Chapter 121

Cherise stood at the entrance of the ward and took a deep breath

Then she pushed the door open and went in.

Cherise glanced around the room, frowning with displeasure.

In the large white ward, there was only a small bed.

The air was filled with a strange blend of smells-disinfectant, sedatives, leftovers, the stink of infected wounds, and bodily

waste.

The room was so quiet that the only sound was the drip of a leaky faucet in the bathroom.

Cherise gazed steadily at the slightly elevated hospital bed and strolled over with a relaxed gait.

Step by step, she approached the bed as the man on the bed gradually came into view.

As Cherise got closer and looked at the man with his eyes tightly shut, she pursed her lips.

It looked more like a skull than a man's face.

He was incredibly thin, painfully so.

His cheeks and eye sockets were deeply sunken, and his face was awfully pale.

His hands lay by his sides, so thin that the bones stood out clearly.

Any other girl might faint from fright upon seeing him.

However, Cherise's expression remained completely calm.

She glanced around the bed and noticed a patient information card hanging on the headboard.

She reached out and picked it up.

It read: [Roy Lambert. Male. Born in 1975.

[Place of birth unknown. Residence unknown.

[Diagnosis: mania.]

After reading it, Cherise put the card back and her attention shifted to a white label at the foot of the bed.

She bent down to pick it up.

When she unfolded it, it showed the label of a benzodiazepine, a type of sedative.

After reading it, Cherise tossed it aside, and it slowly fell.

Cherise's gaze returned to Roy on the bed.

She leaned down, gently opened his eyelids, and saw his pupils were a bit dilated.

Cherise then rolled up his sleeves, revealing many mottled purple marks on his body, likely signs of long-term abuse.

Cherise snorted and asked, "What's your relationship with Mandy?"

When Mandy's name was mentioned, Roy on the bed noticeably flinched.

Cherise clearly caught this reaction.

Cherise smirked and raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking with disdain, 'Mandy, well

290%1

Cherise extracted an acupuncture kit from her pocket with her right hand, selected a needle, and swiftly inserted it into Roy's forehead.

A moment later, she pulled it out again.

Besides a few twitches in his eyelids, Roy had no reaction.

Cherise watched the color at the needle tip, her eyes gradually widening.

The needle's tip turned black, indicating that Roy had likely been poisoned or had taken an overdose of some drug.

Clearly, it was the latter. If Roy had been poisoned, he would have woken up when the needle was withdrawn.

Cherise pondered, 'Who would want to leave him in this state instead of just finishing him off?'

Cherise looked up at the ceiling, noticing there were no surveillance cameras in the room, so it was impossible to figure out what happened to Roy.

It seemed like Cherise had to take Roy away for now.

Jason was waiting at the door with a slightly anxious look, while the men in black on either side of the door stood there

motionless.

The next moment, the ward door opened, and Cherise walked out. Jason breathed a sigh of relief.

"Ms. Leach," said Jason with relief.

Cherise nodded and said, "I need to take him. Can you help?"

Jason glanced through the door at Roy lying on the bed and nodded. "Sure," said Jason.

Cherise remarked, "Alright, you carry him and I'll cover you."

Jason responded immediately with a "Sure," unable to deny a request from someone with a face so reminiscent of his grandmother's. He found himself unable to refuse Cherise, no matter the risk involved. Then Jason easily picked up the seemingly half-conscious Roy and followed Cherise out of the nursing home's entrance.

Seeing them come out, Dora and Hugh quickly got out of the car

"Ms. Leach, how come you pick someone up after a visit?" Hugh asked with a goofy grin.

Cherise glanced at Hugh without replying and simply said, "Put him in the trunk. Let's head back to Betrico."

After finishing everything, the four of them got into the car, ready to go back to Betrico.

Jason was driving again. Hugh sat in the front passenger seat, while Dora and Cherise were in the back.

"Cherise, it will take another three hours to get back to Betrico. You've been busy since morning. Why don't you take a break?" Dora said with concern.

Cherise nodded, feeling a bit tired. Then she closed her eyes, leaned back on the carrot pillow Dora had prepared for her, and fell asleep.

After Cherise was asleep, the other three in the car instinctively lowered their voices.

Seeing Cherise asleep, Dora also closed her eyes to rest for a while.

The compartment was eerily quiet, with the only audible sound being the gentle hum of the tires on the highway.

Suddenly, Cherise opened her eyes and sat up straight.

She glanced out the window and took a mirror from her makeup bag.

She could clearly see four cars closely following from behind, two on the left and two on the right.

She calmly put the mirror away.

Before she could say anything, Hugh and Jason also sensed something was wrong.

"There are two modified cars following us from behind, with one on each side," Hugh said calmly, looking through the right-side mirror.

"Yeah, they seem hostile seems this Roy isn't just an ordinary patient," Jason remarked.

With that, Jason sped up, trying to lose the four cars that were following them.

Cherise smirked. Hugh was part of Morris' team and the dark web, so it was normal for him to be so vigilant.

Regarding Jason, he served as Dora's assistant, yet his caution suggested he was far from an ordinary person. SEND GIFT
