being heavily insulted by all of you doesn’t mean that I’m weak, it only shows that I have decency and I plan to get my revenge on you for my insult in a way you won’t expect but I won’t let you talk to my darling daughter in such a manner. I’ll kill you with my bare hands if I have to.” Alpha Turner raged and I rolled my eyes. Father and daughter were apparently birds of a feather.

“I have every right to speak to her however I like because I’m her mate, remember? Don’t worry, it’s just a little error that I plan to correct very soon. I can speak to or treat your daughter in any way I see fit because she is a criminal. She’s the one responsible for poisoning the wine.

She tried to kill my brother, the Alpha.” I revealed and Alpha Turner who seemed to have a lot to say, suddenly went quiet.

“How dare you accuse my sweet child of such a vile thing? First it was me and now my daughter? No, I will not sit back quietly and let you make baseless accusations against my daughter. You’re not fit to be her mate and I want nothing to do with you.” Alpha Turner yelled.

“If only you’d open your eyes, you’d realise that your daughter actually isn’t as innocent as she pretends to be. She tried to kill me despite how much I’ve been doing. It was my mistake, trying to make her part of my family but that mistake will be rectified today.

Kayden has never wanted to have anything to do with your daughter but he perserved and was willing to sacrifice his desires under my orders but after such a devastating stunt, there’s clearly no use of holding onto such a toxic relationship. Kayden is going to reject your daughter and free her from their bond.

And before you accuse us of making baseless accusations, why don’t you go ahead and ask your darling daughter what she did? Ask her why she tried to poison me.” Richard spoke up for the first time, his eyes dark.

“Margallo, is any of what they’re saying true? Did you have any involvement in any of this?” Alpha Turner asked his daughter and I was expecting Margallo to simply lie and deny everything but to my utter shock, she didn’t. She simply turned away and remained quiet.

“Margallo Daisy Remus, answer me, did you or did you not poison Alpha Richard’s drink?” Alpha Turner asked sternly and I was completely taken aback, it was the first time I’d seen Alpha Turner ever raise his voice to his daughter.

Margallo turned to us in anger and surprisingly blurted out the whole thing.

“Yes, yes I was the one who added poison to the wine. It wasn’t a mistake, I did it intentionally because I wanted to kill Richard, he just had to die.” She said, her eyes almost bloodshot.

I’d honestly thought we’d have to actually torture her a lot before she’d confess but I guess she actually does have a weakness just like anybody else and her weakness was apparently her father. Maybe that or she’s just tired of pretending. Either way, I’m just glad that things are going our way.

“But why? Why would you do something like that? You’re about to become a part of Alpha Richard’s family so why would you do that? Why would you want to ruin your own future? I don’t believe Alpha Richard has done anything to offend you so far and even if he had, it’s not enough to try to kill him. I’m very disappointed in you daughter, very disappointed. I’m sorry but your crime is against an Alpha and there’s nothing I can do to save you from any punishment he decides to give you.” Alpha Turner said, defeated and mostly disappointed.

I couldn’t stop myself from feeling sorry for him. He must feel like he’s failed as a father, which really isn’t far from the truth but still……….

Certainly nothing could have prepared me for what I heard next.

Margallo screamed, finally breaking into tears. “You all think I’m the guilty one and he’s innocent right? He’s not as perfect as you all think he is, he’s been hiding the truth from everyone. You all really want to know what he did to me? You all want to know why I tried to kill him? Well then, I’ll tell you. He hurt me very deeply. He broke my heart and stole everything away from me and then he left me…………….” Margallo said, her words leaving me in absolute shock and confusion.
