Remembering You
Airplanes

If we have had the ability to, we have looked up into the sky where the stars rest and the airplanes fly. In the darkest of nights, it is the quietest. In the brightest of nights, it is filled with memories and sorrows. In the shortest of nights, with no sleep, there are whispers of plans for future hours.

As a seventeen year old, almost eighteen, going to a place where you have never been would have been amazing. Unless you are in a storm of lightening and rain, a fight between the gods damning the humans to their wrath. Being in the middle of the fight thousands of miles in the air, hearing the cries of the man right next to you fearing for his life. In that same instance making a friend only to lose him to a heart attack mid-air. Fears are invoked in the air.

In the darkest of nights where it is the quietest, lives could be lost on the other side of the world. Humans are the play toys of the gods. Given enough string to hang themselves, but as time goes on the gods you believe in so desperately have a little fun. Fighting for no reason and damning the humans to their wrath. Storms fall from the heavens, fires from hell, earthquakes from the shaking of the seas. Death follows everywhere.

In the brightest of nights, it is filled with memories and sorrows. Like the seeing of the love of your life drowning in a pool of his or her own tortures. The brightest of nights, is not the happiest of nights. It is filled with crying from the fear death and the pain of loss. It is filled with death and destruction of life. In the brightest of nights, your demons will chase you, because in the light of the moon they can finally see you.

In the shortest of nights, where there is no sleep, whispers of plans for future hours are made. Seamlessly it is shown that this is the nights you lie awake planning things to be better. It is where you lie to yourself and the ones around that you are going to do something better than before. In the shortest of nights, you whisper beautiful lies to relieve the pain of another tomorrow that is surely on its way.

As long as we have been able to, we look to the sky for comfort from the heavens. For the storage of memories and sorrows. For the protection of lies. And if we have been able to, we hide the tears from all the fears we are facing in this torturous life. Airplanes fly away from the ones that are grounded and with that, for even a small second, we are at relief. We are at peace. For that split moment, we forget everything and just stare at the stars in hope for a better tomorrow.
