The IRS officials quickly pointed at Adam and said, "That's him. Arrest him!"

After the police approached them and saw Adam, they instantly opened their eyes wide and looked petrified. It seemed as though they had seen a ghost and could not help shivering. "Are you here for me?" Adam sneered coldly.

The policemen trembled and shook their heads rapidly. "Yo-you're mistaken. We would never dare."

The IRS officials were dumbstruck. The police were here, but they did not dare to apprehend Adam. They were dumbfounded.

However, they kept urging the police to arrest Adam.

"What are you waiting for? It's him. Aren't you going to arrest him?"

"Why are you trembling? Just get the guy already!"

The police turned to glare at the officials angrily.

The police captain gritted his teeth as he cursed, "Fuck you. You are trying to get us in trouble, right? We can't arrest him! I suggest you leave while you can. Or else, even your boss won't be able to save you."

The police were from the local district, so this area was under their direct jurisdiction. A few hours ago, they had personally witnessed the power Adam had in the police department. He had beaten up one of their own in the interrogation room but got away with it. He even attracted the attention of soldiers and the mayor. The commissioner of the local police station and even the Deputy Director of the city police were fired and placed under investigation.

Even though no one knew exactly what happened in the end, or that Adam was a three-star general, it was enough to petrify them.

Adam was no ordinary man. No one would dare to arrest him!

When the police arrived, they refused to arrest Adam and even advised the officials from the IRS to let it slide. However, the officials were instead infuriated.

"This is utter nonsense."

"Do you know what you are doing? How could you say this?"

The police captain gritted his teeth and said, "I suggest you give your boss a call before you do anything rash. Don't say I didn't warn you." Then he looked at Adam and said weakly, "Since there's no business for us here, we'll be on our way." "Hang on."

The police chief trembled instantly.

Adam frowned and asked, "Did Silas get released?"

The police chief nodded and explained softly, "We didn't have enough evidence to keep him, so the lawyer came over to bail him out."

Adam narrowed his eyes.

Silas is out already? I have to admit his family is very well connected. If I am not mistaken, these people from the IRS are sent by him to get back at me.

When is he going to stop trying? Since he is suicidal, there is no reason for me to play nice!

Silas was officially No. 1 on Adam's hitlist now!

"Okay. You may leave." Adam waved his hand at the police.

The relieved police quickly left the company.

The IRS officials looked on solemnly while scowling in bewilderment. Judging from the police captain's attitude toward Adam, they naturally felt something was amiss.

Is he some bigshot? He is just a nobody who married into the Hartley family. Why are the police scared of him?

The official at the lead glanced at his subordinate and signaled for him to secretly make a call.

A few minutes later, the subordinate hung up the phone and came over to whisper a few words to his superior.

The man's face looked awkward before he gritted his teeth and said, "I'll come back in two days to audit your company. Let's go."

The rest of the people from the IRS put down the documents and prepared to leave.

Adam stood in front of them to stop them and said, "Did I say you could leave? Didn't you say you wanted to audit the company? You are free to audit the company, but you can only leave after you're done. Let's see what you can dig up!" The IRS officials were infuriated. They wanted to let things slide, but the man refused to let them go peacefully.

"Adam, this is too much. I suggest you quit while you're ahead."

Adam laughed coldly and said, "If there is anyone who is excessive, it is certainly you who is abusing power. Are you trying to leave now that matters have escalated? Tell me who sent you here so they can come and get you. Otherwise, you just have to stay here and audit the company!"

The man at the lead glared at Adam and said furiously, "Who the hell do you think you are? If you continue showing us this attitude, it's going to spell trouble for you!"

"You're the one who's in deep trouble," Adam coldly retorted.

The man in the lead was infuriated. He pointed at Adam and said, "You..."

Adam interrupted and said, "Security"

The security captain of Hartley Group instantly came over and looked at Adam with admiration!

The officials from the IRS were very arrogant and pushy. Even though the security team tried to stop them, they humiliated and warned them against obstructing official business, so they were powerless.

Now, they were all delighted by Adam's actions!

"You're to protect the officials while they work. Ensure they have all the food and drink they need. Give them what they want, Adam ordered.

The security captain instantly said, "Okay!"

An IRS official stammered and said, "Th-this is unlawful detaining. We can sue you for this."

"What unlawful detaining?" Adam said mildly. "Can't you see I'm helping you here? You wanted to check the accounts, so I'm just letting you do it. You can have this office."

With that, Adam left with Katie.

The security captain sneered coldly and stopped the officials from leaving the room.

When they got back to Katie's office, Katie asked worriedly, "Adam, are you sure we can do this?"

Adam shook his head and replied, "Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."

Katie sighed and said powerlessly, "Does this have something to do with Silas? Oh yes. How did you manage to leave anyway?"

Just as he was about to explain, Sofia suddenly said excitedly, "Oh my God! I can't believe you had the guts to detain officials. From the looks of it, other than being rich, someone in your family is probably a government official, right?" The veins on Adam's forehead throbbed.

What does she mean? Why didn't it dawn upon her that he was a government official?

Katie wiped the tears from her eyes and said, "Sofia, I am sorry you had to see this."

Sofia shook her head and said, "I really want to work for you. Ms. Hartley, are there any openings in your company?"

Katie rolled her eyes and said, "Don't you have a big business? Why would you want to work for a tiny company like mine?"

Katie was at a loss for words.
