Revenge Against My Ex-husband
Chapter 172 – Surveillance

Lily came home to Deborah's sullen face. Deborah scolded her, "Didn't I tell you that you were grounded? You've turned a deaf ear to it?"

"Mom, I have something important to tell you." Lily led Deborah into her room and closed the door. Lowering her voice, she said, "I just found out that Irene is pregnant."

"Where did you hear that?" Deborah was taken aback. Lily told her everything that Joanne had said, making Deborah anxious. Joanne came to befriend Lily to deal with Irene together. However, she needed to verify this piece of news.

She immediately called Marie. "Hey, I've heard that Irene is pregnant. Is that true?"

Marie, who was at work, turned stunned when she heard that. She said, "No way, Margaret has never brought this up."

"That's what Joanne told Lily. She said that it's to save Eden. I was still unconvinced, so here I am, asking you."

Deborah noticed Marie's ignorant state and calmed down. She thought that perhaps the news was false. From the bottom of her heart, she certainly hoped that Irene was not pregnant.

Marie was hopeful that Irene was not pregnant too. However, as they say, there would be no smoke without fire. Joanne could not have possibly faked an entire rumor to tell Lily.

With Margaret's desire for grandchildren, she would be excited that Irene was pregnant. Why didn't she share with her anything about it?

However, it was indeed possible to cure leukemia with the baby's cord blood. Marie pondered for a moment and said, "I'll replace time to visit Margaret and ask her about this."

Marie was a person of her word. She immediately bought some fruits and went to visit the Myers family. Exhilarated to meet her, Margaret and her chatted for a while. Later, Marie deliberately brought up Eden's illness and asked Margaret about his treatment. Margaret sighed, "He is stable for now. Since he isn't a terminal leukemia patient, Edric said it shouldn't pose a huge problem. By the time Irene gives birth to the baby, they could use the baby's cord blood for treatment and cure him."

It was the first time for Margaret to mention Irene's pregnancy. Resentful, Marie thought that this old lady was so daring to keep this secret sealed within her! Fortunately, Joanne had leaked the news. Otherwise, Heaven knows how long it would have taken before they caught wind of this matter.

In her heart was abomination towards Margaret, but she remained her composure. "This is a joyous occasion for you. Not only will the child be cured, but you can also have another addition of grandchildren." "Of course, having more grandchildren is a good thing, but their mother isn't such a good person. I'm having a headache just thinking about it! Do you know that Edric is bent on rekindling the flame with Irene? Lily just happens to be pregnant at the moment. What should we do now? My head is killing me just thinking about it."

There seemed to be something off in Margaret's tone. Now that the cat was out of the bag, and Margaret was not someone who kept her promises, she might regret her decision. Once she did so, the matter would be hard to deal with. Worried, Marie said, "The success rate of treating leukemia with the cord blood transfer is high, but it needs to be compatible to be successful."

Margaret naturally didn't understand what she meant. "What do you mean?"

"It's just that it's not certain that the child's blood in Irene's womb right now will match Eden's," Marie explained.

"What should we do? If Irene's newborn child doesn't match Eden, what would happen to Eden?" Margaret became nervous after hearing this.

"You don't have to worry about it. I'm just talking about the probability. Besides, if Irene's newborn isn't compatible, isn't Lily pregnant as well? She is pregnant with Edric's child, the blood of her newborn child might as well match Eden's."

"Right, Lily is pregnant with Edric's baby. If Irene can't do it, we can count on Lily." Margaret understood everything rather quickly.

"Therefore, you don't need to rack your brain now. Be patient and wait for them to pop the babies out. If treating Eden also gives you a few more grandchildren, you should be over the moon."

Margaret nodded and said, "You're right. We should see things from different perspectives."

As she spoke, the sound of a car came from outside. Loraine entered the room and reported, "Mr. Myers is back."

A cheerful smile on her face, Margaret rose to her feet. "Why did you come back so early today?"

Edric strode into the living room when she asked the question, with John following closely behind. Seeing Marie in the living room, Edric frowned slightly.

He used to have a good impression of Marie, but now he felt she was like an accomplice when he saw her. Although he did not like her, he would not show it all over his face. He nodded politely to Marie and entered the study room.

After closing the door, Edric switched on the computer and clicked on the surveillance records. The Myers family had a few cameras outside and inside the villa. As long as he could open the surveillance records from that night, he could get a clear understanding of what had actually happened.

Edric adjusted timestamp of the records to the date of that night. Soon, the scene from that night unfolded before him. His car had arrived at the Myers family villa around eleven o'clock. When the car door had opened, Rowane had gotten out of the car first, followed by Lily. Then, together, they carried him out of the car.

At that moment, both Margaret and Marie opened the door to welcome them. They'd helped to carry him into the living room, and then upstairs.

There was no surveillance camera in the bedroom, so he could not see what had gone down inside. However, he could clearly see that the few people who'd helped him into the room leave the room one by one. Rowane had gone downstairs, leaving the Myers family home afterwards.

