Thankfully, he didn’t give me much time to think before he continued.

“Your b***d is the sweetest I’ve ever tasted, it’s almost intoxicating. I’m tempted to drink from you right here and now but I won’t because I might not be able to exercise self control. I don’t want to drain you of all your delicious b***d so soon, I’d like to have you by my side a little longer.” He said and completely pulled away.

“Have a bath, get ready quickly and eat very well. I’ll be back and when I return, I’d like to feed well.” He said and turned towards the door. It seems like he’s going out, but where?

“Wait.” I called suddenly and he stopped but he didn’t turn back. “What is it?” He questioned monotonously. “Where……… Where are you going?” I questioned, expecting that he wouldn’t tell me but he surprised me.

“Well that’s definitely surprising. I thought you’d be happy and probably jubilate at the news of my outing but you rather seem concerned. I like how unpredictable you’re becoming, you’re certainly a mystery I will enjoy figuring out. If you must know, my outing has regards to my brother’s call earlier.

I’ve been asked to supervise the market today. Most of the traders seem to be short on their taxes and I must see to it that everyone obeys the Vampire King’s laws. You don’t have to worry, I won’t be long.

You should rather focus on getting yourself ready for my return. I certainly won’t go easy on you this time so you’d better prepare.” He said and the last words should have at least scared me but they didn’t because a plan instantly started cooking in my mind.

This is my chance to finally leave the castle without rousing any suspicion. If I can leave the castle, then I might be able to keep an eye out for Kayden. I don’t really plan on running away from the Prince, running won’t get me far and it would be the same as throwing away all my hard work.

I’ll just try my best to see if I can replace Kayden around the market. Selene has been helping me all along. I just hope and pray that she grants this request of mine and that she makes it possible so I can see Kayden just once so that my heart can rest at ease.

Yes, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll just have to replace a way to somehow convince Prince Virgil to take me to the market with him. It really won’t be easy, especially since he’ll think I’m just trying to escape but I at least have to try. I’ve come to replace out that anything is possible as long as I put my mind to it.

“Take me with you.” I blurted out suddenly and Prince Virgil paused before turning towards me again.

“Did I just hear you clearly?” He questioned, amused. I gave him the ‘you have super hearing so I’m pretty sure you did’ look before continuing.

“Yes, please take me with you. I’d like to go to the market with you.” I said, keeping my head down.

“And why is that?” He questioned even though we already both know what he’s thinking.

“I’m scared.” The words came so suddenly that it almost took me by surprise. Prince Virgil’s expression only changed slightly before going impassive again.

“Scared of what exactly?” He questioned. “Well, I’m a human and I’m your pet now. His Majesty doesn’t like me and Sir Carter must despise me more because he couldn’t get ownership of me. Even though I might not show it because I have self respect, I cannot deny the fact that you’re my only chance of survival in this world. The thought of staying in this castle all alone without you or your protection scares the hell out of me. I’m afraid that I might bump into Sir Carter or worse. I don’t even want to imagine it so please take me with you.” I pleaded, my lie sounding out perfectly.

Prince Virgil didn’t say or do anything immediately but from the look on his face, it seemed like he was considering it.

“I’m afraid I can’t oblige your request, kitten. You’ll stay in the palace until I return.” He said with a note of finality and was about leaving again but I wasn’t going to have any of that.

I’ve finally gotten my chance to get out of this palace and there’s the possibility of seeing Kayden, I won’t give it up so easily. I’ve never been one to take no for an answer. There’s only one other alternative left, provocation. If I can’t convince him, I’ll just have to provoke him into letting me tag along. It’s a risky option because it might end up only earning me a punishment but it’s definitely a risk I’m willing to take.

“I can’t believe the great prince of Luceras is afraid of a mere human.” I said and instantly got the desired result, he paused.

“Yes, it’s obviously true. You’re scared of taking me out of the palace because you think that I’ll try to escape. You can’t even maintain control over a young girl like me, I wonder what the other Vampires must think of you. Personally, I think it’s disappointing.” I said, resting my arms on the rim and placing my chin on my arms so I could watch him intently.

He turned towards me, maintaining a calm expression but he was obviously anything but calm.

“You’d better watch your tongue little girl.” He warned. “I’ve come to notice that this is all you do, you’re all words and no action. You talk about being fearless and dangerous but you can’t even take a single risk, it’s just so pitiful.” I said with a relaxed voice but I was slowly dying of fear inside.

In the blink of an eye, he was right in front of me again and my heart was threatening to break out of my chest.

He forcefully grabbed my chin and made me look straight into his amber eyes that were burning with rage.

“Don’t force me to do something we’ll both regret.” He whispered menacingly but I thankfully didn’t bat an eyelid. “My request is simple, please take me with you. I won’t try to escape and even if I do, your forces will catch me before I can even run far so why are you so afraid? If I try to run and I’m caught, you can give me any punishment you deem fit. I’m the one who’s scared for my life. I’d rather you kill me yourself right here and now than leave me all alone in this castle.” I also whispered, looking straight back into his eyes.

He surprised me with his next action. He kissed me ferociously and I found myself kissing back. He broke the k**s and caressed my left cheek, placing a curl of wet hair behind my ear.

“When you’re asking so nicely, kitten, how can I resist? Your swollen lower l*p just adds to the charm. You’ve managed to convince me, I’ll take you with me on my trip to the market but you’d better behave or I’ll punish you when we get back.

I’m putting my trust in you for the first time, kitten. You’d better not disappoint me or the consequences will be dire when I get a hold of you.” He said sweetly despite the venom that his words carried.

“I’ve come to accept my fate, I’m most safe with you. There’s no running away from you and any of this.” I said and he smiled at me. It was a genuine smile that caught me off guard completely and had me blushing in an instant. I’ll have to admit, no matter how unpredictable his personality is, Prince Virgil is very handsome.

“I’ll leave you to do your business then. Take a bath and get ready quickly, I’ll wait for you in my room.” He said and headed for the bathroom door. He opened it and took a quick glance at me before finally leaving.

As soon as he was gone, I sunk back into the water and heaved a sigh. My heart was trying to adjust back to its normal beating rate. The emotions I’m being made to feel here are so foreign to me.

I don’t have time to waste, I can’t keep the prince waiting. I bathe quickly, wrap a towel around my body and step out of the bathroom and back into my room.

My eyes instantly fall on the clothes that have been prepared for me on the bed.

It is a long but fitting velvet gown with an apparent gothic appearance. The upper part of the dress is burgundy coloured with a plunging V neckline and an adjustable ribbon lace up as the frontal design. The rest of the dress is black and so are the wide and almost extravagant dress sleeves carefully crafted with sequins. Typical. This dress is just too beautiful but what had I expected? I’m going out with a prince so I’m expected to look good.

I quickly put on the dress and surprisingly, it fits properly, exactly my size. I brush my hair and ruffle it up a little bit so as to complete the look. I take a look at the mirror and I’m surprised at how effortlessly beautiful I look.

I can’t really tell why but I have a pretty good feeling about this trip, I just hope it yields the desired result. I put on my flats and head out of my room.

Two minutes later, I’m in front of his room and I suddenly become hesitant, wondering how he would react to my appearance. I’m not even granted two minutes to contemplate as the door instantly throws open and the almighty King Cassius, the last person I’d expected to see appears in front of me, sporting his usual cold expression.
