Revenge Against My Ex-husband -
Chapter 216 Fallen In Love With Him
The thing in Rowane's hands was actually Nathan's watch. After she had picked it the night before, she cleaned it thoroughly before putting it beside her pillow while she slept.
While doing so, Rowane kept telling herself it was because she was worried that Nathan's watch would go missing and she meant nothing more. However, when she had woken up earlier that day, she had been so frightened that she had broken out in cold sweat due to a dream.
In the dream, Nathan had walked towards her with a smile. He took her hand and asked her in his gentle voice if she would like to replace Irene as his girlfriend. When she agreed without much hesitation, Nathan's expression changed abruptly. He pushed her aside, pointed at her and scolded her that she was not worthy of being his woman, and that she looked too highly of herself.
It all became clear to her. Deep inside her heart, she had fallen for Nathan, thus she craved for his attention. So, she quickly realized that she was letting her imagination run wild as she remembered Nathan's fiancée. Even if the man was not engaged, she was not worthy of him at all, since she did not even have a clear family background.
When she saw Nathan a few minutes ago, she was immediately reminded of her childish behavior on the day prior. She felt both ashamed and insecure and was afraid that Nathan would think badly of her. When he invited her to go pick a dress for his fiancée, she was devastated. The string of complicated emotions made her extremely upset.
With the cold metal of Nathan's watch pressed against her chest, Rowane's heart trembled a little. She furiously shook her head, "Jodie, stop! Nathan is just your savior! He's so nice to treat you like he does now, so how could you think of him like that? What you should do is wish him all the best with his fiancée, and that he would forever be happy and grow old with her.
After taking a few deep breaths, she cast away the sadness on her face and quickly changed her clothes. She put on a smile before going out.
When she was out of the villa, Nathan explained to Rowane that his car had broken down and it had been sent for repairs. He did not want to have another car from his home as it would be very troublesome and decided to take a taxi instead.
The taxi carrying them dropped them off at the mall. Nathan brought Rowane to the women's clothing department, pointed at the colorful clothes around them and said, "You're also a woman, so I'm sure your taste will be better than mine. Help me pick a few that you think are nice. I'll pick again from there."
Although Rowane came from an average family, she had been showered with all kinds of clothes during her relationship with Edric, setting her standards to a new level. She now knew what she should wear to accentuate her beauty.
Although she had now lost her memory, her taste was not affected. After just one turn around the department, her eyes had already caught four dresses that would suit her. However, Nathan wanted to buy a dress for his fiancée, not her. Would Nathan be disappointed if his fiancée did not like her choices?
Thinking of that, Rowane asked him, "Nathan, do you have a photo of your fiancée on your phone? If you do, could you let me take a look at her? I want to see how she looks so that I can choose a chest that I will suit her aura."
"You're right. I think I have a recent picture of her. Here, have a look, "Truth be told, when Nathan had first started dating Irene, he had always accompanied to buy her dresses. He knew all of her measurements and styles that she liked. The reason he was at the mall with Rowane at the moment was just an excuse for him to bring Rowane to the White Mansion for dinner. Of course, he did want to buy a dress for Irene and since Rowane wanted to look at a picture of her, he would show it to her.
Nathan showed Rowane a picture of Irene and Eden. Rowane took the phone over and looked at it carefully. Upon seeing that Irene shared an uncanny resemblance to her own face, her heart skipped a beat, just like that the previous day when she first heard her name. An awfully familiar feeling surfaced.
How could it be? Why was she having weird feelings upon seeing Nathan's fiancée? Was it because both she and Nathan's fiancée fell for the same person or simply because they looked the same? Was that the reason why she was sensitive towards Irene?
"Jodie, are you okay?" Nathan was worried when he saw Rowane's sudden change of expression. She had become absent-minded all of a sudden.
Rowane regained her composure and forced a smile, "Yes, I'm fine. I was just taken aback by how Irene and I look so similar."
"Yes, I've told you that before."
"Who is this little boy?" Rowane pointed at Eden.
"That's Irene's son."
Rowane was shocked as she did not expect Irene to already have a son. She wanted to ask Nathan why he would fall for a woman who was already a mother, but she held back. She knew that it would make her sound rude.
Naturally, Nathan would not explain anything by himself. He took back his phone and said, "Can you choose the clothes now?"
"Yes," Rowane smiled and walked around the department again. In the end, she selected a few new sets of clothing.