However, Lily had not left. After Rowane was nowhere to be seen, she went back to his bedroom. Edric's face darkened when he saw Lily entering his bedroom again.

John's expression changed as well. The two exchanged glances and continued to stare at the monitor. Marie and Margaret was chatting in the living room. The surveillance cameras had only captured the scene without recording the sound, so they failed to pick up what they had been talking about.

Edric could feel his heart thumping vigorously, hoping that Lily had returned to his bedroom because she had dropped her things inside.

However, that thought was undoubtedly a bit of a stretch. The clock ticked by, but Lily had been in his room for about an hour before she left.

Then, Marie and Margaret both got up and greeted her. No one knew what they were saying to Lily. Finally, Lily and Marie bid their farewells and left the Myers family home.

Why had Lily stayed in his bedroom for more than an hour? What had happened in the past hour?

"Could it be-" He cut off his thoughts. For the life of him, Edric couldn't imagine that he had had intercourse with Lily in that one hour. He had been unconscious at that time. How could an unconscious person manage to do that?

One of the possibilities was that Lily had offered herself to him, but such a notion disgusted Edric. How unimaginable would that be, for a kind, demure lady like Lily to take advantage of him.

What happened on this day had completely subverted his principles. Rowane, whom he had helped fund her studies, turned out to be an ingrate. Lily, who had pretended to be an elegant and gentle lady, was a fake goody-two-shoes. Margaret had aided the evil deeds and put her self-interest above her own son. Not to forget, Marie was an accomplice. They were all villains.

Having been in the business world for so many years, he had operated under circumspect. However, he had never thought that such a day would come when such a thing had happened within his family's social circle.

Edric felt sick to his stomach when he realized that he might have slept with Lily under their schemes. A strong wave of humiliation and fury threatened to break through Edric as John watched his face darken bit by bit.

"Mr. Myers, things might not be as bad as they appeared." John tried to persuade him. "You were blacked out at that time. It is a bit too unbelievable that an unconscious man would do that kind of thing." Edric didn't say anything. If they all had plotted against him, it would be impossible for them to let him go unscathed. He was uncertain about what had happened, but he would be in muddy waters for long. The mystery would be unraveled eventually. It was only a matter of time.

Lily wouldn't have been able to do anything in his room all by herself. Edric forced himself to ponder this question deeply. Had he been stimulated into sleeping with Lily while he was unconscious? Did Lily stea his sperm and went to perform a body checkup for an in-vitro fertilization procedure in order to impregnate herself?

Why would she want to be willingly pregnant with his children? Had her parents forced her to do it to write off the debt? That was an excuse in the past. What about the present?

No one had forced her that time. It had been clear to Lily that he would never leave Irene, and she had been keenly aware of his fragile relationship with Irene. They would not be able to weather any form of hurdles, yet she had still done such shameful things. What was her intention?

Lily was not as gentle and kind as she had appeared to be. That was but a front.

Judging from what had happened in the past and present, what Lily had told him before had to be false. She had just made up a story to deceive him.

Her exceptional pretense had driven him into believing her words. Slamming the table out of anger, Edric realized that he was such a joke for being fooled by a woman. How despicable!

He would not let this matter slide. He would definitely show them that the consequences of framing him were terrible!

In the evening, after Kinsey got off work and returned home, Eden ran over and grabbed her hand. He said to her, "Aunt Kinsey, that big liar came again today. I ignored him and threw away all the things he brought."

"Good job!" Kinsey gave Eden a thumbs-up. "If he comes again in the future, you'll pour water on his head. He'll learn to surrender by then."

"What does it mean to surrender?" Eden asked.

"It meant that he wouldn't dare to come next time," Kinsey explained.

"Okay, if he dares to come tomorrow, I will splash water on him."

Upon hearing this, Irene frowned and said, "Kinsey, don't humor him."

"I'm not humoring him. That man was shameless enough to abandon you and the kid. How dare he come back to acknowledge Eden as his son now? I'm teaching Eden to understand the truth and to prevent that man from fighting with you over his custody in the future."

"He wouldn't be that brazen."

"It's hard to say for sure. Edric's mother is not an easy person to deal with. With her plotting behind your back, anything could happen. It'll do us well to be on guard."

Irene smiled helplessly. As Kinsey was thinking for her sake, she could not blame her for that. However, when she had seen Edric's fallen face that day, she found it somewhat unbearable in her heart. To be honest, Edric was not that much of a detestable man.

Moreover, Edric was Eden's biological father, no matter the circumstances. She could not let Eden live his life shadowed in hatred. Edric was not a heinous man. During this period, she could see that he was sincerely trying his best.

She could not just watch Eden hate him because that was unfair to him. While she put Eden to sleep that night, Irene mentioned to him about Edric, "Don't be rude to Dad like that in the future." "Mom, he is a big liar and a bad guy. I don't want such a person to be my dad," Eden insisted.
