Chapter 321

On the same day, at the Hawkins family residence, the atmosphere was starkly different from that of Saphira's. While Saphira felt relaxed, the air here was heavy with tension. Garrick had barely slept the night before, tossing and turning in confusion, wondering where things had gone wrong.

As he watched the servants busily loading gift boxes into the carriage, he rubbed his throbbing temples.

After a long pause, he exhaled deeply and asked, "Is everything ready? It's been years since I last visited Hamolica, and I can't afford to look cheap with my gifts."

One of the servants answered, "Sir, everything is prepared."

Garrick nodded with a simple, "Mm," signaling that it was time to leave.

The trip from Betrico to Hamolica wasn't about three hours-but it didn't took a toll on Garrick. At his age, traveling was tiring, but he was used to a physically demanding life.

When the carriage finally stopped, Garrick peered out the window at the peaceful Muller residence outside.

After a moment of reflection, he stepped out and quickly told the two servants to unload the gifts.

Soon, a small mountain of presents had piled up at the entrance of the estate.

The noise caught the attention of the people inside, who came outside to see what was going on. At first, they saw the commotion but couldn't quite figure out who was responsible for it.

Just then, Rayburn came back from the park after a game of chess. "Master," a servant greeted him respectfully.

Rayburn said, "I got so caught up in the game that I played a few extra rounds. But, nothing compares to the joy of playing chess with Cherise."

The servant nodded in agreement, though he wasn't sure who Cherise was. As Rayburn started to head into the house, the servant called out, "Master, wait!"

Rayburn, being an understanding older man, didn't mind the interruption. "What is it?"

The servant pointed to Garrick in the large parking area. "That person seems familiar, but I can't remember who it is." "Really?" Rayburn asked, turning to look. As he focused, he slowly started to recognize the person. "Garrick?" Garrick's servants had finished unloading all the gifts, even bringing a small cart filled with more presents. Garrick led the way, walking with a sense of urgency, with two servants pushing the gifts closely behind.

Just as they reached the door, Rayburn appeared at the entrance. "Ah! Isn't that my brother-in-law? It's been a long time since I've seen you," Garrick greeted Rayburn, trying to sound friendly.

Rayburn's mind immediately went to some unpleasant memories of the past. Still, noticing their shared age and frailty, he forced a polite smile. "Garrick. I almost didn't recognize you. Are all these gifts for your sister?" Garrick nodded, "Yes, it's been too long since I visited her. I thought I'd bring her some gifts, of course, including something for you."

Rayburn gave a weak smile. "There's no need for gifts; we got everything we need. Oh, and I almost forgot! I just returned from my exercise and I'm a bit... ripe. I wouldn't want to interrupt your reunion with your sister." Without waiting for a response, Rayburn turned and walked back into the house, clearly eager to freshen up.

Garrick understood perfectly. Rayburn had never liked him, even when they were younger. If it weren't for the events of the previous night, Garrick wouldn't have bothered visiting, especially just to be met with Mayburn's cold attitude

But, given the presence of the Muller family's servants and the respect the Muller family had earned over the years, he kept up the appearance of politeness,

"Could you show me to my sister?" Garrick asked.

Recognizing him as Rita's younger brother, the servant responded politely, "Of course, sir! Right this way! Mrs. Muller prefers solitude, so she's in her garden." Garrick, curious, asked, "Where is that?"

The servant pointed toward a gate nearby. "Right there, sir. With respect, the servant started leading the way.

Garrick glanced at it. It looked very much like the Dream Residence in Betrico. The Muller residence and Rita's residence seemed to be a place where a husband and wife once shared their lives, though their relationship had clearly frayed over time.

Garrick followed the servant, a flood of memories rushing back

Years ago, his sister had gone to great lengths to marry Rayburn, and now he wondered how she had fared over the years. He had even heard that their relationship had grown distant since their wedding night. SEND GIFT
