Chapter 440

Cherise and Mary were blindfolded and led by people from Ghost Hand to a strange place.

Blindfolded, Cherise could only estimate that the car had been traveling for approximately an hour and a half, ascending the mountain. Then it seemed like they were continuously going downhill on a bumpy gravel road.

Finally, the final 2-mile stretch was smooth.

It wasn't until they were inside the isolated factory that the blindfolds were removed from their eyes.

"Oh my, where are we? Those bumpy roads have left my bottom numb!" Lilia complained. At this point, she was fully sober and alert.

To prevent others from seeing through her act, Lilia continued to feign confusion, shaking her head and clinging tightly to Cherise's arm as she spoke. Once the blindfold was taken off, Cherise scanned the surroundings.

The structure resembled a sizable factory constructed within a cavern. Although it lacked extensive equipment and furnishings, it featured several rooms.

The masked guys from Ghost Hand were gone, leaving behind about a dozen men who all looked tall and imposing. One of them said, "Our boss instructed us to keep you there just like those two. Get in."

With that, he unlocked the nearest door and pushed Cherise and Mary inside.

"Why push so hard? I almost fell," Mary complained.

Cherise reached out to steady Mary.

After the door closed, the room became entirely sealed, with the exception of a small window located high up on the wall. There was a dim yellow light, and against the wall were two small beds, with two people lying on them. It seemed the noise woke them up, as the two rubbed their sleepy eyes and sat up straight.

When they saw Mary, they were so excited that they stood straight. They asked in a trembling voice, "Mrs. Jarrett? How did

too?" those animals manage to capture you

Mary was equally surprised when she recognized the two middle-aged men in front of her. She asked, "Damian, Charles, why are you here?

"I heard a while ago that you both went missing. Later, a body was found. I thought you had already..."

Damian Hillary, who seemed very tired, sighed and explained, "Two months ago, I was exhausted after work and fell asleep in my car. When I woke up, I was here.

"Later, I found out that it was Ghost Hand's people who had captured me.

"Mrs. Jarrett, you know, I'm responsible for information security at Clusia.

Shilt

"Ghost Hand approached me with an offer to join them and provide them with our core technology, which they intended to sell to other countries. I could never agree to such a proposal. 09:08 Mon, Dec 23

"As a result, they've been keeping me confined here around the dock, with various individuals attempting daily to extract information from me."

Charles Davidson, the other man, chimed in, "It's the same for me. Trying to bribe us with money? It's not going to happen.

"We're probably not the only ones here. Occasionally when they allow us out into the hall outside, I've seen some billionaires and well-known professors around.

"But I never thought they'd stoop so low as to even capture Mrs. Jarrett.

""Who's this young lady? She looks familiar."

Mary quickly replied, "This is Cherise, my grandson Morris' wife

Cherise nodded to the two men and introduced herself, "Hello, my name is Cherise Leach."

The two gentlemen suddenly realized and said, "We've heard of you, the renowned visiting professor at Betrico University. Your reputation precedes you.

"We're sorry to see you in this predicament. We're uncertain if there's a way out. Given the circumstances, we can't ask for

more.

"Regardless, we're not afraid of facing death."

Mary looked at them gratefully and said, "On behalf of Arthur and the people of Clusia, I should thank you both." Hearing this, Cherise immediately grasped that the recent Dark Web Division operation was connected to Ghost Hand. It was said that numerous high-ranking officials and influential individuals were implicated in the operation.

Those who were corrupt or lacked resolve had already been bribed. The remaining committed core members, like Damian and Charles, were likely being held captive.

Cherise thought, 'It seems that being captured this time isn't entirely useless.

"The Ghost Hand really ought to be destroyed!

As this thought crossed her mind, Cherise had formed a plan, and a confident smile appeared on her face.

Glancing at the two remaining beds in the room, Cherise said, "Grandma Mary, you must be tired from the bumpy journey. Get some rest first. I reckon we'll have a long fight ahead once dawn arrives."

Mary understood Cherise's intent. Though Mary was beginning to feel homesick, she knew she couldn't be sentimental at such a critical moment.

Mary brushed the dust off her clothes, lay down on the bed, and closed her eyes.

Seeing this, Cherise smiled and lay down on the last remaining wooden bed, staring at the ceiling. She took a breath as Morris' image started to appear in her mind.

She pondered, 'I wonder how Morris is doing now, if he's anxiously looking for me. Morris, I believe we'll meet soon!

In an unfamiliar place where Morris wasn't around, Cherise missed him very much.

Thinking about him, she gently closed her eyes.
