Revenge Against My Ex-husband
Chapter 164 No Room For Mistakes

Steven exited the cafe and returned home. At his arrival, Deborah welcomed him. "Why are you back so early today?"

Steven snorted. "Where's Lily?"

"She's sleeping upstairs."

"It's the middle of the day; why is she still asleep? Ask her to come down. I have something to ask her." Steven's face darkened.

Deborah immediately ascended the stairs and pushed open the door to Lily's bedroom. She lowered her voice and spoke, "Hey, your dad wants to ask you about Edric. Do as Marie says. Don't ever blunder, understand?"

"Alright." After freshening up, Lily went out of the bedroom.

Looking at Steven's sullen face in the living room, Lily felt somewhat nervous. She didn't even know why she was afraid of Steven. "Dad, you're looking for me?" she asked, pretending to be nonchalant. Steven snorted and gestured to Lily to sit down opposite him. "What's going on between you and Edric?"

"Nothing special, Dad," Lily answered, looking innocent.

"Really?" Steven just stared at Lily. "Let me ask you, have you met him in private?"

"I did." Lily lowered her voice.

"So are you the reason why Irene and Edric are in such a mess right now?" he demanded.

"Dad, that has nothing to do with me." Lily shook her head.

"Do you mean it?" Stoic, Steven looked at her. Lily was stunned by his scorching gaze. "Dad, I swear! It's all Edric's fault... He was drunk... And then... I didn't tell anyone, not even Mom. It's none of my business that Irene is in a row with him."

It was a blatant admission that she had slept with Edric. Steven had been hoping that Marie was just spouting nonsense, but now he was genuinely furious.

He grabbed the glass in front of him and smashed it on the floor. "Didn't I warn you not to go near Edric? So you'd just completely ignored my words?!"

"I didn't mean it... Dad... I really didn't know it would turn out like this." Lily sobbed.

"That Rowane called me and told me that Edric was drunk. She asked me to take him home. I didn't think much about it, and I didn't know... that Edric would pounce on me like a madman. It was useless for me to struggle; he was way stronger than me. Then... he fell asleep and I... I sent him home. Aunt Margaret is the only one who knows about this. I can vouch, no one else knows."

"If you don't want anyone to know about it, you shouldn't have done it in the first place. Can't you understand such simple logic?" roared Steven.

"What's going on?" Disconcerted, Deborah came over.

"You've done a very good job at raising your daughter!" Steven glared at Deborah censoriously, as if he wanted to swallow her alive.

"Dad, it's my fault. It has nothing to do with Mom. She doesn't know anything. I'll take all of your anger!" Lily knelt on the ground and said, "I'll go and explain to Irene... It's not Edric's fault!"

"Explain what? Do you think your explanation will help Irene and Edric in getting back together?" Steven glimpsed at Lily who was crying bitterly. "From now on, you'd better be obedient. Stay at home and don't go anywhere!"

He shouted at her and slammed the door on the way into his study. Deborah reached out to help Lily up. The two of them shared a glance, both with a proud look on their face.

After Kinsey had parted ways with her colleague, she went back to Jordan's villa. On the way back, she bought some of Eden's favorite snacks. Eden was full of beans to see Kinsey coming back. "Kinsey, did you bring me any yummy food?"

"You cute little kitty, I knew you would be hungry. I've brought you some of your favorite snacks." As she spoke, she produced the snacks she'd bought on the way back and handed them to Eden.

"Hey, you're spoiling him." Irene reached out and rubbed Eden's head. Looking at his joyful expression, she smiled and added, "Go on, say thank you to Kinsey."

"Thank you, Kinsey!" Eden thanked her sweetly.

"Be a good boy, go and eat over there. I need to talk with your mom." After Eden obediently stepped aside, Kinsey pulled Irene over. "I saw Marie and your father in a cafe just now. Why do you think she wanted to see your father?"

"How would I know?" Irene shook her head.

"Marie is so beautiful; besides, she's single. Do you think something is going on between her and your father?" Kinsey scratched her chin.

"No way." Irene shook her head again.

"Why not? Marie looks so similar to your mother. Maybe he regards her as your mother's stand-in." Kinsey chuckled at her own imagination. "Is that the kind of stuff you've been feeding your mind?" Irene paused for a while and continued, "Marie is Jordan's father's lover."

"Bloody hell!" Kinsey was shocked. "Jordan's father's lover? Does Jordan know about it?"

"Of course!" A sudden voice rang out, and Jordan appeared in front of them out of nowhere.

"I..." Kinsey blushed. Although she wasn't tattling about him, she still felt embarrassed that she got caught.

"We weren't talking bad about you..."

"I know, I heard what you said," Jordan interjected indifferently. "It's no secret anyway."

Kinsey breathed a sigh of relief at how chill he was. She looked over to Irene. "This isn't the first time I've seen your father meeting Marie. I saw them meet once before at a cafe. They looked kind of suspicious I mean, they were scanning the surroundings before entering. I found it really strange. I had wanted to tell you but I forgot."

"When was this?" Irene was surprised.

"Give me a moment." Kinsey rubbed her temples. "I can't remember the specific time, but I think it was around when you had just moved in with the Cook family."

"Well, he does have a history of cheating. Perhaps he hasn't changed out of his old ways?" Irene's face suddenly darkened. Steven had cheated on Myra with Deborah, and now he was probably about to cheat on Deborah with Marie.

