Two weeks earlier...

After running for twenty more minutes, I and my father finally managed to get out of the forest. To my surprise, Alpha Adolph Wolfgang and Randolph had been waiting for us there. They were standing in front of a car that was parked at the side of the road. Their eyes glimmered when they saw us approaching them.

“Alpha Wolfgang.” My father bowed his head in respect.

The Alpha only responded with a nod.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Randolph put his arms around me. “I’m glad you’re alright, Rosanne. You know, I missed you so much.”

Hugging him back, I said, “Thanks, Randolph. I missed you too.”

“Alpha, how’s the battle?” my father inquired.

I and Randolph soon pulled away from our embrace and listened to the beta and alpha’s conversation.

“I have ordered all of our wolves to retreat,” Alpha Wolfgang replied.

My father nodded his head in understanding before he asked again, “Did we lose anyone?”

At my father’s question, my heart sank. All this time, I always expected my father to come and rescue me, but I never thought that it might cost other people’s lives.

I stared at Alpha Adolph Wolfgang, waiting for his answer with some apprehension. I hoped he didn’t give us bad news. I would never forgive myself if there were people being killed because of me.

“Fortunately, none of our wolves got killed,” Alpha Wolfgang answered.

Hearing his reply, I breathed a sigh of relief, and my father did the same thing too.

“Did we get any wolves that are hurt?” Dad posed another question.

I held my breath while waiting for the alpha’s response.

“Fifteen wolves were injured, but they probably close to being healed by now,” he explained.

I let out the breath that I had been holding after I heard his answer. I felt bad knowing those people got hurt when they tried to save me. But at least, since they were werewolves, it didn’t take a long time for their wounds to heal. And I was very grateful for that.

“Um guys, I think we should get going now before the vampires catch up with us,” Randolph suggested.

Our heads nodded in agreement.

Randolph climbed into the driver’s seat. Next, Alpha Wolfgang got into the passenger’s seat. And at last, I and my father hopped into the back seat.

“Ready?” Randolph asked as he fastened his seat belt.

“Yes,” the three of us answered in unison.

Randolph started the engine and we finally set off.

“Where are we going, Dad?” I asked out of curiosity.

“We’re going home, Rosanne,” my father beamed.

Home: When I heard that word, my heart leapt. I had always wanted a real home with parents and siblings. At long last, I had a place I could call as my own home. Unfortunately, there were only me and my dad. Meanwhile, my mom couldn’t be there with us. She’s gone long before I had a chance of meeting her.

But that’s okay. No matter what happened, I was happy to finally be able to reunite with my father again. And the most important thing was, from this day forth, no one could tear us apart anymore. No one.