From the photo she saw just now, Irene looked like a mature woman with a strong personality, a far cry from her own. The clothes she had chosen earlier suddenly looked childish to her and she thought they would not be suitable for Irene. She decided to reconsider her choices.
Nathan eyed the clothes and a grin spread on his face, "Jodie, you've got good taste! Irene loves these kinds of designs. Why don't you try this on yourself?" He took one dress from the stack of clothes and gave it to Rowane.
Rowane took the dress over and went into the changing room. After coming out, she saw Nathan's look of surprise. Her heart skipped a beat and her face flushed.
"Jodie, you look so gorgeous in this dress!" It was Nathan's first time seeing Rowane in a dress ever since knowing her. The clothes that she usually wore were the ones bought by Nathan's secretary and they were more for providing comfort rather than displaying the person's beauty. The faint purple dress that Rowane was wearing completely accentuated her beauty, making her look even more like Irene.
Rowane stood in front of the fitting room mirror and looked at her beautiful reflection. When she heard Nathan's praise, her heart filled with happiness. Just as she was feeling self-indulgent, she heard Nathan say from behind her, "Jodie, try this other dress."
Rowane turned around and saw a light yellow knee-length skirt in Nathan's hand. The style of the dress was a little bit more youthful than the one she wore, which suited her age and style.
The dress had not been selected by Rowane. It should have been selected by Nathan. She took the dress over and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Nathan, I don't think this dress suits Irene. It would be more suitable for me to wear."
Nathan laughed and said, "Try it on first!"
Rowane felt helpless and could only bring the dress into the fitting room. After she changed into the dress, Nathan looked at her and sang praises again. Rowane also felt that it was nice. The dress seemed to be tailored for her and fit her perfectly. It also fully showed her pure and delicate aura.
"This dress suits you very well. You don't have to take it off. Just wear it like this," Rowane was going to change out of the dress in the fitting room, but was stopped by Nathan. Then, he said to the shopping attendant, "Excuse me, I'll buy these two sets of clothes. Please pack the purple dress up."
Rowane was well-versed in English. Upon hearing Nathan's words, she immediately reacted. Nathan was planning to give her the yellow dress, while the purple on was for Irene.
She was surprised. She had not expected Nathan to give her such expensive clothing. Although she did not look at the price, she had heard of the brand of the clothing before. She knew that it was expensive. Any piece of clothing chosen from the stack would already cost tens of thousands dollars, including the dress.
She asked tentatively, "Nathan, why can't I change out of it first? Isn't it a gift for Irene?"
Nathan laughed and said, "That one is for her. This dress is for you."
"No, no, I can't take it," Rowane hurriedly waved her hand and turned to go into the fitting room.
Nathan stood in front of her and said, "Jodie, listen to me. I haven't paid you anything when you took care of those roses. Please accept this dress as reimbursement, okay?"
Rowane said, "Nathan, you've saved my life and even given me a place to stay. You've also given me so much allowance before this. I haven't thanked you yet, so how can I ask for a salary? Besides watering flowers, watering, and loosening the soil, I haven't done anything else. How can I be qualified to receive a salary?"
Nathan advised, "Alright, let's not talk about salary. The clothes that Karen has bought for you are all casual clothes. As a girl, it's not right for you to not have a proper formal dress. Just accept this dress, and you can wear it to any occasion in the future."
Rowane's heart was moved by his words. She had not expected Nathan to be so thoughtful and even thought of that for her. However, she already owed him too much, so how could she accept his kindness? Her nose twitched and she said with tears in her eyes, "Nathan, thank you. I really can't let you spend money anymore. After all, I have nowhere else to go. I don't have a chance to wear this dress at all. I'd better change out of it." After that, she walked past Nathan and went into the fitting room.
Nathan did not expect Rowane to be so stubborn. He had never thought of buying clothes for Rowane. He had just wanted to buy a few sets of clothes for Irene and Eden. Then, he would use the excuse of having bought too many clothes to ask Rowane to help send them to the White Mansion and then ask her to stay for dinner. However, he saw Rowane change into those clothes and become so beautiful and alluring. He could not help but feel a jolt in his heart. He wanted to buy another one for her but got rejected by her instead.
Nathan had always liked Rowane's gentle personality. Seeing that she wasn't interested in vanity and wasn't willing to take advantage of him, Nathan's impression of her grew even better. He decided to buy the dress and replace a chance to give it to her in the future.