"I hope he's having an affair. Deborah deserves that karma." Kinsey snorted. "Deborah seduced a married man; now she will know what it feels like. Time for her to have a taste of her own medicine."

"It better be so, then we can sit back and enjoy the show," Jordan echoed. He knew that Marie and Steven were brother and sister-in-law. But Thomas had wanted to keep this secret from Irene, so naturally, Jordan would not let the cat out of the bag, at least not to Irene.

But he wasn't fond of Marie either. If he showed Deborah the picture of Steven meeting with Marie and misled her into believing that they were having an affair, Deborah and Marie would definitely get embroiled in a catfight.

"Maybe we should follow them and take pictures of Mr. Cook and Marie. Then we can send them to Deborah. That will seriously piss her off," suggested Jordan.

"Holy, that's a marvelous idea. Why don't we get someone to follow..."

"You two can really make a good pair." Irene interrupted Kinsey, "I only care about Eden now. I have no care left for irrelevant characters."

"I knew you'd be like that." Kinsey curled her lips. "You gave up on being the daughter of a politician and let some illegitimate daughter take your place. Only you would do that. If it were me, I'd never let Deborah and Lily through the front door."

"That's because you're a bystander, not one of the parties involved." Irene sighed.

"After replaceing out that Steven had an affair, I was extremely disappointed in him. I looked up to him when I was younger, so I couldn't accept the truth when I found out. If it happened to you, I'm willing to bet that you wouldn't be able to either."

Jordan nodded. "Truer words were never spoken. Only the people involved can understand it. But I've always been curious about something. Have you never even thought about taking revenge on Deborah and Lily?"

Any normal person would have found it difficult to forgive Deborah. But Irene had never done anything to Deborah nor Lily. Did she not begrudge them even a tiny bit?

"Why would I bother?" Irene retorted, "It takes two to tango. It's not Deborah's fault alone."

"Why isn't that her fault? If she hadn't seduced Mr. Cook so shamelessly, would your mother have died in that car accident?" Kinsey rebuked.

"Of course Steven's affair is a factor in my mother's accident. But in the end, it was still an accident. She fell in love with the wrong man. A tragedy ensued because she put every last bit of her hope onto him. That's exactly why I hate Steven. If it weren't for him, none of this would have happened. I think my mother was too foolish. She gave up her life for a man that wasn't worth it and left me alone..." Irene's voice was tinged with sadness.

"If, let's assume, it was Deborah who seduced your father and separated your family, will you take revenge?" Jordan asked tentatively.

"If your assumption is true, I will definitely avenge my mother!" Irene replied, "But I heard from Uncle Thomas that she got into a car accident when she was passing the zebra crossing. It was purely an accident."

Jordan fell silent again. There was no way to uncover the truth from back then. But he was sure that Deborah must have somehow been involved.

Should he tell Irene? At the sight of her frail expression, he couldn't bear to. Indeed, Eden was the most important person to be concerned about at this moment. Perhaps Jordan would leave this matter to another time. When he gathered enough evidence, he would surely tell her.

Jordan was about to leave, and Kinsey volunteered to see him off. After walking him to the door, she softened her voice and asked, "Jordan, what did you mean just now?"

"Which of it?" Jordan asked.

"That it was Deborah who separated Irene's family. Have you found any evidence?" Since Irene had all her mind on Eden, she hadn't really paid attention to what Jordan had said. But Kinsey was different. She sensed that there was something more to his words. When Irene was around earlier, she'd kept quiet. Now that the two of them were alone, she couldn't pass up on the chance to ask him.

"There is no evidence. I was just making a random statement." Of course, Jordan wasn't going to tell Kinsey without concrete evidence.

"Oh, I thought you had found something." Kinsey was a little disappointed.

"Deborah used to be Irene's mother's best friend, but she shamelessly seduced her best friend's husband. How awful. It pisses me off even more knowing that Lily tried to seduce Edric. I just want to beat them two up for Irene. Everything I told earlier was the truth. I really hope Steven is having an affair so that evil woman can get a taste of her own medicine."

Kinsey was blistering with rage, for she too held a grudge against Deborah and Lily. In this sense, she and Jordan were similar.

"I understand your anger for Irene, but we should take it one step at a time. Keep an eye on them, they're bound to slip up one day," said Jordan.

"Does that mean you're watching them?" Kinsey became excited. She had always wanted to catch Deborah making a mistake, but she was too powerless to pull such a stunt. If Jordan was willing to help, it would be much better than her working alone.

"Yes." Jordan nodded. "I don't really care about Steven. After all, he is Irene's father. He won't do anything to her. But Deborah is different. I have to pay more attention to her."

"Agree, I also think that we should pay more attention to Deborah. I have something else to tell you. The last time when I went to dinner with Irene, we were stuck in the jam. Then we saw Deborah with another man in a car. They were holding hands," spoke Kinsey.

"Are you serious?" Jordan's interest was piqued.

"I'm not too sure. At that time, we were a little far away, and the woman was wearing a hat and sunglasses. Irene couldn't say for certain either. But at the time, Irene called home and Maisy said that Deborah wasn't home, claiming Deborah had gone to the beauty salon. Maisy also told us that Deborah would only go visit that saloon when Steven was busy and that Deborah would always spend a long time at it. I thought it was a little off, so..."

Jordan immediately interjected, "I see. I'll keep an eye on Deborah. I'll let you know should I come across anything!"
