Chapter 69

Morris showed Cherise into his office, gestured for her to sit on the couch, and ordered a fruit salad for her.

This was Cherise's first time at Chivers Group and her first visit to Morris's office. She took in the lavish surroundings, noting the decor was as grand as Glenshire Gardens.

A large floor-to-ceiling window behind the desk offered a panoramic view. As Betrico's tallest building, it looked down on

Chivers Group had the other commercial structures, a symbol of Chivers Group's dominance. Indeed, over the years, become a leading enterprise unmatched by many in Clusia,

Watching Cherise take in his domain, Morris felt a swell of pleasure that she had come to see him. He asked gently, "Cherise. what brings you to my office? Next time, just give me a heads-up, and I'll send a car for you."

Fidgeting and sweating, Leo thought to himself, 'Shoot, I forgot to tell Mr. Chivers she was coming. Please don't let this slip. If Mrs. Chivers and Enya replace out, I'm done for.

rompted by Morris's question, Cherise remembered Phoebe's task. "You left your phone behind, and Phoebe asked me to dop it off. It's with Leo, along with some pastries,"

Morris glanced at Leo, who was stretching his neck to look out the window, avoiding eye contact.

With an amused smile, Morris saw through Phoebe's ploy. He sat across from Cherise, checked his watch, and said, "Cherise, thanks for bringing my phone. Could you wait for about 15 minutes? I'll take you out for a meal afterward." Cherise was about to say she would rather leave, but at the mention of a meal, and as she recalled the memorable restaurant Morris had introduced her to, she nodded in agreement.

Morris smiled tenderly, ruffling Cherise's hair. Then he asked Lep to keep her company as he and Steven headed for the door.

In the conference room, the executives were still seated, awaiting Morris's return. No one dared to leave or speak, knowing he might walk back in at any moment.

As expected, the conference room door opened, and Morris entered. Several executives braced for a reprimand.

To their surprise, Morris said, "T'll give you two more days to revise the report. I expect to see something satisfactory," With that, he quickly exited the room again.

Puzzled, the executives exchanged glances as if to say, "Is this sti Mr. Chivers? He's acting differently-softer, more approachable, and no barking orders. This is weird." The group was in a daze until Steven said, "The meeting is adjourned." It snapped them back to reality.

When Morris returned to his office, Cherise was enjoying her fruit salad, and Leo was leaning against the wall.

Seeing Morris, Leo remarked, "Mr. Chivers, that was quick. Less han five minutes."

Ignoring Leo, Morris went straight to Cherise.

Cherise stood up, looking at the returning Morris, "You're back already?"

Morris nodded and said, "Yes, i

it's 7 PM, and I don't want you to be hungry." The next

t moment, he reached for Cherise's face.

Cherise tilted her head, puzzled. "Hmm?"

Morris chuckled softly and said, "You have a bit of salad dressing at the corner of your mouth" He gendy wiped it away with his thumb. "All better!"

"Let's go. I'll take you to a great place for food," Morris said, taking Cherise's two pastry boxes and his spare phone as they headed to the elevator.

Still leaning against the wall, Leo sighed and said, "I really don't want to be the third wheel. I wish I could disappear. Enough with the public displays of affection."

Cherise and Morris exited the Chivers Group building, where the Porsche Panamera was waiting. However, today, Morris, was going to be the one behind the wheel.
