Ximena seemed to burst, her face flushed, the veins in her neck pronounced, her cheeks puffed out, throwing the bouquet at the chubby man, like a lioness she let out a growl:

'get out uncle, I don't want to see you and I don't believe in your lies, you're on fire because of me taking you out of the company.

The old man put his right hand on his heart and with the other he extended his hand in a stop sign, to continue with his explanation,

-Please, I know you hate me and you are right. I am a despicable being, but not as despicable as this family of gangsters. It's one thing for you to leave me practically on the street, I put up with it because I deserve it, but I can't keep putting up with you being with the people who murdered my only brother and my dear sister-in-law.

Get out, or I'll kick you out! -Angelo loosened his tie and went down the stairs of the altar, as he took off his jacket to try not to let the heat of his body make him explode, ready his fists to charge against this saboteur. And as he gathered his momentum to land a hook, he caught sight of his grandfather Joseph in the chair in front of him, who, with his oxygen mask on, was crying and shouting something like, "You're a ruffian, you're a ruffian, you're a ruffian, you're a ruffian, you're a ruffian!

-you are a ruffian, you are breaking a pact, a gentleman's pact, a dying promise.

Angelo stopped his fury to inquire into that assessment,

What do you mean, grandfather?

The uncle turned to Joseph, shouting at him and waving his hands like one of those air dummies they put at the entrances of supermarkets,

-Shame on you, you're getting too old to go on with these stupid secrets, react, you're not eternal, you're already one step away from the grave, you should try to straighten out some of your evil deeds, in case you don't suddenly get sent to the deepest level of hell. Grandfather got up from his chair, threw the cane at him and between coughs, very agitated and with a purple face threatened him: -convicted traitor, I swear I will kill you ten times over.

The personal doctors gave him an injection to calm him down and put an oxygen mask on him. To which the uncle replied in another angry way:

-you see old man, you are already dead in life, just like your soul, you are only anchored by those servants of yours. As for their threats, I don't care about that, I'm practically dead too," he took a piece of paper from his pocket with a hospital letterhead, showing it to Joseph, swinging his arm from where Joseph stood to where Ximena could see it, and continued, "I've been diagnosed with colon cancer for five months now. It's been hell, I couldn't imagine anything more painful and depressing. I swear I have repented of every single one of my sins. Even more so since I was declared terminal a few days ago.

Ximena tore off her veil, and lifting her long dress under the marble steps. She approached her uncle despite the repudiation she felt for him. Images came to her mind of when this animal used to undress her and her little sister, when they were little girls in his care, after the death of their parents, of how he touched them all over, and filled them with his dirty saliva. She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt to interrogate him, -tell me what this pact is, tell me everything?

-Wait Ximena, don't listen to him, surely these are tricks of this guy to get the company back, please, you know he's a bad person. -Angelo tried to grab her with his right hand, while with his left he grabbed a small pistol that he kept in one of his trouser pockets, it was cold, it was heavy, it would soon warm up and he would be relieved when he unloaded it on this impertinent man.

-Angelo, don't be so shameless, confess all the dirty tricks you've done to her, I'm sure there are many, I can't think how many tricks you've had to do so that she doesn't replace out. -The fat man looked at him with eyes that looked as if they were daggers pointing at him.

-Now that you've invented, you should leave as soon as possible, I promise you..." Angelo was interrupted by the fat man who, vociferating, threw a punch at him:

What do you promise me, will you kill me, I'm already dead, will you kill my whole family, they already did, will they torture me, let me tell you, they torture me every day in the oncology unit, please uncle!

Please uncle, tell me what they are hiding from me? -Ximena looked more and more contracted, her sister Emily, her adoptive parents and her friend Mia got up from the chair and tried to hug her to comfort her, but when she felt them close she pushed them away, repeating the question to the fat man, with a powerful shriek.

Her uncle let out a whimper, tears rolled down his cheeks, and after a dramatic pause she sobbed:

-it's that you've been cheated, not just by your parents. For everything, these gentlemen are only surrounded by death, I bet you thought that everything bad that has happened to you was because of the people who want to take away your company, well you are partly right, because these filthy Italians, pasta eaters, have wanted that business for a long time, to launder their money.

Angelo pulled out his gun, pointing it at the obese old man to shut him up, but only succeeded in getting him to grab his hands, leading him to place the barrel against his forehead, exclaiming, "Do it! -Do it, kill me like you did with every one of Ximena's suitors, like you did with the employees of that restaurant where they were badly treated, the one you set on fire, I don't care if I die here on a hospital gurney.

Ximena pulled her hand away from his, getting between them, she knelt down to beg, -please, uncle, tell me everything.

The old man also knelt down in front of her, crying, apologised, stood up pointing to Joseph, took a breath to speak as loudly as possible, he wanted even those sitting in the back to hear him,

-It's the meanest and most dastardly act I've ever witnessed, Joseph, I murdered your parents, I know that, because that was the plan so that I would be in charge of the company and I would have to sell it to them. What we didn't count on was my brother's will, which left everything to his daughters when they married an important man from a good family, because they were classist and homophobic. That's why that clause, that it had to be this whippersnapper, was something we were able to add at the last minute, it's something that is not written down, we just had the lawyer say it. Because of that plan the company would be left to them anyway. They never lose, that's why they are so powerful, although what these cheaters never considered was that this whippersnapper would fall in love for real. It seems to have backfired on them.

-Uncle, you're the worst, you confess that out of greed you participated in a plot to murder your brother and I bet all this time you knew that I was with them and until now you're able to confess it. Just at this moment. -Ximena slapped him so hard that his hand was on fire. Angelo reached out to try to hug her, begging her, "Love, please, it's all a lie, don't believe a word of it, she's just trying to confuse you.

The old woman took out of her bag a green and red flag with a rifle, Ximena paled, it was what those who murdered her parents carried, underneath it was the symbol of Angelo's family.

Ximena felt her forehead expand, everything began to spin, she took a clumsy step backwards, tripping over the steps, falling backwards, although her adoptive parents held her up, it seemed to her that she had crossed the marble floor, descending through an infinite dark tunnel that led her to a well of tears.
