In the heart of Devonport, nestled within the sprawling Costello estate...

Bang!

Colby stormed through the study doors, startling Lennon into an irate glare. "Boy! Are you trying to give your old man's old man a heart attack?!"

Sophie elbowed Colby, who had startled her as well. Just then, Jenna darted over to Lennon, trying to sweet-talk him. "Grandpa! It's been ages since I last visited!"

"Don't give me that; you never come by unless you want something!"

Lennon eyed the four young intruders. "What brings you rascals here this time?"

Colby laid three gemstones on the table in front of him.

"Trying to bribe me? Or do you need an appraisal?"

At first, Lennon barely glanced at the stones. But when he noticed Colby's serious expression, he adjusted his reading glasses for a closer look. The moment he did, his face paled. He picked up one of the rings, examining it closely. "Where did you get this?"

"It's a long story. One was bought at an auction by Colby, another was swindled from old Mrs. Burke, and the last was a wedding gift from the Aldridge family," Jenna explained.

Lennon frowned. "From the Burke family? How on earth did they get one of these?"

Sophie shook her head. "No idea, but it must've been one of Bea's prized jewels."

Lennon explained, "This ring, back in the day, belonged to the Russell, Costello, Tredgold, and Aldridge families. They symbolized the alliances between our families. These were royal jewels, crafted by a renowned artisan from a single exquisite gemstone. Only four exist in the entire world."

Sophie furrowed her brow. "So, these rings are unique to our four families? Then how did the Burke family get one?"

Lennon sighed. "I only heard about

these four rings from my father. I

never saw them together. I know

of

our family's heirloom ring, but sadly, it's been lost."

"The Costello gem is missing, and only the Aldridge gem remains,"

Adler chimed in. "So, it's possible the Burke gem was originally the

Russett's, or maybe even the Costello's. It could even be ours!"

Jenna rolled her eyes. "That ring is definitely not from the Costello family! Wouldn't Colby recognize a ring his own mother wore? Besides, your parents are still around. Just ask them if the gem hasn't been passed down yet."

"Right, I'll call them now."

Adler whipped out his phone and dialed home. The call connected quickly. "Mom, do we have any heirloom rings with a sapphire blue gem that Dad gave you?" "What? None?" Adler frowned. "Really? Could you check again? Or maybe ask Dad if he's given the ring to someone else, like a mistress or something."

"You little brat! Are you looking for trouble?!"

May's shout echoed through the phone.

Adler quickly hung up, patting his chest in relief. "No gem in our house! Case closed!"

...

...

Jenna and Sophie exchanged speechless looks.

Only Adler would dare to ask his mom if his dad had given away the family ring to a mistress.
